Chapter 732: Chapter 443: The Two Stray Cats’ Warning and the Signal That Disappeared Again
The early morning sun bathed the city. Since it was still early, the heat had yet to set in.
On the trees lining the street, cicadas clinging to the trunks began to chirp.
"CHIRP, CHIRP, CHIRP..."
Amid the clamor of the cicadas, Su Yue, who had been standing beneath a tree in agony for a full thirty seconds, began to recover.
The faint, almost invisible Spiritual Light deep within her jet-black eyes dissipated.
The free-roaming Spiritual Energy in the surrounding air ceased its agitation. The formless power that had been radiating from Su Yue vanished the instant her discomfort faded.
"Huuu..."
She lowered the slender, fair hand pressed against her heart. Her red lips parted slightly as she let out a long, delicate sigh of relief.
’Strange, why did my heart suddenly start hurting like that? It’s never happened before! Hmm... I’ll go to the hospital for a full check-up after class today.’
Su Yue had always been in excellent health. Her family’s private doctor gave her a thorough physical examination every year and had never found any problems.
This sudden, painful episode with her heart left Su Yue utterly confused.
She resolved to visit the private hospital downtown for a complete physical later in the day.
"Need a ride, miss?" Just as Su Yue was thinking about her check-up, a vacant taxi pulled up in front of her. The driver smiled and asked.
"Yes." Su Yue’s thoughts were interrupted. She gave a slight nod, opened the door, and got in. "Rongxi Primary School, please."
"You got it."
’It was his first time seeing a passenger this beautiful. She was like a movie star—no, she was even prettier than a movie star.’
The driver, a man in his early thirties, was in high spirits. As soon as Su Yue was settled, he started the car and pulled away, driving smoothly and quickly toward their destination.
As Su Yue’s taxi, heading toward the school where she worked, disappeared at the far end of the street...
A few steps from where she had been standing, the healthy flowers and plants in the greenbelt were all crushed flat, bent over with no hope of recovery, affected by the formless power that had emanated from her.
...
「Ping’an Garden District, Building 3, Apartment 602.」
In the dim room, Zhou Tongtong, fast asleep in her bed, heard a knock on the door. Her eyelashes trembled a few times before she slowly opened her eyes.
"CLICK."
The door swung open, and Xia Qing walked in, her hair disheveled and a worried look on her face.
"Mom?"
Seeing the anxious expression on Xia Qing’s face, Zhou Tongtong looked at her in confusion.
"Tongtong, hurry and get up! You’re going to be late," Xia Qing, who had overslept, called to her daughter. She then turned and left the room, heading to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
"Yikes! It’s so late." After hearing her mom’s words, Zhou Tongtong sat up and looked at the cartoon alarm clock on her nightstand.
When she saw the time, she let out a gasp. She scrambled to throw off her blankets, hopped out of bed, and, slipping on her slippers, rushed to the bathroom to get ready.
About ten minutes later, Zhou Tongtong emerged from Building 3. Her hair was tied up in a bun, and she wore a backpack while sipping from a carton of milk.
Behind her, Xia Qing, dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jeans, followed at a brisk pace, fixing her hair as she walked.
"Little White, Little Black, good morning!" While Xia Qing went to the bike shed to get her electric scooter, Zhou Tongtong greeted the two little stray cats who were waiting for her in the greenery, just as they did every day.
"Why are you out so late today, Zhou Tongtong?" the little black cat meowed.
Zhou Tongtong gave an embarrassed smile. "I overslept."
"You need to be more careful next time, or you’ll be late," the little white cat said. "You can still make it to school if you leave now, though."
"I will." Zhou Tongtong nodded, crouching down in front of the two little strays to pet their heads.
"There’s something we need to tell you," the little white cat meowed. It squinted its eyes in comfort as Zhou Tongtong petted it, then seemed to remember what it wanted to say.
"What is it?" Zhou Tongtong asked, setting her empty milk carton on the ground as she continued to pet the two strays.
"There’s a black sedan parked on the street outside our complex," the little white cat began.
"It’s been there for several days now.
I don’t think the owner is a good person. You know how you humans have bad guys who kidnap kids? I wouldn’t be surprised if the owner is one of them. You need to be careful!"
"Huh?!" Zhou Tongtong hadn’t expected to hear something like this. Her round eyes went wide with surprise, her small mouth falling slightly open.
"That person doesn’t leave until ten or eleven o’clock at night.
And then they’re back again first thing in the morning," the little black cat added, its tone far more certain than Little White’s. "They’re definitely not a good person. They’re absolutely targeting the kids in our complex."
"Uh... okay, I get it. I’ll be careful." Seeing how seriously the two little cats were warning her, Zhou Tongtong took their words to heart and nodded.
Xia Qing wheeled the electric scooter out from the shed. When she turned to look for her daughter, she saw her chatting with the two little strays, just like any other day, and called out to her.
