Chapter 930: Chapter 929: Extra 3 – When You Smile in the Sun, I Surrender

The dishes are served.

Mu Zhi got a bottle of wine and poured a glass for Cheng Zhirang and Zhou Jilin.

“Jiling still has to drive home, so just a sip will do. Xiao Cheng, can you drink?”

Cheng Zhirang placed a separately fried egg in Mu Qiu’s bowl, sat down, and nodded, “I can drink a little, Uncle.”

He sat together with Mu Qiu, the ring on his left hand and the diamond ring on Mu Qiu’s hand close together, which was dazzling to look at.

Mu Zhi’s intention to be objective was immediately lost.

Someone stirring up his precious cabbage is never a good person.

The chopsticks had barely moved before the back-and-forth at the dining table began.

“Xiao Cheng, does your parents know about your proposal?” Mu Zhi asked.

Cheng Zhirang was always very earnest when answering questions from elders, listening carefully before responding seriously, making him seem very sincere.

“They found out later, but they were very happy. As soon as the show ended, they called Qiuqiu and me to invite us for dinner.”

Yuan Chun made a polite remark: “Really, it’s trouble for your family to host another meal.”

“It’s nothing. My mom really likes Qiuqiu, they often eat together… without me.”

Mu Qiu raised her orchid fingers while sipping soup, “That’s because you’re at work.”

Yuan Chun asked again, “I just heard Qiuqiu mention you guys discussed marriage…”

Cheng Zhirang put down the bowl and chopsticks, and said seriously, “I’ve talked to my parents about this too. We’ll get married according to Qiuqiu’s preferences. She said next year, so we’ll wait till next year, which gives us more time to plan the wedding.”

Hey, hey, hey? Are the priorities miscommunicated?

What she said was clearly to wait until next year to see if she wants to step into marriage, not to start preparing from today.

This person’s ability to twist concepts is getting stronger.

She sneaked a glance at him, her eyes complicated and expression wistful.

Zhou Jilin joined the conversation.

“Next year sounds good too; it’s also good for you to continue to be together for another year first. Mu Qiu is still young and needs time to adapt.”

Just a moment ago, Mu Zhi was unhappy, but now he was only nodding: “Yes, she’s still young, extending the adaptation period is the best. How about you guys? Sister Su Jin’s belly is getting big; have you discussed when to hold the wedding?”

If this question had been asked two months ago, Su Jin and Zhou Jilin hadn’t fully reconciled yet, it would have been awkward. But now it’s no longer an issue.

Zhou Jilin laughed and answered, “We are also planning for next year, waiting for the baby to be born, and then see what kind of wedding she wants. It’s not safe now with the big belly.”

Yuan Chun nodded: “You should be careful, pregnant women have a tough time. Su Jin, eat more, look at this, three-four months and still so thin.”

“It’s a matter of physique, Master, I’ve been eating quite a bit lately.” Su Jin answered amicably.

“You call this eating a lot, Sister Su Jin? You’ve only eaten two mouthfuls of rice. Brother Lin, you ought to frequently go home and make some loving lunchboxes; Sister Su Jin only eats the fish you make.”

Mu Qiu was observant, like a landlady supervising a renovation crew on a house—she must ensure the broken mirror story ends beautifully.

Su Jin felt a bit embarrassed, pulling her hand back when she was about to reach for the fish.

Zhou Jilin helped her by placing the fish back in her bowl.

Mu Zhi disapprovingly looked at Mu Qiu: “You speak lightly, Jiling has work to get busy with. When you’re pregnant, will you have Xiao Cheng accompany you every day?”

He finished speaking and was glared at by Yuan Chun.

Speaking of pregnancy before marriage, what if she really brought back a grandchild?!

Mu Qiu was not bothered at all; she scooped up some minced meat and green peas with a spoon, lazily saying:

“If I’m pregnant, of course he would have to accompany me at home. His work isn’t like Jiling’s, who’s busy all year long. He only makes one movie a year for a few months; the rest of the time he’s mostly at home. If he doesn’t accompany me, what’s the point?”

She’s being too domineering. Yuan Chun glared at her again, saying to Cheng Zhirang:

“Don’t listen to her nonsense, Xiao Cheng.”

“It’s not entirely so,” Cheng Zhirang smiled gently, gracefully, “My work is special; when filming, there may be months we can’t meet, but remaining time indeed allows me to be at home every day.”

Su Jin laughed: “This is only for celebrities like you, I see other stars are so busy; before I’ve seen a celebrity hospitalized from over-exhaustion.”

But his situation wouldn’t work well either; Mu Qiu might manage not seeing Cheng Zhirang for months, but she couldn’t handle not seeing Zhou Jilin for that long. Rather than this kind of work, she prefers Zhou Jilin to be busy with his own work, where at least he can come home daily.

She spoke actively, and Cheng Zhirang replied politely, watching Zhou Jilin carefully attend to her dining, meticulously picking out fish bones, he looked down with a smile, casually serving Mu Qiu some dishes.

The meal went smoothly overall, Cheng Zhirang had a few glasses of wine, with a fragrance of alcohol emanating from him.

After cleaning up, Zhou Jilin was planning to leave; Mu Qiu greeted her mom and also went out with Cheng Zhirang.

The summer night arrived late, now it was only twilight.

She took him to her previous high school, originally planning just to visit the university where her parents worked. However, universities are bustling at night with students chasing celebrities more frantically than high schoolers. If Cheng Zhirang got spotted, they might block the field.

So they headed to the high school instead; the students were in evening self-study, hardly anyone was out.

They merely walked around the field, talking about her high school days.

“During high school, I was recognized as a young talent by our class teacher; I won prizes in literature competitions time after time, everyone enjoyed reading my essays.”

“That made me so inflated, totally ignorant of the heights. So I embarked on writing confidently in college — but made no splash at all, all went belly-up.”

“My confidence was severely hit, lying in bed puzzled over the whys. At that time I told readers I would take two months off for a quest for life’s truths — planning to travel a bit just to resign myself to find a job.”

“And then the surprise came.”

“However, during high school, I was all about studying, never had time for love, but in my writings, my loves evolved at the speed of one a day hahaha.”

“Thinking back now, maybe our high school lacked the kind of campus heartthrobs that appear in novels. If you were the heartthrob back then in our school, I might have gone moth-to-fire, fully indulging in romance.”

Cheng Zhirang listened with a mild smile, hearing her out, then hmmed and said, “If you appeared in my high school, I would have fully indulged in romance too.”

Mu Qiu didn’t believe: “No way, I’m not the world’s most beautiful girl, how could you have fallen for the high school me? The script should be me spotting you, awestruck, then secretly harboring a crush pursuing till winning you over.”

He shook his head: “No secret crushes needed.”

“Just one smile of yours in the sunlight, and I would be conquered.”
