I See Murders Before They Happen
Chapter 91 - 89: Gave the Backup to a Friend
Chapter 91: Chapter 89: Gave the Backup to a Friend
Su Miaoyi snapped back to reality and suddenly grabbed Zhuang Yanzheng’s arm.
Zhuang Yanzheng had seen her abruptly stop just now, looking as if she had seen something.
He had been standing right beside her without moving.
"What did you see?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
Kang Ting watched this incredible scene unfold.
Su Miaoyi looked at Zhuang Yanzheng. "Cao Hong killed Mo Xiaoxiao."
She had just seen it through the murderer’s eyes.
But when they were arresting Cao Hong, the two of them had also made eye contact, and she hadn’t seen anything.
Now, she had suddenly seen something again.
Zhuang Yanzheng froze for a moment.
Kang Ting was also surprised.
Zhuang Yanzheng looked toward Cao Hong. "Hey! Wait!"
The officers leading Cao Hong away stopped.
Zhuang Yanzheng said, "Bring him back. There’s something else I need to ask."
The officers escorted Cao Hong back to the interrogation room.
At the door to the interrogation room, Cao Hong looked at Su Miaoyi again.
Su Miaoyi met his gaze once more, and from the calmness in Cao Hong’s eyes, she detected a hint of scrutiny.
His gaze made her a little uncomfortable.
Watching Cao Hong re-enter the interrogation room, Su Miaoyi described the scene she saw to Zhuang Yanzheng. "Mo Xiaoxiao’s eyes were gouged out. Her face was covered in blood, and she was tortured before she died."
Zhuang Yanzheng frowned.
Su Miaoyi continued, "Cao Hong asked her a question: ’You’re really not going to talk?’ Mo Xiaoxiao gritted her teeth and said nothing, and then Cao Hong snapped her neck."
She paused after speaking. "I also saw two men throw a black bag into a pit and bury it. It looked like the bag contained a body. The two men were bundled up so tightly I couldn’t be sure who they were. But one of them must have been Cao Hong, since I was seeing it through his eyes."
"What about the location?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
Su Miaoyi shook her head. "It was dark and wide open all around. I didn’t see any landmarks."
Zhuang Yanzheng didn’t say anything.
Su Miaoyi added, "Mo Xiaoxiao was wearing a red T-shirt and a pair of light-blue jeans. She also had a red hairpin clipped above her left ear."
"Okay, got it." After speaking, Zhuang Yanzheng entered the interrogation room.
Su Miaoyi and Kang Ting went to the window of the interrogation room again to watch and listen.
"You can still see through the murderer’s eyes?" Kang Ting asked.
Su Miaoyi nodded.
Kang Ting said no more and looked inside the interrogation room.
After sitting down, Zhuang Yanzheng asked, "Where did Mo Xiaoxiao go?"
Cao Hong frowned. "Why do you keep asking me about Mo Xiaoxiao? She quit, so she has nothing to do with me anymore. How would I know where she went?"
"You don’t know?" Zhuang Yanzheng watched him.
"I don’t know," Cao Hong said.
"You killed her, and you don’t know?" Zhuang Yanzheng’s voice suddenly rose.
Cao Hong suddenly fell silent.
"Why did you kill her?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
Cao Hong looked at him. "I didn’t kill her. What evidence do you have that I did? What? Are you in such a hurry to go home for the New Year that you want to pin this unsolved case on me too?"
Zhuang Yanzheng said, "Mo Xiaoxiao is a missing person. The Jiangcheng City Bureau has been investigating."
"So what? If you can’t solve it, you just pin it on me?" Cao Hong said. "She quit. Where she went, whether she’s dead or alive, has nothing to do with me anymore."
"An eyewitness just claimed to have seen you kill her," Zhuang Yanzheng said.
"An eyewitness? Who?" Cao Hong was completely composed. "How can there be an eyewitness to something I never did?"
Zhuang Yanzheng watched his calm and confident expression. "That day, Mo Xiaoxiao was wearing a red T-shirt, light-blue jeans, and had a red hairpin clipped above her left ear."
Cao Hong stared at him.
Zhuang Yanzheng continued, "You gouged out her eyes, then snapped her neck. The eyewitness also heard you ask her, ’You’re really not going to talk?’ What did you want to ask her?"
Cao Hong’s brows knitted together, not in confusion, but in shock.
Zhuang Yanzheng watched his expression.
It was the first time during today’s interrogation that he had shown a shocked expression.
Cao Hong didn’t speak.
An image of Mo Xiaoxiao appeared in his mind.
Zhuang Yanzheng asked again, "What did you want to ask her? Why did you kill her?"
Cao Hong still said nothing.
’How could someone have seen?’
’In such a hidden place, how could anyone have seen?’
’Impossible.’
’But then how does he know so many details?’
’He even knows what Mo Xiaoxiao was wearing, and the way she was killed.’
’If someone didn’t see it, how could he possibly know?’
’Is there really an eyewitness, or... did someone betray me?’
’If someone betrayed me, wouldn’t the others be in great danger?’
"Who is the eyewitness?" Cao Hong suddenly asked.
The look in his eyes was sinister, filled with hatred.
Zhuang Yanzheng glanced at him. "We have to protect our witness."
Outside, Su Miaoyi watched Cao Hong.
’It seems this has caught Cao Hong completely off guard. He never thought anyone would find out. Most importantly, his focus isn’t on having another life on his hands, but on the eyewitness Zhuang Yanzheng mentioned. There’s worry mixed in with the hatred he’s showing. He’s desperate to know who the eyewitness is.’
Zhuang Yanzheng obviously wasn’t going to tell him. "Why did you kill Mo Xiaoxiao?"
Cao Hong lowered his head.
Zhuang Yanzheng asked again.
With his head still lowered, Cao Hong said, "She recorded a video of a conversation between me and Shao Dong."
"What conversation?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
"A conversation about a drug deal." Cao Hong sighed. "Shao Dong has been working for me for several years. There was a problem with a deal that day, and Shao Dong couldn’t reach me by phone, so he came to the Fengjiang Clubhouse. While we were talking, Mo Xiaoxiao recorded us."
"And then?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
"We sensed we were being recorded right away and rushed out, but we didn’t see anyone," Cao Hong said. "So we went to check the surveillance footage. By the time we pulled it up, Mo Xiaoxiao had already run off. It actually took very little time to get the footage, but she still managed to escape."
"But we found her quickly, in less than half an hour. We found the video she took and deleted it on the spot."
"But then Mo Xiaoxiao said she had backed up the video and given it to a friend, and that if she died, her friend would definitely release it." Cao Hong snorted. "Stupid. Did she think we wouldn’t kill her just because of that? Did she think she could save her own skin just because she had leverage on us? I gouged out her eyes, but she refused to say who she gave it to. What value is there in keeping someone like that alive?"
Listening to him, Zhuang Yanzheng’s jawline tightened, and his heart pounded in his chest.
Standing outside, Su Miaoyi subconsciously steadied herself against the wall beside her.
Kang Ting frowned and looked at Su Miaoyi.
Zhuang Yanzheng asked again, "Did you find out who Mo Xiaoxiao’s friend was?"
"Su Miaoyi," Cao Hong said. "She was the one we found."
"And then?" Zhuang Yanzheng’s eyes were fixed on him.
"By the time we found out it was Su Miaoyi, she was already on a plane back to Jinghai," Cao Hong said.
"And then you went to Jinghai?" Zhuang Yanzheng’s expression didn’t change, but his heart was racing.
"Yes," Cao Hong said.
