Chapter 16: Chapter 14: Servant Spirit Species Appears

"Lord Ghost."

"I can help you kill Xia Yu! Don’t abandon me!"

Terrified that Xia Yu would agree, Li Xiaopeng blurted out his plea.

"Get lost."

Zhang Chi’s brow furrowed as he barked the order.

Li Xiaopeng flinched, looking as wronged as an abused housewife.

"So?"

"Give it some thought?"

Zhang Chi looked at Xia Yu again.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

But Xia Yu couldn’t be bothered to respond. She was busy smashing the head of the second corpse.

"Answer me."

A murderous glint appeared in Zhang Chi’s eyes.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

The third corpse’s head was smashed to pieces.

’You don’t know what’s good for you.’

Done wasting words, Zhang Chi lunged at her.

Xia Yu glanced at Yu Xiaoxiao’s body, then stopped her attacks and sprinted toward a room on the first floor instead.

"Hm?"

A look of confusion crossed Zhang Chi’s face.

’What is she doing?’

’Whatever.’

’No matter what she’s planning, she’s dead either way.’

In every aspect—speed, Power, and Defense—he completely overwhelmed her. He felt no pain, feared no injury, and didn’t even fear death. What did she possibly have to fight him with?

He didn’t know how he could possibly lose!

The distance between them closed rapidly.

CRACK.

Just as Zhang Chi leaped, about to grab Xia Yu by the neck, the door slammed shut and was quickly locked from the inside.

BAM.

He crashed into it.

The door shuddered violently.

’This can stop me?’

With a disdainful sneer, Zhang Chi thrust his hands forward with immense force, like two iron pokers, and instantly pierced through the thick wooden door.

BANG.

Immediately, his right hand was met with a heavy blow, snapping on the spot and rendering it useless.

Zhang Chi’s expression changed. He quickly pulled back his left hand, took two steps back, and then suddenly charged, intending to use his raw Power to smash the door open.

Smash it to pieces!

But instead...

The door was suddenly pulled open. Unable to stop his momentum, he was tripped by a leg Xia Yu shot out.

He instantly lost his balance and fell heavily to the ground.

It had to be said, this Ghost Clan member had considerable combat experience. It had observed Xia Yu targeting the heads of the corpses earlier and deduced that the head must be the weak point after zombification.

Therefore, instead of instinctively throwing its hands up to protect its face, it used its left hand to shield the back of its head.

’It wasn’t ready to give up this useful vessel just yet.’

SZZZ.

But then it heard a strange sound from beneath it. It looked down.

’Explosives?’

BOOM!

The sound of an explosion rang out.

A terrifying shockwave sent it flying.

BOOM.

Immediately after, a second explosion erupted.

Violent Spiritual Energy raged outwards.

"AHH!"

A blood-curdling scream echoed through the air.

Soon, the surroundings returned to calm.

The moment she tripped Zhang Chi, Xia Yu had already darted out the door at an angle, covering her ears and dropping to the ground. Her body was positioned just clear of the doorway, allowing her to evade the dual damage from the explosives and the Crystal Core’s detonation.

She was only caught in the fringe of the violent Spiritual Energy from the Crystal Core’s explosion.

Even so, Xia Yu felt a tearing pain all over her body. Her feet, in particular, were in agony, though her shoes were surprisingly undamaged.

This just went to show how terrifying the power of a Spiritual Energy explosion was.

Xia Yu quickly got to her feet. The pain from her feet almost made her stumble, and even with her extremely high pain tolerance, she couldn’t help but frown.

Then, steeling herself against the pain, she quickly approached the blast site, needing to confirm whether the Ghost Clan member was truly dead.

Zhang Chi’s upper body had been blown to bits—a gruesome, mangled mess.

The surrounding furniture was utterly destroyed, the walls were cracked, and the Yin Qi was scattered, unable to coalesce.

A fire began to spread.

’It’s dead.’

