Chapter 430: 430:World Tree.

Atheline stared in shock.

"How did we miss that?"

The alchemist looked uncomfortable.

"Because it isn’t ordinary corruption."

"What is it?"

"We thought it was a stabilizer."

His expression hardened.

The alchemist continued.

"It binds to the user’s Aether channels. That’s partly why the potion provides such a dramatic increase. It forces the body to draw more Aether than it naturally should."

Lilith stood beside Atheline.

"And afterward?"

"Most traces disappear." The alchemist hesitated. "A residue remains."

Atheline felt something unpleasant settle in his stomach.

"Where?"

"The core."

Silence filled the room. The potion hadn’t merely strengthened people, it marked them, changed them and connected them to something.

He remembered the Death Core.

"Lesser vessels."

Lilith looked toward him.

He repeated Klaith’s words.

"Too much contaminated by lesser vessels." Understanding appeared in her eyes. "The potion users."

"Some of them."

He nodded.

"Maybe not all."

People exposed to that corruption became vessels, weak and imperfect ones, but vessels nonetheless. Their altered cores could accumulate traces of whatever leaked through the seal.

If they died... he closed his eyes.

Their cores could be harvested, refined and concentrated in lesser death Cores.

The noble elder was summoned immediately. So were every surviving official connected to the original potion investigation.

Records were reopened, names were compared and deaths were examined. People who’d used the forbidden enhancement potions had disproportionately disappeared.

Some died in combat, some vanished, some were supposedly killed by corrupted creatures while others simply stopped appearing in records.

The same pattern existed beyond the Dark Elven Kingdom. Different substances, names and methods.

A strengthening powder in one Human kingdom. A combat stimulant among Beastmen mercenaries. An illegal blood refinement method on the Demonic Continent.

All had appeared during roughly the same broad period. All produced unusual strength. All carried minute traces of corruption.

Atheline stared at the reports covering the council table.

Lilith stood beside him.

"It was one conspiracy wearing different faces."

Atheline nodded.

A cult, distributed across races and continents, perhaps its members didn’t even all understand what they served. Some believed they were pursuing strength, political power, resurrection, immortality and revenge.

But at the top, someone knew.

The missing villages suddenly became far more disturbing.

Atheline returned to the maps. Villages weren’t disappearing randomly, most were located near old Aether veins; ancient ones. Veins that once connected to the original World Tree.

The continents had separated but the roots hadn’t entirely vanished. Their remnants still existed beneath the world.

"They’re attacking the anchors."

Atheline pointed toward each disappearance. Lilith’s face became colder with every location.

"One."

Another.

"Two."

Another.

"Three."

Old root pathways and ancient branches of the seal. The cult wasn’t merely feeding Fire, it was dismantling his prison.

The Blood Ocean was another anchor. Perhaps the largest remaining concentration of unstable power produced during the Cataclysm.

Everyone had treated it as a contaminated sea but it wasn’t, not completely.

It was pressure.

Atheline finally understood. Divine power had been leaking through the seal for thousands of years, tiny amounts.

Normally the World Tree’s remaining seal structure filtered and suppressed it. But divine power from an incomplete god wasn’t compatible with the mortal world.

When it entered Eldernor, it distorted whatever it touched.

Atheline sat back slowly.

"The corruption isn’t his weapon."

Lilith looked at him.

"It’s him."

The corruption spreading across the world wasn’t a disease created thousands of years ago. It was Divine Authority leaking from an imprisoned Unnamed God.

The implications were staggering.

It explained why ordinary purification never permanently solved the problem.

Why corruption kept returning. Why the Blood Ocean never healed. Why new variants appeared. Why creatures could mutate differently despite exposure to the same phenomenon.

They were being touched by something above mortal Laws, something unfinished and unstable.n And now the seal was failing quickly enough that Fire’s consciousness could begin crossing with his power.

That was why the corrupted had started speaking.

Atheline felt a chill.

His return.

They weren’t worshipping something that might arrive one day, they were hearing him. The seal had weakened enough for Fire to speak through the corruption.

Lilith came to the same conclusion.

"He can reach them."

"Yes."

"Can he control them?"

Atheline thought about the coordinated attacks.

"Some."

"Eventually all?"

He didn’t answer cause he didn’t need to.

The final piece was the Supreme Sovereign. They found it inside a document Klaith had attempted to destroy.

Only fragments remained but it was enough.

