Chapter 1559: Anger Rise

The worms that emerged from the wounds Erend had created made him grit his teeth as his anger rose even further. He stared at them with a burning gaze while they crawled across the giant worm’s body and surrounded him.

The new worms looked smaller than their main body, but each one still had roughly the size of an adult human body.

They also possessed three mouths and numerous human-like arms that moved wildly around their bodies.

Erend quickly understood what he was dealing with. These worms seemed to function like some kind of immune defense for the main body. His attacks had wounded the creature, and now it had produced these smaller creatures to remove what it considered a foreign threat.

In the eyes of the giant worm, Erend was nothing more than a virus that needed to be eliminated.

Erend charged at them first and immediately drove his fist into one of the smaller worms.

The punch launched the creature backward across the giant worm’s body, but it did not kill it.

The worm crashed against the dark hide and rolled several times before stopping. Numerous wounds covered its body, but it still moved.

Erend cursed under his breath. There was only one choice left: He had to kill these worms before he could return his attention to the main body.

This was becoming far more troublesome than he had expected.

The smaller worms were strong enough to survive his attacks, and their numbers were not small either. If they kept emerging from the main body’s wounds, Erend could spend all his remaining strength fighting them without ever getting another chance to attack the creature itself.

The worms suddenly rushed toward him.

Three of them led the attack from the front while the others followed behind.

Their numerous human-like arms flailed wildly as they dragged and pushed their bodies across the worm’s back.

Their three mouths opened simultaneously, revealing rows of jagged teeth before they released the same shrill cries as their larger counterpart.

The high-pitched sounds echoed across the black sand and dark sky, and sounded almost like taunts to Erend.

Erend gritted his teeth into a snarl without even realizing he had made the expression.

The creatures collided with him on top of the giant worm’s body.

Erend struck first. He drove his fist into the worm in the middle and sent it flying backward before immediately launching several fireballs toward the two beside it.

The explosions forced them away and covered their bodies in flames.

Erend did not give them time to recover. He rushed toward the worm on his right and grabbed one of its human-like hands.

The creature struggled violently.

Erend tightened his grip and ripped the arm from its body.

Brown blood sprayed across his face.

The worm opened one of its mouths and screamed directly at him.

Erend shoved his flaming fist into the open maw before it could bite him. He forced the flames deeper into its throat and then released the Magic.

The fire exploded inside its body.

Flames raced through its flesh from the inside while the creature writhed violently around Erend.

Smoke poured from its three mouths as its body convulsed.

Erend had performed the entire attack in barely two seconds. He grabbed the burning creature and threw it away.

Then he immediately turned toward another worm on his left.

Erend attacked it in almost the same manner. He closed the distance, tore through its flesh with his physical strength, and forced fire Magic attack into its open mouth.

The flames spread through its body and burned it from the inside before he threw the dying creature aside, just like the worm before.

He continued. One worm after another rushed toward him, and Erend met each one of them with brutal efficiency.

He struck them, tore away their limbs, burned through their bodies, and used their own open mouths as entry points for his fire.

He refused to let them overwhelm him. Every time another worm approached, he turned toward it and attacked before it could properly react.

Under him, the giant worm continued moving and writhing beneath the battle. Its enormous body twisted across the black sand and its three mouths occasionally released another shrill cry.

Erend barely registered those sounds anymore. He treated them as nothing more than background noise while he focused entirely on destroying the smaller worms.

The battle seemed to continue for an eternity.

Eventually, Erend looked around and realized that no more worms remained around him.

He had killed them all.

His breathing came heavily as he stood on the giant worm’s back. Blood covered parts of his body, and brown blood from the smaller creatures stained his face and arms.

His muscles trembled from exhaustion and his remaining Magic reserves continued to dwindle.

But then Erend looked down and his expression changed.

The wounds he had created earlier on the giant worm’s body were almost completely closed.

The deep cracks and burns that were covering the giant worm’s body were mostly gone.

Fresh flesh had grown across the damaged areas and sealed the openings.

The healing process did not restore the creature perfectly, but it did repair enough of the damage to make Erend’s previous efforts feel almost meaningless.

Erend stared at the healed wounds in disbelief. Then anger exploded inside him.

"HAAAAAA!!!!"

His scream could be heard across the battlefield as he widened his eyes in fury. The giant worm responded with a low groan that almost sounded as though it were mocking him.

The sound only made Erend’s anger burn hotter.

The giant worm suddenly shook its enormous body.

Erend lost his footing.

The violent movement threw him from its back and sent him crashing onto the black sand.

He rolled across the ground before quickly pushing himself up.

The worm turned toward him.

All three segmented mouths opened wide.

Erend saw the rows of jagged teeth rushing toward him.

He jumped at the last possible moment.

The creature’s enormous mouths slammed down exactly where Erend had stood only a second earlier.
