I Start with a Mysterious Island
Chapter 603 - 381: Foolproof
Chapter 603: Chapter 381: Foolproof
Liu Menglong heard Zhu Daqi say there were a lot of people at the campsite. After pondering for a few seconds, he gave the order, "Find his exact camping location, and then call me back."
"Alright, Boss. I’ll go find his exact spot right now," Zhu Daqi said.
After they hung up, Zhu Daqi immediately got out of his car and headed off in the direction Lin Li had gone.
In a quiet living room, the news was playing on the television. Having ended his call with Zhu Daqi, Liu Menglong sat on the sofa, his face devoid of expression, mulling over the new information.
’Although the target’s campsite has a lot of people, that doesn’t mean I won’t have a chance to make my move.
’Late at night, when everything is quiet and the other campers are asleep, I can launch a sneak attack. With my power, taking out an Exotic Beast Hunter who’s only at Tier One Peak would be the easiest thing in the world.’
As these thoughts churned in Liu Menglong’s mind, the more he considered how easy it would be, the more a Spiritual Energy Wave began to emanate from his body, gradually growing stronger.
The sun on the horizon seemed to don a vibrant new robe, dyeing half the sky a brilliant crimson.
When Lin Li returned to the campsite carrying two large tote bags filled with supplies, he saw Su Yue standing with her arms crossed, gazing proudly at the large tent she had pitched.
Hearing footsteps behind her, Su Yue turned around. "You’re back! Quick, look! I’ve already pitched the tent."
"I saw it from a mile away." Lin Li set the two large tote bags on the ground. Then, he walked over to the tent Su Yue had assembled and inspected it. He found that she had pitched it with surprising sturdiness.
"So? My tent-pitching skills are pretty impressive, right?" Su Yue said, puffed up with pride.
"You did a great job. It’s better than I expected. I was actually thinking I’d have to re-pitch it after I got back with the supplies!" Lin Li said with a laugh.
Su Yue’s face fell. "What’s that supposed to mean? You really have that little faith in me?
"It’s just a tent. Even if I’d never pitched one before, I could figure it out from the instructions. Besides, this isn’t my first time."
Lin Li chuckled, then pointed to the two large tote bags he’d brought. "I’m going to make one more trip back to the car for the rest of our things. You can start unpacking these and getting them organized."
"Okay." Su Yue nodded, squatting down to start taking out the cooking supplies—pots, bowls, ladles, and the like—from the large tote bags.
Zhu Daqi, who had been tailing Lin Li all this time, now stood several dozen meters away. He held a pair of miniature binoculars, pretending to be a tourist taking in the scenery. In reality, he was watching the two people chatting in the distance.
’Damn, that kid actually has such a beautiful girlfriend. What a waste...’
Through his miniature binoculars, Zhu Daqi took in the entire scene.
Just then, he saw his target leave the campsite and start walking in his direction. He quickly lowered the binoculars and started up the hillside by the road.
He climbed a high slope, steadied himself by grabbing the trunk of a large tree, and raised his miniature binoculars again, pretending to survey the landscape.
Lin Li walked along the uneven dirt path, passing right by Zhu Daqi.
’The target’s heading back to his car to get more camping gear,’ Zhu Daqi thought, watching Lin Li walk off into the distance.
He then pulled his phone out of his pocket and called his boss.
He pressed the call button, and the line connected almost instantly.
"Hello? How are things?"
"Boss, the target’s campsite is pretty secluded. There aren’t many people around."
"Good. I understand. Head back to your car. I’ll be there shortly."
"Yes."
After hanging up, Zhu Daqi felt a surge of relief. ’Great! The boss is on his way. My surveillance duty is almost over.’
"Huh...?"
Just as Zhu Daqi was celebrating the imminent end of his surveillance duty, he suddenly saw the target returning.
He had a good idea of what the target had gone to do, but what made him gasp in surprise was how quickly he had returned.
’What’s going on? How did he get the supplies and come back so fast? Did he sprint the whole way back to the car where I couldn’t see him?’
Zhu Daqi watched as Lin Li carried a good-sized cooler, on top of which sat two folded stools. He thought that sprinting along such a rough dirt path while carrying all that would be incredibly difficult.
’Whatever. Why am I thinking so much about it? Once the boss gets here, my job is done.’
With that thought, Zhu Daqi watched his target carry the large cooler back to the campsite. He then walked down from the hillside and headed back toward his car.
Su Yue, who was organizing the camping supplies, looked up in surprise as Lin Li returned with more things.
"Lin Li, how are you back so quickly?"
Lin Li had only gone part of the way before simply taking the items out from the Mysterious Small Island and turning back. Hearing Su Yue’s question, he gave a vague reply.
"Quickly? Oh, it was nothing. I guess I jogged, so it probably seemed fast."
Su Yue didn’t give it a second thought. Instead, she reminded him,
"The path here isn’t very even. You don’t have to be in such a rush to bring everything back. If you slipped and hurt yourself, it wouldn’t be worth it."
Lin Li nodded and set the cooler he was carrying on the ground.
Then, he took the two folded stools off the top and handed one to Su Yue. "Squatting is tiring. Here, sit down while you sort things out."
Su Yue hummed in agreement, took the stool from Lin Li, unfolded it, and sat down, continuing to organize the items from the tote bags.
Lin Li unfolded his own stool, set it aside, and then grabbed a few support rods to start setting up the stand for their dinner stove.
After a flurry of activity, the sky grew darker and the temperature by the stream steadily dropped.
A breeze swept through the woods, causing the campers’ tents to sway gently. Many of the thinly-clad tourists shivered from the chill.
Su Yue, dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and pants, didn’t feel cold. But then she remembered Lin Li was still in a T-shirt. She turned to him as he was taking vegetables out of a bag and asked, "Lin Li, are you cold?"
"I’m fine. Why, are you cold?" Lin Li replied, looking up from the basin where he was placing some bok choy, enoki mushrooms, and scallions.
"I’m not cold, I’m in long sleeves. I’m worried about you! Once night falls, the temperature will drop even more. Don’t go catching a cold," Su Yue said, concerned.
"Don’t worry about me! A little drop in temperature isn’t enough to make me sick," Lin Li said with a smile. He then carried the basin of vegetables over to the nearby stream to wash them.
The sun set, and darkness fell upon the land. A bright moon hung high in the night sky, and the heavens were blanketed with stars.
A small gray sedan left the bustling city center and entered the quieter suburbs.
Liu Menglong, a man with a rather vicious-looking face, followed the location his subordinate provided and soon arrived in the area where Lin Li and Su Yue were camping.
"Boss, over here!" Zhu Daqi, who had been waiting by the side of the road, called out and waved as soon as the familiar car and its license plate—which he knew by heart—came into view.
Dressed in a black T-shirt and dark green slacks, Liu Menglong pulled over and killed the engine. As he opened the door and got out, Zhu Daqi immediately rushed to his side.
"You didn’t alert the target, did you?"
"Boss, I have plenty of experience with surveillance. The target has absolutely no idea I’m tailing him," Zhu Daqi said with complete confidence.
"Good. Now, take me to his exact location," Liu Menglong said.
Zhu Daqi nodded and took the lead, heading toward the distant woods to guide Liu Menglong.
