I Tame Beasts by Feeding

Chapter 107 - 106: Spirit Beast Competition

Chapter 107: Chapter 106: Spirit Beast Competition

"Brother Yu, Brother Yu, do you think I have a chance of taming that blasted monkey this time?"

Fang Cai Feng approached Yu Changsheng with a wide grin and handed him a Spirit Stone.

Yu Changsheng accepted it without hesitation. ’Only a fool would turn down easy money.’

He nodded and said with a smile, "Be a little more careful this time. Don’t rush straight in. Have your Spirit Beast harass it from the side while you circle around and slowly wear it down. The moment it looks tired, you can use the Beast Taming Technique to attempt a contract."

"Don’t worry, I’ll be watching from the sidelines. Even if you fail again, you won’t be in any danger."

"Brother Yu, you’re a true friend!" Fang Cai Feng’s eyes filled with gratitude.

"You’re too kind. We’re both Outer Disciples of Beast Taming Peak; it’s only natural to help each other out." Yu Changsheng quickly waved his hand, then said, "You can go now, Brother Fang. May you succeed this time!"

"Alright! Just watch, Brother Yu!" Brimming with fighting spirit, Fang Cai Feng charged into the Wild Mountain Monkey’s rocky area, summoned his Flying Sand Dog, and launched his assault.

Lately, Fang Cai Feng had been visiting the Beast Garden frequently. It seemed he had a personal vendetta against this Wild Mountain Monkey, refusing to pick any other Spirit Beast and vowing to subdue it no matter what.

Through repeated encounters, they had grown familiar. Both the Wild Mountain Monkey and Yu Changsheng had come to understand him well.

’This guy sure is persistent. Not bad.’ Yu Changsheng glanced at the fight, thinking Fang Cai Feng had a good chance of successfully forming a contract this time.

"ROAR!"

The Wild Mountain Monkey tilted its head back and roared, slamming its fists on the ground to summon rows of Earth Spikes.

Under Fang Cai Feng’s command, the Flying Sand Dog instantly dodged the attack and kicked up a cloud of dust, blinding the Wild Mountain Monkey.

"Try my Earth Binding Skill!"

Fang Cai Feng shouted, forming a hand seal to cast the spell. Within the dust cloud, sand quickly gathered into the shape of a giant hand and pressed down toward the Wild Mountain Monkey.

The hand of sand pinned the Wild Mountain Monkey to the ground, leaving it unable to move.

With the Flying Sand Dog continuing to harass it, the Wild Mountain Monkey’s stamina was constantly being drained.

Finally, the Wild Mountain Monkey struggled a few times before turning its head in annoyance, looking as if it was ready to give up.

It had felt so tired during this time. Ever since this human had targeted it, he’d shown up every other day to harass it.

’Ugh, I guess I’ll just give in.’

"Heh heh, didn’t expect that, did you?"

Fang Cai Feng said smugly, his eyes crinkling with delight.

The Wild Mountain Monkey snorted and turned its head away.

"Stick with me, and I promise you won’t regret it. Don’t worry."

As Fang Cai Feng soothed and persuaded it, the Wild Mountain Monkey closed its eyes and accepted the soul imprint.

The contract was successful! Fang Cai Feng shouted ecstatically, "Brother Yu, Brother Yu, I succeeded!"

After drawing the Wild Mountain Monkey into his Inner Realm, he couldn’t wait to run over to Yu Changsheng. He threw his head back and laughed, "In the end, that blasted monkey was no match for my persistence, hahaha!"

"I saw you completed the contract. Congratulations. You finally got your wish."

Yu Changsheng said with a smile, clasping his hands in a formal gesture.

"Damn right! With this Wild Mountain Monkey, I’m sure I can place well in the Spirit Beast competition in a few days," Fang Cai Feng said with a grin.

Hearing this, Yu Changsheng asked with some confusion, "Spirit Beast competition? What’s that?"

"You don’t know, Brother Yu?" Fang Cai Feng looked at him in surprise.

Yu Changsheng shook his head.

