I Return From Hell
Chapter 11 - 9: Chaos
Chapter 11: Chapter 9: Chaos
Shortly after she snuck into the villa, the mist descended. The clock struck midnight, the phone signal abruptly cut out, and the city’s second Mist Event began.
Immediately, Xia Yu sensed her consciousness being interfered with.
’It really is the Ghost Clan.’
Xia Yu had long expected this and was silently chanting a Nameless Mantra: ’People are separated by paper, ghosts by a mountain. A thousand evils cannot break through, ten thousand evils cannot force their way in...’
Three months after the Apocalypse began, this Nameless Mantra was officially released. It was a self-preservation technique against the Ghost Clan, though it was of little use against powerful ghosts.
However, before the Apocalypse, powerful members of the Ghost Clan couldn’t enter the "rules of the mist" either.
These so-called "rules of the mist" were a special set of principles formed when two dimensions briefly met, overlapped, and separated. Only beings that conformed to the rules of the misty space could enter.
Through ten years of research and observation during the Apocalypse, the Human Race discovered that the "rules of the mist" before the outbreak had three common characteristics:
First, all contact between the inside and outside of the mist was completely severed. There was no way to communicate between the two.
Second, the beings that entered the mist, whether from the Human Race or other species, were generally of a low realm. This was because, before the Apocalypse, the degree of fusion between the various Different Dimension Spaces and Earth’s own space was very low, unable to support the entry of stronger beings.
Third, after the "rules of the mist" dissipated, living beings would automatically return to their respective dimensions. The dead, if not carried away by the living, would also return to their own dimensions.
As for how these so-called rules came into being, no one knew.
Xia Yu’s comprehension of these rules far surpassed that of an ordinary person. However, in her past life, she hadn’t participated in many Mist Events, so her understanding of the "rules of the mist" was also limited.
Even so, she was beyond comparison with others. Before she was reborn, she had already faintly felt that she was touching upon the true mystery of the rules.
She didn’t know what continuing to comprehend and study them would bring, but she still intended to press on.
’Every member of the Ghost Clan follows its own pattern. Only by finding it and exploiting it do I have a chance to defeat it, or at least survive until the Mist Event ends.’
’And before I find this ghost’s pattern, I must ensure that Chu Quan and the others survive as long as possible. With them helping to distract the ghost, I can live until the birth of the ’Servant Spirit Species’.’
For now, Xia Yu planned to unite with Chu Quan and the others.
Therefore...
She glanced at Li Xiaopeng, who was standing by the French doors, and walked over.
Just as she got behind him, Li Xiaopeng unexpectedly spun around, his face beaded with sweat and filled with terror.
"A ghost!"
Li Xiaopeng shrieked and turned to flee.
"Were you just hallucinating because of the ghost?"
Xia Yu asked.
"?"
Li Xiaopeng froze. He relaxed only after seeing that Xia Yu had a shadow, but he remained extremely vigilant. "You... are you really Xia Yu?"
"Didn’t you say you weren’t coming? Why are you here now?"
Xia Yu had anticipated such questions and had already prepared an excuse.
"Little Tian is doing a bit better, and I thought it would be wrong to break my promise, so I came over tonight. I just got here and saw you standing by the French doors, so I came to say hello."
After explaining, she changed the subject. "By the way, why are the lights off? Is the party over?"
"I don’t know. The lights were on just a moment ago."
Recalling his recent experience, Li Xiaopeng was still shaken. As he walked over to turn on the lights, he asked, "How did you know I was hallucinating because of a ghost?"
CLICK.
The lights didn’t turn on.
’Power outage?’
He took out his phone and turned on the camera light.
And then...
The two of them saw Zhang Chi hugging one of the living room’s square pillars, a large amount of blood flowing out from below him...
"He’s hallucinating because of the ghost, too!"
"Quick, we have to save him!"
Xia Yu’s expression hardened, and she moved forward to wake Zhang Chi.
Unfortunately, she was a step too late.
THUD.
Zhang Chi’s body suddenly went limp and fell to the floor. It twitched twice, then went completely still.
Both of his pant legs were completely soaked in blood.
Several teeth lay scattered on the ground. Blood flowed ceaselessly from his mouth, quickly staining the floor red.
The smell of blood filled the air.
"Holy shit."
Over on Li Xiaopeng’s side, he saw that Yu Xiaoxiao, who was closest to him, was holding a fruit knife and slowly stabbing it toward her own heart. He jolted in fear, lunged forward, and grabbed her wrist just in time.
Unexpectedly, Yu Xiaoxiao’s strength was astounding.
The fruit knife continued to inch closer to her heart, and in a panic, Li Xiaopeng slapped her across the face.
SMACK.
A five-fingered handprint appeared on Yu Xiaoxiao’s face. Her ferocious expression turned dazed, and as if she had just fought a great battle, her body was completely drained. She collapsed onto the sofa.
"You... What are you doing?"
She shoved Li Xiaopeng’s hand away and instinctively looked for her boyfriend, Zhang Chi, wanting him to teach this pervert Li Xiaopeng a lesson.
And then, she found him...
"AHHHH!"
Her scream sounded like it would tear the roof off.
Yu Xiaoxiao shot up from the sofa and clung to Li Xiaopeng like an octopus, refusing to let go.
As if stimulated by the scream, Huo Shuya, whose face was ashen, began to struggle and gradually broke free from the Illusion Realm.
HUFF... HUFF... HUFF...
He gasped for breath, clutching his heart with his right hand. It was throbbing with intense pain.
SMACK.
At the same time, Xia Yu had slapped Nie Xiaoyu awake. Nie Xiaoyu had already taken off all her clothes and was frantically clawing at her own skin.
"Xia Yu?"
"How dare you hit me?"
Nie Xiaoyu was stunned for only a moment before the stinging pain on her face registered. Anger flared within her, and then she realized she felt a chill all over her body.
She looked down.
???
’Where are my clothes?’
’Completely naked?’
’What’s going on?’
She hurriedly grabbed her clothes to cover herself and realized something was wrong. ’I was just taking a shower. How did I end up back in the first-floor living room?’
’Didn’t Xia Yu say she wasn’t coming to the party? Why is she here?’
’Why are there scratch marks on my skin?’
But Xia Yu couldn’t be bothered with her. Her gaze fell on Chu Quan, who had not yet woken up, and she prepared to act.
"A ghost."
"There’s a ghost! Help, help me!"
Chu Quan suddenly leaped up from the sofa, his face filled with terror. He scrambled frantically toward the other square pillar in the living room, intending to ram his head into it.
SWISH.
The attention of Xia Yu and the others was drawn to him.
Seeing this, a chill shot up from the soles of their feet, making their scalps tingle. Terrified by the bizarre and inexplicable scene, they all took a step back in unison.
They could only watch helplessly as Chu Quan slammed into it.