Xia Yu felt a wave of relief, but when she saw Zhang Chi roaring and trying to get up, she immediately raised her baseball bat and brought it down on his head several times.

’Eight minutes.’

She walked out of the room, preparing to deal with the variable that was Yu Xiaoxiao.

Just then, a fluctuation of Spiritual Energy appeared above her head.

’It’s here!’

Xia Yu’s eyes lit up. Ignoring the pain in her feet, she unhesitatingly sprinted upstairs.

Rule-based resources changed location every so often. She had to race against time!

Li Xiaopeng, who had been completely terrified by the commotion, was huddled in a corner, too scared to move. Seeing Xia Yu dash upstairs, he assumed she was being chased by the ghost.

’Xia Yu, you have to win.’

He prayed for this deep down, because in his mind, if Xia Yu won, he would live.

The fire quickly spread to the living room.

Not wanting to be burned alive, Li Xiaopeng mustered his courage, got up, and prepared to leave the villa.

Just then, the body of Yu Xiaoxiao in front of him suddenly moved.

Terrified, Li Xiaopeng leaped backward.

"ROAR."

Yu Xiaoxiao slowly rose to her feet, letting out an inhuman roar as her appearance completely changed.

She had become a Mutant!

"!!!"

Li Xiaopeng spun around and ran upstairs.

"ROAR."

Hearing the noise, Yu Xiaoxiao fixed her attention on Li Xiaopeng and chased after him, roaring.

「On the rooftop.」

A Servant Spirit Species, the size of a baby’s fist and glowing with a white light, was floating in the air. The surrounding Spiritual Energy fluctuations were growing stronger.

’It hasn’t fully formed yet.’

Xia Yu panted slightly, looking at the Servant Spirit Species before her with a sigh of relief.

Although it still needed a few minutes to form, an unformed rule-based resource couldn’t change its location.

She tightened her grip on her baseball bat and looked toward the top of the third-floor staircase.

Her task now was to guard the Servant Spirit Species and eliminate any and all threats.

To her surprise, she waited a full five minutes, almost until the Servant Spirit Species was about to finish forming, before Li Xiaopeng finally appeared.

However, his right arm was now completely gone. Behind him, Yu Xiaoxiao was chasing him while gnawing on the severed limb.

"Help! Help me!"

Li Xiaopeng was shocked to see Xia Yu was still alive, but he was in no state to think about that. He scrambled toward her like a madman, crying for help.

"Stay back!"

Xia Yu’s gaze turned icy.

A fully formed Servant Spirit Species could be claimed by marking it with a drop of blood, after which no one else could take it.

Therefore, she absolutely could not allow Li Xiaopeng to get near it.

However, with death at his heels, Li Xiaopeng was in no condition to listen. He was focused solely on his desperate flight.

BAM.

Xia Yu suddenly accelerated and kicked Li Xiaopeng square in the stomach.

Instantly, Li Xiaopeng folded like a spineless shrimp, his body doubling over before crashing hard into Yu Xiaoxiao behind him.

Xia Yu followed up with a swing of her baseball bat.

CRACK.

The sound of bone cracking echoed, but Yu Xiaoxiao didn’t die from the single blow.

Xia Yu wasn’t surprised. Her own Power was limited, and she knew it would take several hits to kill it. She immediately wound up for a second swing.

In that brief moment, however, Yu Xiaoxiao opened her gaping maw and sank her teeth into Li Xiaopeng’s left shoulder, splattering blood everywhere.

"Ah!"

Li Xiaopeng cried out in pain.

CRACK.

The second blow landed. Yu Xiaoxiao’s jaw went slack, allowing Li Xiaopeng to break free. He scrambled and crawled away to the side.

He looked back.

Xia Yu’s third strike came down, smashing Yu Xiaoxiao’s skull.

Yu Xiaoxiao was dead.

"Huuu."

Seeing this, Li Xiaopeng let out a huge sigh of relief.
