Chapter 938: Chapter 937: Side Story 11 – Camping 4
Cheng Surname Brother was in high spirits, taking many starry sky photos, as they excitedly reviewed them together with their heads close.
“It’s so beautiful, I simply can’t find words to do it justice. Shall we select a few photos, and print them later to make travel mementos?”
Cheng Zhirang nodded in agreement: “We could use a wall to draw a map and pin these photos on it. You can write something on sticky notes and put them up too. Or use an album or a journal to record them.”
That sounded great, Mu Qiuguang thought to herself about filling up a travel diary one day, and felt immensely happier.
She stepped back slightly, tiptoed, and kissed him on the cheek—the area was pitch-black, and he wasn’t fully geared up.
Cheng Zhirang raised an eyebrow: “A reward?”
“Yes, a love reward!”
She jumped up, got hugged tightly by him, hanging onto him like a fluffy cat.
“Let’s go, we’ve taken plenty, time to sleep.”
Cheng Zhirang listened to her, hung the camera around her neck, and carried her back to the tent.
It’s genuinely cold on the high mountain at night in winter, her excitement couldn’t bring warmth, not even with two pairs of thick socks and furry snow boots; her feet remained cold. Warm clothing and blankets just reduce heat loss but don’t create heat.
However, having a man by your side makes a difference.
Mu Qiu took off her shoes and snuggled into Cheng Zhirang’s embrace, letting him unzip her jacket and slide a thin cotton cloth behind her back to wipe it gently.
“In weather and temperatures like this, it’s best not to sweat, as sweating can take away your body’s heat and make you prone to catching a cold or losing temperature.”
She stayed still but couldn’t help saying: “This gives me a strange feeling. Like a granny chasing her grandson in the park to tuck a towel behind his back.”
Cheng Zhirang paused.
She quickly added earnestly, “I mean, you seem really good with kids.”
Cheng Zhirang chuckled: “You’ve said that many times.”
Besides that comment, there wasn’t much else to say, he continued checking her sweating situation, then helped her take off her heavy coat, and patted her:
“Sleep, set a five o’clock alarm.”
Instead of tossing the coat aside, he covered her with it again, and from his backpack took out a solid black bag, shook out a thin down jacket from it.
This jacket was so thin it could be compacted into a small bundle, very light, and was a long style that reached the ankles, with strong warmth retention.
After covering her with the down jacket, he lay down as well.
With a sleeping bag and two layers of clothing, the cold should be kept at bay, Cheng Zhirang didn’t take off his clothes, sleeping beside her, they kept each other warm with their body heat.
Sharing a bed isn’t novel, but this experience felt different, Mu Qiuguang nestled into his arms, as the jacket’s hood was pulled down over her, she felt enveloped in warmth, with the clean fragrance from him soothing her.
He rarely uses cologne, but he once endorsed a luxury perfume brand, leaving some cologne gift sets at home, which she dug out, found a special one, and sprayed it on his wrist.
She’s not a professional, couldn’t describe its top, middle, and base notes but sensed an occasional fresh grapefruit sweet scent, transitioning to a subtle pinewood aroma later.
This made him seem like a juicy grapefruit when walking, enticingly fragrant.
In this warm fragrance-filled environment, she quickly fell asleep.
It was indeed two o’clock midnight, her biological clock wouldn’t allow her to stay awake any longer.
However, the sleep didn’t last long, seemingly just after closing her eyes, the five o’clock alarm sounded, swiftly silenced by Cheng Zhirang, yet still waking her.
In the quiet darkness, she still dazedly whispered: “Is it five o’clock already?”
“Yes.”
Cheng Zhirang cleared his throat, sat up, seeing her hair all messy, her cheeks flushed, gently asked: “Do you want to keep sleeping? I could just take pictures by the tent.”
“Absolutely not.”
She untangled her hair, casually rolled it, and fixed it at the back of her head with a clip, then started putting on her jacket.
“Scenery should be witnessed with one’s eyes, relying on photos would mean staying home waiting for you to come back from travels alone. Where’s mouthwash and wipes? It’s so dark, I can’t see.”
Cheng Zhirang tapped open a small light, under its soft glow, found the items and handed them to her.
“Then, let’s watch from the tent entrance? This spot offers a view of the sunrise.”
“That works.”
After tidying up, Cheng Zhirang unzipped the tent, cold air rushed in, causing her to shiver.
“Wow, they all got their spots too, so proactive!”
The pair grabbed small stools, sat side by side at the tent entrance, zipped it closed again, rubbing their hands waiting for the sunrise moment.
Cheng Zhirang took out a survival kit nut crisp cookie for her, lowered his head, adjusting his camera.
Mu Qiu broke off a piece of the cookie to feed him, eyes fixated on the horizon far away.
“I think it’s about to come out, the sky’s looking a bit blue over there.”
Sunrise watching can’t afford little misses, a moment of cookie nibbling might watch the sun leap out suddenly, skipping any transition.
Thus, she stared while eating, anxious not to miss it.
An apricot-red glow started peeking through.
The sky at the horizon first had a hint of blue, illuminating the clouds swirling around distant mountains, followed by a brilliant apricot-red emerging unevenly through the cloud cover.
It appears as just a line between blue and black yet resembles fiery flames, scattering the clouds and dispelling the long-lasting night, turning more clouds apricot-red, and getting closer, the sky faded into blue-white.
Then, golden rays spread out, unveiling the distant mountains’ silhouette. Subsequently, that edge of apricot spread, becoming a stretch, like a sea surface with varying shades.
Gradually, more areas in the sky were brushed with apricot radiance, a half glaring orb emerged at the horizon.
The sun rises in the east, dispelling the night, bringing light to earth and sky, urging distant mountains, nearby waters, trees and flowers to awaken from their nightly slumber.
Then, the mountain shrouded by clouds gained vibrant colors, Snow Mountain peaks adorned with a “golden milk cover”.
Mu Qiu widened her eyes, quietly watching, utterly speechless. Cheng Zhirang said nothing either, peacefully taking photos, when done, he sat beside her quietly appreciating the awe-inspiring scene.
No wonder so many wish to witness mountain sunrises and seaside sunsets, truly magnificent. Without coming to such places, one cannot truly experience the exquisite changes of nature.