Since arriving at Beast Taming Peak, his life had been a straight line between two points: the Beast Garden and the Spirit Chicken Garden. Besides the occasional trip to the Affairs Hall for a mission, he rarely went anywhere else. The only Outer Disciple he was familiar with was Fang Cai Feng.

He hadn’t kept in touch with any of the other Beast Taming Peak disciples who were promoted to the Outer Sect at the same time he was.

"Brother Yu, you live such a secluded life! You don’t even know about Beast Taming Peak’s annual Spirit Beast competition," Fang Cai Feng said, looking almost embarrassed on his behalf.

"The Spirit Beast competition is an annual contest designed to test us Outer Disciples. This year, it’s being held in Yuntai Valley, just behind the mountain."

"Outer Disciples like us have to participate every year to earn Cultivation Resources. If you perform well, you might even be noticed by a Foundation Establishment Great Power or a Golden Core True Master and be taken on as a disciple!"

"But that’s incredibly difficult. You have to be one of the top performers to even have a chance, so it’s a true test of your overall skill and ability to adapt," Fang Cai Feng said with a sigh.

"Brother Yu, don’t be fooled by the small number of new disciples Beast Taming Peak takes in each year. A lot of senior disciples have built up over the years, and many of them are just coasting, holding onto their spots without advancing."

"In terms of their foundation, they’re much stronger than we are. Several of them are at the Qi Refining Peak and are already planning their promotion to Inner Sect Disciple."

Yu Changsheng frowned, surprised that Beast Taming Peak had this kind of competition, and asked,

"Then what does this competition entail?"

"The Spirit Beast competition is divided into two rounds. The first is an elimination round. Everyone has to find a Cloud Platform within Yuntai Valley and hold it for the time it takes an incense stick to burn in order to pass."

"This requires coordination with your Spirit Beast and also a good deal of luck. With bad luck, you can easily get surrounded, and then your only option is to run for it," Fang Cai Feng explained, laying out the rules.

"As for the second round, it’s typically held half a month later to give the Beast Masters and their Spirit Beasts plenty of time to rest and recover from any injuries. That round consists of one-on-one battles."

"Sometimes you get unlucky and face a Beast Master whose Spirit Beast has an elemental advantage over yours, and you’re eliminated in a single match. Other times, if you’re lucky enough, you can practically sleepwalk your way into the top three."

"But luck is an essential part of cultivation, so you never know. Besides, the Spirit Beast competition happens every year, giving new disciples plenty of opportunities."

As he spoke, a smile suddenly spread across Fang Cai Feng’s face.

"If you place in the top three, not only do you get a chance to be taken as a disciple by a Golden Core True Master, but you also get to choose the corpse of any Spirit Beast from a Tier Three Race or lower as a reward. It can be used to refine Magical Artifacts or to nurture your own Spirit Beast."

At these words, Yu Changsheng’s eyes lit up.

He was in dire need of a high-bloodline Spirit Beast for materials. His Red Refining Snake had been stuck, unable to break through, and despite checking the Ten Thousand Beasts Tower several times, he hadn’t found any suitable bloodlines.

As for the Ten Thousand Beasts Secret Realm, it was only a Tier One Secret Realm, so the Spirit Beasts within were all quite common.

But here on Beast Taming Peak, there just might be the high-level bloodline he needed!

"I see. In that case, I’ll go sign up when I have a moment," Yu Changsheng said with a nod.

"You’d better hurry with the registration, Brother Yu. It might close in two days. Why not head to the Affairs Hall and sign up today, just to be safe?"

"I’m pretty curious about your true strength, Brother Yu. Haha, I hope I run into you during the competition," Fang Cai Feng said with a loud laugh.

Yu Changsheng thought to himself.

’No, you really don’t.’

The two chatted for a while longer. Once Yu Changsheng had a clear grasp of the competition rules, Fang Cai Feng waved goodbye and left.

As Yu Changsheng arrived at the Affairs Hall, he heard a commotion from within. It sounded like an argument, with one man’s voice shouting aggressively.

"You couldn’t keep your Snow Leopard Beast in your Inner Realm? Did you let it out just so it could get itself killed?!"

"Let me tell you, trash like you are just wasting everyone’s time by entering the competition. Why don’t you just get lost!"
