Chapter 611: Chapter 385: Early Warning, Highly Recognizable

After getting out of the car, Liu Jialin and her team didn’t immediately step into the wilderness to head toward their final destination.

"In a moment, I’ll take the lead and clear the path. You all stay back and cover me from the left and right," said Liu Jialin, the captain, laying out her plan.

"Captain, let me clear the path instead! The Superpower I awakened makes my sense of smell extremely keen.

If that Second Order Peak Mutant Beast is hiding its Spiritual Energy fluctuations and lurking in the tall grass,

even if we can’t see it with the naked eye, I can use my keen sense of smell to detect anything unusual and spot it sooner."

An Investigator with a high-bridged nose volunteered. As he spoke, a faint golden Spiritual Light appeared around his nose.

"You can cover me from behind and still use your keen sense of smell to scan for anything unusual. There’s no need for you to be the one clearing the path," Liu Jialin said, shaking her head and rejecting her teammate’s request.

In her view, while the Investigator with the high-bridged nose had a point, his strength was only at the Second Order Initial Stage.

If he were to clear the path, even if he managed to discover the Mutant Beast’s location first, he would be killed in a single blow if the beast attacked at the same time.

Of course, with her cultivation at the Second Order Middle Stage, even Liu Jialin wasn’t confident she could block a single attack from an unknown Mutant Beast at the Second Order Peak.

However, her chances of survival were certainly much higher than her weaker teammate’s.

Therefore, Liu Jialin would not allow the Investigator with the high-bridged nose to take her place at the front. This was her responsibility as captain.

"Captain, I..." The other Investigators also tried to volunteer, but Liu Jialin cut them off before they could finish.

"Enough. Don’t say another word. I’m the captain, so do as I say," Liu Jialin said, her tone firm and decisive.

"Yes, ma’am." Seeing her resolve, the team members didn’t insist. Obeying the captain’s orders during a mission was a principle every Investigator had to remember and uphold.

Although the silvery moonlight from the bright moon above was enough to see the path at their feet, its illumination was ultimately limited, making it impossible to see far into the distance.

So, Liu Jialin took a small flashlight from her belt. After switching it on, she said to her teammates, "Let’s move out."

The four Investigators nodded, split into two groups, and fanned out to her left and right, ready to follow Liu Jialin into the wilderness toward the location of the Mutant Beast mentioned by their superiors.

BOOM—

Just as Liu Jialin’s team entered the wilderness and had traveled about a kilometer, a heaven-shaking explosion roared in the distance.

Liu Jialin’s team looked up toward the source of the explosion and saw flames soaring into the sky.

Immediately after, a piercing roar filled with rage followed.

ROAR—

After hearing the explosion and the roar, Liu Jialin’s team quickly spotted a gigantic creature in their line of sight.

"Captain, that must be the Mutant Beast our superiors told us about!" the rookie Investigator, Xiaowang, said, pointing a finger at the massive creature barely visible in the distance.

"It must be. Let’s sneak over there and see what’s going on," Liu Jialin said, her expression serious.

She then switched off her flashlight, took out her phone to send a message to her superiors, and then took the lead, moving forward.

"Yes, ma’am." Her teammates nodded and followed behind her in an orderly fashion.

Although Liu Jialin and her teammates wanted to get a closer look at the situation, they didn’t rush forward recklessly. Instead, they advanced slowly and cautiously.

They would advance a short distance, pause to wait, and then set off again.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

As Liu Jialin’s team drew closer to the scene, the violent noises grew louder and louder.

Soon, they reached the maximum distance from which they could roughly make out the massive creature’s appearance.

Once Liu Jialin’s team got a clear look at the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast, they immediately recalled the Mutant Beast from recent news reports that had attacked a team of Exotic Beast Hunters.

It couldn’t be helped; the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast’s size and appearance were so distinctive that anyone who had seen the recent news reports would recognize it at a glance.

SWOOSH!

Spiritual Light flashed, and a Cyan Wind Blade, one and a half meters in diameter, coalesced in one or two seconds before shooting out from the hands of the Cultivator who had cast the Superpower.

The Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast immediately raised a claw wreathed in flames and crushed the incoming Cyan Wind Blade.

BOOM!

The captured Cyan Wind Blade instantly exploded into a gale, kicking up dust and shredded blades of grass from the ground.

ROAR— After crushing the enemy’s Superpower attack, the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast let out a mocking roar.

If Lin Li could understand the language of beasts, he would have known that the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast was mocking him for the lack of power in his Superpower, which posed little threat to it.

"Hmph..." Although Lin Li couldn’t understand the language of beasts, he could sense the mockery in the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast’s roar. He snorted coldly and unleashed a dozen more razor-sharp Cyan Wind Blades.

ROAR— Faced with another Superpower attack from its enemy, the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast’s reaction was no longer one of disdain; instead, it responded with extreme seriousness.

Only it could truly appreciate how lethal Lin Li’s Cyan Wind Blades were and how difficult they were to handle.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

It spun around, lashing its thick tail to shatter one Cyan Wind Blade after another with its Spiritual Energy-infused appendage.

Lin Li’s wave of Superpower attacks was once again intercepted by the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast.

It seemed as though he had wasted his Spiritual Energy on another ineffective attack.

However, a closer look revealed that the Spiritual Energy-infused tail it used to shatter the Cyan Wind Blades had lost many of its purple scales. The wound was a mangled mess of flesh and blood, dripping with gore.

It was injured. This time, the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast had not emerged unscathed from defending against Lin Li’s Wind Blade attack.

ROAR— The pain from its injured tail shot through the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast’s nerves, and it immediately activated its regenerative ability.

The muscles around the mangled, scale-less wound, which had been blasted by the Cyan Wind Blades, began to writhe.

The bleeding stopped instantly and began to scab over. The Mutant Beast’s recovery ability was astounding, but its scales could not regrow in such a short time.

The purple scales covering the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast were the primary reason it could effectively resist attacks from Spiritual Longswords and various Superpowers.

Although the wound had stopped bleeding and healed to the point of being a non-issue, the fact that the scales could not regrow quickly meant that the healed area could no longer effectively withstand Lin Li’s attacks as it had before.

’Heh, you finally showed a weakness. It wasn’t a waste to drag this out with you for so long. Now, let’s see if you can keep up that calm facade...’

Lin Li took in the state of the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast’s tail, knowing that the scales of victory were beginning to tip in his favor.

THUMP, THUMP, THUMP...

Having found the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast’s weakness, Lin Li immediately infused his Spiritual Longsword with Spiritual Energy and charged toward the beast, preparing to press his advantage.

ROAR—

Seeing its smiling enemy charge toward it, the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast couldn’t help but feel a flicker of panic.

This was the first time it had felt such a shift in mentality since the battle began. After a roar, it steeled itself and met the charge.

After a brief lull, the fierce battle between man and beast erupted once more.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

An endless barrage of Wind Blade attacks and the shimmering Spiritual Longsword struck the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast, creating a heart-stopping series of sounds.

In the distance, Liu Jialin and her team, hidden in the tall grass, watched with utter astonishment at the indistinct figure fiercely battling the Second Order Peak Mutant Beast.
