I Tame Beasts by Feeding

Chapter 480: Chapter 347: My Poor, Ill-Fated Senior Martial Brother
After the Purple Child swallowed a few Elixirs, Yu Changsheng could clearly feel its attitude toward him soften considerably. The little face that had been nuzzling against him relaxed, and its gaze, though still wary, held far less suspicion than before.
’Just as I thought. When dealing with a kid, all you have to do is give them candy.’
Yu Changsheng sighed inwardly and let out a sly grin. When the Purple Child wasn’t looking, he gently pinched its right cheek again. This earned him a fierce glare, and the little one puffed up its cheeks in a pout, but it didn’t say anything.
It’s hard to be tough on someone after taking their gifts. That principle worked just as well on children.
As Yu Changsheng pondered, his mind raced.
’This Spiritual Purple Bamboo Essence is clearly a special existence within this Purple Bamboo Forest. It’s protected by the entire forest. Even though its power is only comparable to a Late-stage Golden Core cultivator—a fight I should theoretically be able to win...’
’...But...’ Yu Changsheng’s thoughts trailed off. He threw a subtle glance at the innocent-looking Purple Child, then took out two more Elixirs and offered them. Only after the child took them did he let out a heavy sigh.
’...But if I really tried to make a move on it, this entire Purple Bamboo Forest would probably go berserk in an instant. I’d die a miserable death.’
At this thought, Yu Changsheng once again glanced discreetly at the surrounding Purple Bamboo Forest and sighed helplessly in his heart.
’So, the hard approach is out. I’ll have to use the soft one.’
Yu Changsheng knew full well that this Purple Bamboo Forest possessed Spiritual Wisdom. The common Purple Bamboo, which seemed to be everywhere, was actually the greatest threat on Purple Bamboo Mountain due to its sheer, overwhelming numbers.
These Purple Bamboos were man-eating. Although for some reason they currently bore him no ill will and had allowed him to walk here unimpeded, if he were to make any move against the Purple Child... things would be very different.
With these thoughts in mind, Yu Changsheng gently shook his head, his smile becoming even more amiable. Suppressing the heartache of giving away his Elixirs, he continued to feed the Purple Child while speaking in the calmest, most composed voice he could manage.
"You’ve eaten so many of my Elixirs, little one. How about this? You let me stay here for a bit and open a certain place for me. When I’m done, I’ll give you lots and lots more Elixirs to eat, okay?"
Yu Changsheng spoke softly, a gentle smile on his face. He looked exactly like a kidnapper luring a child with candy.
Who would have thought that upon hearing this, the Purple Child would immediately leap up vigilantly. With a wave of its hand, the Purple Bamboo stalk that Yu Changsheng had sent flying shot back into its grasp. It pointed the stalk at Yu Changsheng, its guard raised.
A hostile look appeared on its little face. Pouting, it said huffily in its childish voice,
"Cunning human! Don’t think I don’t know you’re after the Sword Cliff! Even though I can’t open the cave-dwelling within, I can’t just hand it over to you."
Hearing this, Yu Changsheng was stunned for a moment before a headache set in. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, then dangled the Elixir in his hand before the Purple Child’s eyes. "Well," he said in a tempting tone,
"if you know you can’t open it, what’s the point in guarding it? Besides, look here. Aren’t my Elixirs delicious?"
The Purple Child’s gaze fell upon the Elixir in Yu Changsheng’s hand. A look of longing flickered in its eyes, and it swallowed hard, trying to appear nonchalant. Despite its internal struggle, it still shook its head firmly.
"No. This is my property. No one can take it."
With that, it shot Yu Changsheng a sideways glance. A flick of its little hand knocked Yu Changsheng’s hand, the one holding the Elixir, downward. Then it tilted its head, crossed its arms, and looked away, though it continued to sneak glances at Yu Changsheng out of the corner of its eye.
"You little..."
The corner of Yu Changsheng’s mouth twitched. He waved his hand in resignation, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Gritting his teeth, he slowly exhaled. A look of grief and anger suddenly washed over his face as he began to speak.
"That’s not it at all! You may be cute, but that doesn’t mean you can be so unreasonable, right?!"
Seeing he had the Purple Child’s full attention, Yu Changsheng raised an eyebrow and continued.
"You say this place is yours? How can you prove it?! In fact, this is the cave-dwelling left behind by my senior brother! We shared the same master! He was like a blood brother to me!"
"The reason you can’t open this cave-dwelling is simple—because my senior brother left it for *me*. Of course you can’t open it if you don’t have the key!"
Yu Changsheng puffed out his chest. As he spoke, he looked straight into the Purple Child’s eyes, his expression utterly self-righteous.
He was trying to reason with the Purple Child. And, in a way, Yu Changsheng wasn’t even lying. While the cave-dwelling hadn’t been left specifically for him, Cao Jinxian was, in fact, his senior brother.
"Senior brother? You’re saying your senior brother left this?"
Sure enough, the Purple Child was taken aback, staring blankly at Yu Changsheng.
"That’s right!"
Yu Changsheng thumped his chest adamantly. His expression then shifted to one of grief and indignation as he pointed at the Purple Child, his face a mask of profound sorrow.
"And now, you won’t even let me see the place my senior brother left for me! You may be cute, and kind, and a good kid, but you can’t just bully me like this!"
"My senior brother’s last belongings are in there! I never even got to see him one last time! And now, you won’t even let me see what he left behind? How can you be so cruel!"
