Chapter 601: Chapter 380: Like and Dislike, a Double Entendre
Although Lin Li’s photography skills weren’t great, Su Yue was extremely photogenic, and the photos turned out beautifully. If they were made into posters, many people might mistake her for a newly debuted celebrity.
"What do you think? The photos I picked out are pretty good, right?" Su Yue asked with a smile as Lin Li flipped through the album.
"Yeah, they’re pretty good..." Lin Li mumbled, then closed the album before he had even finished looking through it.
"Do you like it?"
"What?"
"I’m asking if you like this album."
"It’s alright."
"Like is like, and dislike is dislike. What’s with this ’it’s alright’ business!" Su Yue was very dissatisfied with Lin Li’s vague answer and immediately rolled her eyes at him.
"Uh... I’ll take the album. Thanks." Lin Li didn’t answer her question directly, instead taking the album and walking out of the study.
"You still haven’t told me if you like the album or not!" Seeing Lin Li leave, Su Yue immediately chased after him, looking as if she wouldn’t let him go until she got a clear answer.
"You’re so annoying! Fine, I like it. I like the album a lot, okay?" Lin Li said, a helpless expression on his face.
"Hee hee..." Su Yue giggled. "If you like it, you should just say so! Why be so secretive about it?"
Lin Li sat down on the living room sofa and placed the album Su Yue had given him to the side. He looked at Su Yue as she sat down next to him, feeling like her words had a hidden meaning.
"Oh, right. When I went out to get the album this morning, I stopped by the supermarket on the way back and bought a bunch of ice cream. Want some?" Su Yue asked.
Lin Li’s train of thought was interrupted. He nodded, watching Su Yue stand up and walk gracefully toward the kitchen.
While Su Yue was in the kitchen getting the ice cream, Lin Li picked up the nearby album, opened it, and continued flipping through it.
Looking at the photos of Su Yue striking various poses at different scenic spots, her eyes sparkling, he thought to himself, ’This woman really is photogenic!’
...
It was just after three in the afternoon, and the hottest part of the day had mostly passed.
Outside the Happiness Garden District, in a sedan parked under a tree by the road, Zhu Daqi sat in the driver’s seat with the AC blasting, staring impatiently at the distant residential complex.
Several hours had passed since the target had entered the district.
So far, there had been no sign of the target coming out. His parking spot was right in the direct, fierce sunlight, and even with the car’s AC on, it was still quite uncomfortable.
Right now, Zhu Daqi desperately hoped the target would come out and return to his original residential district so he could move to a spot in the shade to continue his surveillance.
’Dammit, maybe I should just call it a day! I put a tracker on his car anyway. It won’t matter if I go home and rest for a bit.’ Having tailed him for so long, Zhu Daqi’s patience had worn thin, and he muttered to himself.
He thought about it for a moment, made the decision to go home, then started the car and began to head home.
And just about ten minutes after Zhu Daqi left, a silver-white van drove out of the district, speeding off toward the outskirts of the East District.
"Let’s go, let’s go! Off to camp!"
"It’s just camping. Look how excited you are..."
"Well, it’s been a long time since I’ve been camping!"
"When was the last time you went camping?"
"A few years ago! I think it was during my sophomore year of college. What about you?"
"Me? Back in high school, I used to go camping on weekends every so often. I haven’t gone since starting college."
While Lin Li was driving the van with Su Yue toward the campsite, Zhu Daqi, who had decided to go home and rest, was almost home.
Suddenly, his phone, in his pocket, made a distinct sound.
PING.
Zhu Daqi pulled his phone out of his pocket and glanced at the tracking app.
The sight made him furious. He saw that the target he had been tracking was now on the move in his car.
’Son of a bitch... I watched you all day, and you barely moved. The moment I decide to go home, when I’m almost there, you start moving. What’s the big idea?’
Staring at the constantly moving dot on the tracking app, Zhu Daqi felt like he was being played for a fool.
The mission to track the target had been given to him by his big brother. Slacking off was fine if the target wasn’t moving. But now that he was on the move, Zhu Daqi had to change his plans immediately, no matter how much he just wanted to go home and rest.
Moreover, the target wasn’t heading back toward his original district, so he had to get on his tail right away.
Slowing down, Zhu Daqi turned the car around. Watching the display on his phone’s tracking app, he sped off in pursuit of the target’s location.
...
That afternoon, traffic was excellent. Lin Li drove the van through several traffic lights without hitting any congestion.
After leaving the bustling city center and entering the suburbs, he could feel a noticeable change in the greenbelts on either side of the road.
"I feel like the vegetation in the suburban greenbelts grows much more lushly than the stuff in the city!" Su Yue said from the passenger seat, looking out the window at the greenbelts lining the road.
"It’s probably because we’re closer to the wilderness. The concentration of free-floating Spiritual Energy in the air is a bit higher than in the bustling city center," Lin Li replied.
"Oh, so that’s why!" Su Yue nodded in sudden understanding.
"I was just saying. Don’t take it too seriously," Lin Li said. "Chenghua Avenue is just up ahead. Where’s that campsite you were talking about?"
Su Yue pulled her gaze away from the greenbelts and took her phone out of her bag.
After opening the map app on her phone, she looked at the campsite she had previously marked and began to give Lin Li directions.
"Turn left at the next intersection, then go straight until you get to Penglai Road..."
Following Su Yue’s directions, Lin Li drove for nearly thirty minutes before arriving at their camping spot.
By now, it was a little after four in the afternoon. In just over an hour, the sun hanging in the sky would set.
"Let’s get out!" Once the van was parked, Su Yue, in the passenger seat, immediately unbuckled her seatbelt. After a word to Lin Li, she opened her door and got out first.
CLICK.
THUD.
After Su Yue got out, Lin Li followed. He glanced around at the idyllic scenery of lush mountains and clear water.
The two of them were at the foot of a mountain range, surrounded by shady green trees. In the distance, a small creek flowed down from the mountains.
The crystal-clear water of the creek flowed past, not far from where they had parked.
"So, what do you think? This spot I picked is nice and cool, isn’t it?" A cool mountain breeze sent Su Yue’s soft hair flying. She raised a hand to brush the messy strands back, then turned to Lin Li and spoke.
"This place is cool, yeah, but... I thought tourists weren’t allowed to camp here!" Lin Li said, confused.
He then looked about a dozen meters away, where a few other cars were parked. Even further off, there were more cars. It was clear that quite a few people had come here to camp.
"They really didn’t used to allow camping here, but see? They opened it up this summer!" Su Yue said with a laugh.
"Oh, I see!" Lin Li nodded, then said, "The sun will be down in a little over an hour. We should hurry and find a spot to set up camp."
"Mhm." Su Yue nodded. Then she opened the back of the van, ready to take out a large pile of camping gear.
"There’s a lot of stuff. Let’s just take some of it for now. Once we find a spot to camp, we can come back for the rest..." Lin Li said, looking at the huge pile of camping equipment in the back of the van.
At the same time, he thought to himself, ’It’s a shame I can’t just put all this stuff into the Mysterious Small Island in front of Su Yue. Otherwise, I could take everything in one trip and save a lot of trouble.’
Su Yue nodded. She had changed into a lightweight long-sleeved shirt and long pants before they left.
Bending over, she shouldered a backpack filled with supplies, then pointed in the direction the creek was flowing from and said.
"Lin Li, let’s go look for a spot over there!"
"I just saw a few people heading in that direction," Lin Li said.
"I saw them too. It’s fine. Let’s go check it out first. If there are too many people, we can just find another spot," Su Yue said.