The Supreme Sovereign had known he couldn’t kill Fire so he’d used himself; his body, soul, and Authority. The Supreme Sovereign became the final lock.

Atheline stared at the translated passage for a long time.

The Supreme Sovereign hadn’t died from the spear wound, not immediately.

He’d already been dying since Fire’s attack had pierced his heart with Death’s power. The wound couldn’t be healed, even the Sovereign of Life had failed.

But instead of spending his remaining strength trying to survive, the Supreme Sovereign used what remained of his existence to complete the seal.

His Divine Authority became the final barrier between Fire and the mortal world.

Atheline remembered the ancient orb and everything that had accompanied him.

His breath stopped.

Lilith noticed immediately.

"Atheline?"

He didn’t respond, his hand moved toward his chest. The mysterious fragment pulsed, hard.

He stumbled but she caught him. Wind erupted throughout the room, water formed from the moisture in the air, frost spread across the table causing several candles to flare while lightning crackled across the walls.

The floor trembled afterwards.

"Atheline!"

"I’m fine."

He wasn’t.

Something was opening. For a moment, he saw white, then a tree. It was not the current World Tree, but the original one burning. Roots stretched across a broken world and chains formed from light.

A man stood before an opening in reality. White hair moved behind him, blood covering g his chest with a broken spear protruding from his body.

Beyond him... an enormous Fire, humanoid only in the vaguest sense. It was half flesh, half flame like something struggling to become divine.

Atheline couldn’t see its face but he heard it.

"You cannot hold me forever."

The white-haired man raised his bow.

"No." His voice was exhausted. "But I don’t need forever."

The world shook.

"You sacrifice everything for mortals who will forget your name."

The Supreme Sovereign smiled.

"Then they won’t have to mourn me."

Atheline’s chest tightened.

The Supreme Sovereign drew his final arrow.

It wasn’t made from Aether but from him. It contained his authority, soul and existence. Everything collapsed into one arrow before he released.

Light filled the world. The destroyed World Tree’s roots ignited with countless Laws. Chains crossed the opening and tangled with fire who screamed.

The Supreme Sovereign began disappearing, piece by piece. His body became light, and his bow fell.

The vision broke.

Atheline opened his eyes. He was on one knee with Lilith holding his shoulder. Everyone in the archive stared in both shock and worry.

Atheline breathed slowly.

"What did you see?"

She asked.

He looked at her.

"The seal being completed."

Silence filled the room as tension slowly started to rise..

"And?"

He looked down at his chest.

"The Supreme Sovereign sacrificed himself."

Her grip tightened slightly.

Atheline understood now why the orb had reacted to him. Perhaps why the Unaspected Ruin had recognized him. Perhaps why the mysterious fragment had waited while he comprehended six Laws.

He still didn’t know everything but he knew what the fragment likely was.

A remnant.

It was probably not of the Supreme Sovereign himself, a soul, or reincarnation. It was something left behind when the Supreme Sovereign converted his existence into the seal.

A fragment of Authority.

Atheline slowly stood, then another realization struck him.

"The current World Tree."

Lilith looked toward him.

"What about it?"

His face changed.

There was only one World Tree in the modern world. The High Elves believed it had grown after the Cataclysm.

A successor, amiracle, perhaps that was true.

But if the original World Tree had become part of the seal... And the current tree had grown from the same root network...

Lilith understood.

"It’s connected."

Atheline immediately turned.

"Contact the High Elven King."

Zelpher moved.

"Now."

Within minutes, the communication formation activated.

The High Elven King’s image appeared.

Atheline didn’t bother with greetings.

"Evacuate everyone who isn’t necessary from around the World Tree, the message I sent, it’s worse than just the Sovereign if fire coming to life... just believe me I’ll exolain everything full."

He frowned.

"What happened?"

"The corruption inside the tree isn’t an infection." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

Silence answered him.

Atheline continued.

"The World Tree is part of an ancient seal."

The High King’s expression changed.

"What?"

"The original World Tree became the anchor imprisoning the Sovereign of Fire after the Cataclysm." Atheline spoke quickly. "The current tree is almost certainly connected to the same root system. If corruption is appearing inside it, the seal isn’t being contaminated from outside."

He paused.

"It’s breaking from the other side."

The King went pale.

Atheline remembered the thousands of corrupted creatures facing the World Tree.

"They aren’t attacking the tree."

She looked at him with worry as his realization became worse.

"They’re waiting."

"For what?"

"The seal to open."
