Chapter 504: Chapter 359: The Fifth Tamed Beast
"Hm?"
Yu Changsheng raised an eyebrow. A hopeful expression bloomed on his face as he naturally stood up, gathering the Purple Child into his arms. He looked at the Sui Xian Sword Spirit and asked tentatively,
"Then... Senior, is it possible for you to bend the rules, to make an exception for us? We would be eternally grateful!"
As Yu Changsheng held him, the Purple Child’s body stiffened for a moment, but he didn’t struggle. He leaned naturally into Yu Changsheng’s embrace, also looking at the Sui Xian Sword Spirit with a hopeful expression.
The Sui Xian Sword Spirit rubbed the bridge of its nose, its gaze flickering indecisively. It glanced from Yu Changsheng to the Purple Child, and finally let out a long sigh. Shaking its head in resignation, it said,
"Unfortunately, the rules absolutely cannot be broken. It has been this way since ancient times. Those who rashly break the rules never meet a good end."
As it spoke the second half of this sentence, the Sui Xian Sword Spirit’s tone softened. It seemed to casually glance toward Yu Changsheng, a hint of amusement deep in its eyes.
"Ah?"
Yu Changsheng’s expression fell, his disappointment palpable. He bit his lip lightly, his eyes filled with unwillingness and defiance. Just as he was about to speak, he heard the Sui Xian Sword Spirit continue,
"However, seeing how sincere your feelings are, and since you have already passed the trial as the inheritor, I can’t very well let you perish here."
The Sui Xian Sword Spirit’s tone was heavy with a sigh, and it sighed again, its expression full of resignation.
"But to have you stand by and do nothing... with your personality, since you value friendship more than your own life, that’s even more impossible. I have but one solution that can resolve this issue and ensure you both remain safe."
"What is it? Senior, tell me quickly!"
Yu Changsheng’s eyes lit up as he pressed on, his voice filled with impatience.
The Purple Child’s eyes also widened slightly, looking at the Sui Xian Sword Spirit in anticipation.
The Sui Xian Sword Spirit gave an unreadable smile, shook its head lightly, and said with lowered eyes, "According to the rules, only the inheritor who passed the trial can leave. Since this little one failed, it’s impossible in principle to let him off the hook."
"However, if he and you are considered a single entity—as one—then there would be no problem."
"Senior, what... what do you mean by that?"
Yu Changsheng asked in confusion. The Purple Child was also baffled, staring at the Sui Xian Sword Spirit.
The Sui Xian Sword Spirit chuckled, waving its hand dismissively with a slight pout as it explained concisely,
"My meaning is simple. One of you is human, the other is a Spirit Beast. As long as this little one is willing to sign a Spirit Beast Contract with you, the two of you will be considered as one. After all, you would share the same source and essence."
The Sui Xian Sword Spirit coughed lightly, then once again shot a subtle glance at Yu Changsheng and said nonchalantly,
"After all, once a Spirit Beast Contract is signed, the two parties are bound together, sharing life and death. It’s not an exaggeration to call them a single person, so it would also be acceptable under the rules."
At this point, the Sui Xian Sword Spirit bit its tongue, so faintly it was imperceptible. It maintained a calm expression and continued in a serious tone,
"It’s just... it might be a poor deal for you, Yu Changsheng. With your talent, and with the arrangements I have made for you, you could have signed a Contract with a much more powerful Fifth-rank Spirit Beast—the Bloodthirsty Ink Abyss Dragon. The boost it could give you would far exceed this little one’s.
Once you decide to sign the Spirit Beast Contract with him, with your current Cultivation, you won’t be able to support a Contract with another Fifth-rank Spirit Beast. And the Bloodthirsty Ink Abyss Dragon is already in a remnant soul state; it won’t be long before it dissipates completely.
"So, Yu Changsheng, you must think clearly. Is it really worth it? To risk your life for this little one, and furthermore, to give up a heaven-sent opportunity like the Bloodthirsty Ink Abyss Dragon just to ensure his safety?"
The Sui Xian Sword Spirit practically spoke these last words through gritted teeth, its tone heavy. To an unwitting listener, it would seem as if it was extremely unwilling to let Yu Changsheng do this. In its heart, however, a storm of curses was brewing, and it secretly sent a mental transmission,
’Damn it, you black-bellied brat! You’re too damn smart! What the hell are these lines? I’m impressed. Are you even human?’
Yu Changsheng mentally wiped away a cold sweat and muttered in response, ’Senior, I had no choice! Since we’re already putting on an act, we have to go all the way. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely treat him well.’
’You’d better, or I’ll be the first to chop you to death.’
The Sui Xian Sword Spirit cursed internally, then quietly turned its head to look at the bewildered Purple Child. It couldn’t help but turn away again, a sudden, complex mix of guilt, pity, and reluctance filling its heart.
Even with all the experience the Sui Xian Sword Spirit had gained over its long existence, and all the people it had met, it had to admit that someone as thick-skinned as Yu Changsheng was a real eye-opener.
It was fucking impressed!
This entire secret conversation happened in the span of a single thought. So, in the Purple Child’s eyes, just as the Sui Xian Sword Spirit finished speaking and before he could even react, Yu Changsheng waved his hand decisively and said without a moment’s hesitation,
"Senior, say no more! Of course, I’m willing! What does this count for? If my friend is gone, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. My conscience would be wracked with guilt, and I would surely regret it!"
Yu Changsheng thumped his chest heavily, his face a mask of profound sincerity.
"Ah..."
The Purple Child was once again moved, staring blankly at Yu Changsheng. He met Yu Changsheng’s sincere gaze and was about to speak, but was stopped by a look from him. All that remained was a warm current flowing through him, a feeling that lingered long after.
