Dear readers,

Thank you for staying with me and with Alexa on her journey through the difficult and turbulent life she has found herself living.

Her story ends in Act 3 at a point where she has quite a serious problem on her hands—and in her soul—as well as a whole lot of people around and in her, not all of whom are actually her!

She spent most of the act feeling like a persona non grata, by the end, everyone she managed to save is definitely grateful that she was there when they needed her.

Even though I had a lot of fun writing this story, I’m aware that it has many shortcomings I’d like to fix before moving forward, and I need some time for that. So, with the end of this act, I’m entering a revision and editing phase before I sit down to continue the story.

There’s quite a lot I want to change—including expanding Act 1 so everything there doesn’t feel so rushed. I’d also like to rethink Soulmarks a little and turn them into something more like meaningful events, people, or traits that leave a mark on the soul, rather than objects from which something is extracted.

I also feel like my prose improved significantly as I kept writing this story, and I now look back at the way I wrote at the beginning with considerable difficulty and reluctance, so that will be getting revised too.

NovelPhoenix is the author's publishing site for this chapter, while the text here was copied without consent.

Because of that, I don’t know when the next chapter will come out. It’s difficult for me to say or promise anything right now.

At the same time, if anyone has questions about some element of the story, or would like me to spoil a little of what I have planned for later, feel free to ask. I’ll try to answer in a way that doesn’t ruin the entire story.

And finally, I wanted to let you know that I’ve started publishing a second story, where the main character shares a first and last name with this heroine, but is very definitely a different person, and his story is significantly different from hers.

I’d love for all of you, my dear readers, to give that story a try, even if only to see whether you find it as interesting as this one. I have a lot of fun creating characters, their backstories, and their personalities, and that setting—where parallel Earths play a key role—lets me use my imagination in ways I couldn’t really do here. The beginning is a little more difficult, because Alexander and his fiery companion spend a dozen or so chapters practically alone together, but once more characters begin appearing, you’ll be staying with them for quite a while, and I’m very curious what you’ll think of them.

The story also contains quite a few Easter eggs referencing Alexa’s story.

Whew. I ended up writing a lot more than I expected.

I love you all for spending so much time with me. I’m taking a short break from Alexa so that later I can return to writing her adventures with twice the energy.

I’ll let you know how things are going.
