Chapter 597: Chapter 378: An Existence Far More Terrifying Than a Third-Order Initial Stage Enemy

Across the street, Zhu Daqi, who was tailing his target, saw him come out of the market empty-handed and get into a van. He immediately started his own car.

As Lin Li drove the van out of the parking spot in front of the market and headed toward Su Yue’s district, Zhu Daqi judged the distance and then followed.

’Damn it, did this guy really come out just to take a stroll through the market? If so, I’m starting to wonder if there’s something wrong with his head.’

Zhu Daqi, tailing him in a sedan, saw the target driving back the way he came and assumed he was heading home. This puzzled him, and he couldn’t help but curse under his breath.

The most frustrating part of a surveillance mission is when the target does something pointless. It really gets on the nerves of the person tailing them.

Zhu Daqi was an experienced tracker. He had tailed several targets before, and their movements were always clear-cut. A few days of following them was usually enough to complete the mission.

But this current target... lately, he’d first gone to the Superpower Administration Bureau, then holed up at home, and now he’d gone to the market only to walk out empty-handed. It was all so strange.

Zhu Daqi continued to follow the target. He soon discovered that the target drove into an unfamiliar residential district, not the one where he lived.

"Tsk..." Pulling his car over to the side of the road, he watched the district his target had entered. ’Happiness Garden District. Why would he come to this place?’

Lin Li drove the van into the district, found a parking spot, and then walked toward the building where Su Yue lived.

A moment later, the elevator doors opened, and Lin Li stepped out, carrying a large bag of fish fillets.

DING DONG.

He reached out and rang the doorbell. A moment later, the door was opened.

Today, Su Yue was wearing a white, V-neck camisole with a peplum waist, paired with light-colored hot pants that perfectly accentuated her stunning, slender figure.

Looking at Su Yue’s radiant smile, Lin Li couldn’t help but think, ’Heaven really knows how to play favorites sometimes.’

’Su Yue’s face was already flawless and beyond reproach, yet her body was so exquisitely curvaceous. It’s a good thing I’m a guy. If I were a woman, I’d probably be incredibly jealous.’

"What are you spacing out for? Hurry and come in!" Su Yue called out to Lin Li, who was standing at the door staring blankly at her.

She then turned, walked over to the shoe cabinet in the entryway, and took out a pair of men’s slippers she had prepared specially for Lin Li, placing them on the floor.

As she bent over, her alluring curves were on full display. Standing behind her, Lin Li’s heart instantly began to race. To avoid embarrassing himself, he quickly averted his gaze.

Even yesterday in Dongwu City of the Spirit Realm, during a fierce battle with an Initial Stage Tier 3 enemy, his heart hadn’t pounded this fast.

’And yet, here he was, his heart thumping wildly because of Su Yue’s casual movement. Could she be an existence far more terrifying than an Initial Stage Tier 3 enemy?’

"Give me the prepared fish!" Su Yue said with a smile, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

"Right." Still a little distracted, Lin Li quickly handed the large bag of fish to Su Yue and slipped on the slippers placed before him.

"Whoa, this is heavy! How much did the two fish you bought weigh in total?" Su Yue asked curiously as she took the large bag of fish from Lin Li, feeling the weight in her hand.

"Together, they were ten and a half pounds," Lin Li replied.

"You actually bought two fish that big?" Su Yue said in surprise. "Are we really going to cook all of this?"

Lin Li knew she was worried they wouldn’t be able to finish it all if they cooked the entire bag of fish. He smiled, patted his stomach, and said, "Cook it all. Don’t worry! We can finish it..."

"Alright, if you say so, I’ll cook it. Come with me, I’ll teach you how to make water-boiled fish and pickled vegetable fish," Su Yue said with a smile, beckoning for Lin Li to follow her to the kitchen.

Lin Li followed Su Yue into the kitchen. What happened next was quite similar to when he had learned to make braised beef with potatoes.

After entering the kitchen, Su Yue immediately took her apron off the hook on the wall and put it on Lin Li.

Lin Li wasn’t used to wearing an apron while cooking, but since Chef Su insisted, he had no choice but to comply.

Su Yue watched with a beaming smile as Lin Li put on her apron, feeling very happy inside. Then she began to teach him, step-by-step, how to make water-boiled fish and pickled vegetable fish.

Although the internet is so advanced now, with countless video bloggers recording cooking tutorials for everyone to learn from, watching a video could never be as effective as in-person, hands-on instruction.

Plus, Su Yue’s skills were absolutely top-notch. Having a master chef like her teaching him personally, even a rookie with no natural talent for cooking like Lin Li would end up with a dish that tasted decent, even if he couldn’t replicate her recipe one-hundred percent.

One taught with great care and attention, while the other learned with earnest focus. Soon, under Su Yue’s guidance, Lin Li had prepared two large bowls of fragrant and delicious water-boiled fish and pickled vegetable fish.

"Very good. Following the method I just taught you, you’ve pretty much mastered these two dishes," Su Yue said with a grin after tasting the water-boiled fish and pickled vegetable fish Lin Li had made.

"Thank you for your lesson today, Chef Su..." Lin Li, thrilled to have learned two new dishes, said happily to Su Yue.

Seeing the joyful smile on Lin Li’s face, Su Yue’s own smile became even more radiant and captivating.

"Alright, take these two bowls of water-boiled fish and pickled vegetable fish to the table. I’ll just mix up a few cold side dishes, and then we can have lunch."

"Okay." Lin Li nodded, then carried the two large bowls of water-boiled fish and pickled vegetable fish from the stove out of the kitchen.

...

「Spirit Realm, Dongwu City.」

A great river flowed endlessly from north to south, cutting through the entirety of Dongwu City.

Its banks were lined with shady green trees. Such a scenic and prime location was often the first choice for powerful and influential families to build their mansions.

A sprawling estate occupied the very best spot along the riverbank that ran through Dongwu City.

"Captain Wu, you’re back?" a guard standing watch at the mansion’s gate called out with a smile when he saw a group of men on horseback approaching and recognized them.

"Mm." Wu Xiong dismounted and nodded to the guards who had greeted him. Then he turned to his companions and said, "Go on about your business. I am going to see the Master."

"Yes, sir," the guards replied, then led their horses toward the stables.

The mansions of the rich and powerful were never small. This estate on the riverbank was filled with pavilions and towers. People bustled back and forth along the corridors—judging by their attire, they were the male and female servants of the household.

"Greetings, Captain Wu." The passing servants greeted Wu Xiong with great respect whenever they saw him.

Wu Xiong was in a hurry to report to his master about the Red Blood Gang, so unlike his earlier nod to the guards at the gate, he ignored the servants’ greetings and walked away quickly.

"Guard Wu is in such a hurry! I wonder what’s going on?" a maid casually asked a male servant beside her.

"Shh..." The male servant he was asked quickly raised a hand, pressing his index finger to his lips. "We should just focus on our own duties. Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t. If the steward finds out you’ve been prying, you know what will happen..."

"Oh..." Reminded by the male servant, the maid who had only asked casually immediately shut her mouth.

She then recalled the miserable fate of a maid from last month. The girl had only been at the mansion for a few days, was unfamiliar with the rules, and liked to snoop. The steward had her beaten more than a dozen times with a rod. A fearful expression couldn’t help but appear on her face.
