I Tame Beasts by Feeding

Chapter 111 - 109: I Still Have a Chance

Chapter 111: Chapter 109: I Still Have a Chance

Yuntai Valley, nestled within the Cloud Mist Mountain Range, was shrouded in mist year-round. The fog would only thin for a short while at noon, revealing the entrance. Otherwise, anyone trying to enter at other times would easily lose their way, wandering in circles outside, unable to find a path into the valley.

A total of sixty-nine Beast Masters were participating in the Spirit Beast competition. Among them were several at the Qi Refining Peak and about half were at the Late-stage Qi Refining. The rest were weaker Cultivators at Mid-stage Qi Refining, hoping to rely on their beasts and try their luck.

Since the Spirit Beast competition primarily tested one’s Beast Taming abilities, and because the Beast Taming Peak had few disciples, such competitions rarely posed a threat to the Cultivators’ lives. The few Elders supporting the event would also keep an eye on things.

"Alright, time’s up. The first round of the competition begins. You may all enter," the white-bearded Elder said calmly, his eyes half-open.

"Hahaha, I’m getting excited!" Fang Cai Feng said, rubbing his hands together in anticipation as he watched the Beast Masters ahead enter one by one. "Brother Yu, want to team up once we’re inside? With me around, I can protect you for a while."

Yu Changsheng smiled and said, "No need. You should just worry about yourself."

"There are quite a few Spirit Fruits in this Yuntai Valley that only grow in special environments. If we’re lucky, we might even be able to pick some." Fang Cai Feng then turned to Mu Zeyu beside him and asked.

"Junior Brother Mu, I heard you have a conflict with that Lei Kai. What are your plans once we’re inside?"

"He’s at the Qi Refining Eighth Layer, you know, and he has a Tier One Peak Spirit Beast. It won’t be good if he catches you."

"The Spirit Beast competition rules may forbid killing, but accidents happen in fights all the time. Every year, there are a few cases of people being critically injured, having their Dantian shattered, or their Cultivation crippled. Why don’t you come with me? We can watch each other’s backs."

Hearing this, Mu Zeyu was touched, but he still shook his head. "Thank you, Senior Brother Fang, but I’d just be a burden to you all. I’ll go on my own. With my Hidden Heart Fox, I won’t be caught so easily."

Fang Cai Feng thought for a moment. ’That’s true. The Hidden Heart Fox is a master at concealing auras, and its Talent Skills can even help a Cultivator hide along with it. Unless someone’s Divine Sense is powerful enough to see right through its concealment, it really would be hard to find him.’

"Alright, then be careful!" Fang Cai Feng said. He then turned to Yu Changsheng with a loud laugh.

"Brother Yu, I’m heading in first! Just watch me seize the Cloud Platform!"

With that, Fang Cai Feng’s figure vanished into the mist ahead.

The mist in Yuntai Valley had thinned considerably, but once inside, both sight and Divine Sense were still affected. This also gave everyone a chance to avoid powerful enemies and head for the outer regions.

"I’m off, then," Mu Zeyu said his goodbyes and went in as well.

Yu Changsheng glanced behind him and saw Lei Kai staring at him with a mocking expression, as if waiting for him to go in first so they could enter together.

’Has the hatred been transferred to me now?’ Yu Changsheng chuckled, then stepped into the mist.

The mist, which severely limited others, was practically nonexistent to Yu Changsheng’s Divine Sense.

’That guy Fang Cai Feng has gone off course. He’s taking the long way around.’

’Oh well, let him wander for a bit. It might keep him from getting eliminated right after he’s gone in.’

’Mu Zeyu is interesting. Is this the Hidden Heart Fox’s Talent Magic? His aura is faint. Even a Qi Refining Peak expert would have a hard time finding him in this mist.’

’Everyone else has scattered. Miao Wenlun... that guy gives me a dangerous feeling. Better to avoid him.’

Yu Changsheng focused his Divine Sense on the distant Miao Wenlun for a moment, then turned and headed in the direction with the fewest Qi Refining Peak experts.

And behind him, he spotted Lei Kai’s figure. An involuntary smile touched his lips, and he slowed his pace.

’I’ll wait for you. Wouldn’t want you to get lost.’

Like an angler, Yu Changsheng let out his aura bit by bit, reeling Lei Kai in toward him.

’Merely Qi Refining Eighth Layer, the same realm as me. I really don’t know where he gets the nerve to come looking for trouble. Since you’re so eager, I’ll just have to eliminate you first!’

Yu Changsheng said silently to himself, then walked out of the mist.

Yuntai Valley contained many different environments, such as forests, swamps, wetlands, hot rock zones, and glaciers. The number of Demon Beasts living inside was relatively small, and unlike in the Ten Thousand Beasts Secret Realm, they didn’t gather in groups. Most lived solitarily, each occupying its own territory.

The area Yu Changsheng had walked into was near a glacier. The surrounding plants were coated in frost, and the air was frigid. Just by standing there, a layer of white frost had already formed on his boots.

Fortunately, as a cultivator, he could use his Magical Power to ward off the cold, unlike ordinary mortals who would be shivering uncontrollably.

’The temperature in this area is really low. I wonder what kind of Demon Beast lives here.’ Yu Changsheng was waiting for someone and wasn’t in a hurry to move on, so he took his time to carefully sense his surroundings.

After waiting for a few minutes, Yu Changsheng finally withdrew his gaze and looked back toward the mist. A figure was walking out of it, heading his way.

"So slow," Yu Changsheng muttered.

"Hahaha, kid, I’ve got you now!"

Lei Kai was riding a giant wolf with blue markings. Seeing Yu Changsheng all alone, he roared excitedly, "Today, I’ll show you the consequences of offending me! Silver Howling Wolf, kill him!"

Beneath Lei Kai, the Tier One Peak Silver Howling Wolf let out a low roar. The surrounding trees instantly snapped as a sonic wave rolled toward Yu Changsheng.

’A soundwave attack.’

Yu Changsheng’s expression remained calm. He had already prepared himself the moment the Silver Howling Wolf opened its mouth to gather power for its Talent Magic. His figure flickered and vanished from his original spot.
