Chapter 726: Chapter 440: The Magma Volcano That Triggers the Beast Tide

"The Magma Volcano is set to erupt soon."

Qin Muqing spoke in surprise, her beautiful, willow-shaped eyebrows furrowing as she read from a compendium of curiosities.

Magma Volcano was an immense active volcano located in the northwest corner of the region under Dongwu City’s jurisdiction.

Every hundred years, the active volcano would erupt violently, and the resulting disaster would affect a vast area.

Mutant Beasts living in the areas affected by the eruption would go on a rampage, fleeing their native habitats in massive hordes and wandering to the outskirts of human cities.

Thus, every time Magma Volcano erupted, the resulting beast tide was not to be underestimated. The affected human cities had to be on high alert and ready to respond.

’With Li Dingtian overseeing Dongwu City, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem...’ Qin Muqing mused, muttering to herself.

She then flipped through the compendium a while longer until she began to feel drowsy. Only then did she get out of bed, walk to her bedroom door, and press the switch for the Spiritual Lamp on the wall.

CLICK.

The Spiritual Lamp hanging overhead extinguished, plunging the room into darkness. The only source of light was the silvery glow of the bright, full moon outside the window.

In her embroidered slippers, Qin Muqing went to the window, drew the curtains, and then felt her way back to her bed in the darkness.

’Time for sleep.’

After lying down, she pulled a thin blanket over herself and closed her eyes, ready for sleep.

Back home, Qin Muqing would never go to bed this early.

After nightfall, the Imperial Capital was incredibly lively. Friends would drop by after dinner, inviting her to go shopping or watch shows in districts far beyond the means of ordinary people.

Later in the evening, they would go for a late-night meal at a lavish restaurant before she returned home under the escort of her guards.

Before bed, she would go to the bathroom to soak in a hot bath, attended to by several skillful maids, and only then would she retire to her room.

’I’m a little hungry!’ Qin Muqing lay in bed with her eyes closed for a good while, but she just couldn’t fall asleep.

She probably couldn’t sleep because she hadn’t eaten much for dinner and was now hungry.

She was all alone in the house. If she were hungry, she could go to the kitchen and make something for herself at any time, but she was too lazy to get up and go downstairs to cook a late-night snack.

’Sigh, I’m really craving one of Master Wang’s late-night meals...’

Tossing and turning in bed, Qin Muqing couldn’t help but feel nostalgic for the late-night meals cooked by Master Wang, a certain chef at the restaurant she used to frequent in the Imperial Capital.

The night grew deeper. As she dredged up memories of past late-night meals from the depths of her mind and savored them, drowsiness crept up on her. Before she knew it, Qin Muqing had fallen fast asleep.

...

On Blue Star, colorful lights made the entire city incredibly vibrant.

After dark, the bustling, prosperous city became even livelier than it was during the day.

"Take care, sir. Please come again," the waitress said warmly to Lin Li as he left after paying his bill.

Having eaten his fill, his hunger sated, a satisfied Lin Li walked out of the restaurant and headed for his car.

Just then, he vaguely overheard a hushed conversation about him from behind.

"I’m telling you, you have no idea how much that customer could eat," the long-haired girl who had served Lin Li said to her colleague.

"Huh? He could eat that much?" the short-haired girl asked curiously.

"Yeah! He ordered a whole table full of food, way too much for one person.

I thought for sure I’d have to get a pile of takeout boxes ready for all the leftovers.

But can you believe it? He finished every single dish on the table! Licked the plates clean..." the long-haired girl said, her face filled with awe.

"He didn’t look like he had the build of a big eater. I guess he’s a bottomless pit!" the short-haired girl remarked. "You really can’t judge a book by its cover. That saying is so true."

"Yeah! You really can’t. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen someone eat that much," the long-haired girl said.

Lin Li reached his car, took the keys from his pocket, and opened the door.

After getting into the driver’s seat and buckling his seatbelt, he took out his phone. He opened the recent message from Su Yue, checked the address, and then used his phone’s navigation to head to her location.

’After I drop Su Yue off at home, I need to go to the supermarket for some bottled water.’

Lin Li thought about his supermarket trip as he started the car. ℯ

He had drunk a lot of bottled water while hunting Mutant Beasts in the wilds that afternoon, so he was running low on the supply he kept on the Mysterious Small Island.

After he was finished with his current errand, he would need to stop by a supermarket on the way back to restock.

VROOM...

The engine rumbled to life. Lin Li turned the steering wheel, pulled out of the parking spot, and, following his phone’s navigation, sped toward Su Yue’s location.

...

The lively bar district only grew more animated as the night deepened.

This was especially true for the nightclubs; passing by their doors, you could hear the thumping beat of explosive music.

In front of the lounges playing softer music, groups of men and women gathered. The majority were women—the very same small business owners, all florists, who were here for a party tonight.
