I Start with a Mysterious Island
Chapter 620 - 390: Different Thoughts
Chapter 620: Chapter 390: Different Thoughts
A black car drove into an old Urban Village slated for demolition, pulling up to a dated, two-story bungalow.
Zhu Daqi turned off the engine and got out of the car. He pushed open the large iron gate and walked into the courtyard.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK...
Zhu Daqi raised his hand and knocked. The moment he did, a mature woman’s voice called from inside.
"Come in."
Pushing the door open, he entered. Hearing the sound of a television from the living room, Zhu Daqi walked toward it.
Chen Xiaoyan was sitting on the living room sofa. Seeing Zhu Daqi arrive, she pointed to the sofa next to her and said, "Sit down."
"Yan, did you call me here because you have something for me to do?" Zhu Daqi sat down on the sofa, secretly gulping as he looked at the gorgeous Liu Xiaoyan in her slip dress, then asked with a straight face.
"I need you to take me to where the target you were tracking yesterday is now," Liu Xiaoyan said.
"Oh, that! Of course, no problem..." Zhu Daqi had thought it was something major, but it turned out to be such a trivial matter. Just then, however, something occurred to him.
"Yan, why are you going to the target’s place? Big Bro went to make trouble for him yesterday. The guy is most likely long gone by now."
"Your Big Bro... he still hasn’t come back," Liu Xiaoyan said after a moment of silence.
"Huh?" Zhu Daqi, who had been relaxed, was stunned when he heard this. He then asked in disbelief.
"Yan, you can’t be saying... because Big Bro went after that guy and still isn’t back, you think he was taken down by him?"
Liu Xiaoyan first nodded, then shook her head. Her contradictory reaction left the increasingly anxious Zhu Daqi completely bewildered.
Before Zhu Daqi could say anything, Liu Xiaoyan explained, "Right now, I’m not sure if something has actually happened to Liu Menglong.
I need you to take me to the target’s location so I can check on him. Only then can we reach a conclusion."
"..." Zhu Daqi fell silent. As a trusted subordinate, he knew full well that Liu Menglong was a Tier Two Middle Stage Cultivator.
’In his mind, that kid he was tracking—a rookie who’d just become an Exotic Beast Hunter—was no match for his Big Bro, no matter how good he was. How could Big Bro possibly lose to him?’
"I’m going to get changed. We’ll leave right after," said Liu Xiaoyan, still in her light slip dress. She then stood up and headed for the bedroom.
A moment later, Liu Xiaoyan emerged from the bedroom wearing a pink T-shirt and a blue miniskirt.
Zhu Daqi was still reeling from the shock of what might have happened to Liu Menglong, but the sight of Liu Xiaoyan in her vibrant outfit snapped him out of it. He couldn’t help the stray thoughts that entered his mind.
’If something really happened to Big Bro, then Yan would be single again, right? Maybe then I’d have a chance...’
Liu Xiaoyan didn’t notice the direction of Zhu Daqi’s thoughts. Her own mind was consumed with anxiety over what she would do if Liu Menglong was truly in trouble.
"Let’s go."
"Oh, right." Lost in his thoughts, Zhu Daqi snapped to his senses and hurried out of the living room after Liu Xiaoyan.
It was almost nine o’clock, and the sun, high in the sky, blazed down with scorching heat.
But since it had recently rained hard, the ground was still wet, and the intense sun didn’t feel oppressively hot.
RUMBLE...
The black sedan started. Zhu Daqi turned the steering wheel, swung the car around, and drove out of the Urban Village slated for demolition.
"Yan, can you tell me what Big Bro’s plan was yesterday when he went to make trouble for that guy?" Zhu Daqi asked curiously as he drove the sedan toward the outskirts of the East District.
To this point, he had assumed that when Liu Menglong went to cause trouble for Lin Li, it was either for a simple verbal threat or just to give him a sound beating.
The thought that Liu Menglong might have gone to kill Lin Li was something that had never once crossed Zhu Daqi’s mind.
The reason for this was that Zhu Daqi worked in Liu Menglong’s shady, underground casino.
His main duties were to maintain order in the casino, track down gamblers who didn’t pay their IOUs, and handle debt collection.
No matter how nasty his work got, he didn’t dare let it lead to someone’s death.
Because neither Zhu Daqi nor the other underlings working for Liu Menglong were fools; they knew what they could and could not do.
After all, if they were caught by Security Officers for their current jobs, the worst they’d face was a few years in prison. But if someone ended up dead, they’d be eating a bullet.
Liu Menglong knew his men were cowards at heart, so he never told them about any business that involved killing. He wouldn’t even tell Zhu Daqi, despite how much he favored him.
And Liu Xiaoyan, being from the same organization as Liu Menglong, naturally understood Zhu Daqi and the other underlings quite well.
So now, with Zhu Daqi asking what exactly Liu Menglong’s plan had been, Liu Xiaoyan certainly couldn’t tell him the truth.
"Your Big Bro planned to break one of his hands," Liu Xiaoyan explained, her face devoid of expression.
