I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World
Chapter 156: Making a Fortune with Game Ideas
While Matrim talked about his past, Magna also shared a few memories about what he had been through.
Not seeing any reason to keep it a secret, he even talked about how he had been abandoned by his mother and grown up in a cave until Winterborne family found and adopted him.
"So you really grew up in a cave." Matrim didn’t look very surprised. Instead, he looked quite sorry for him.
Magna couldn’t help but chuckle seeing Matrim look at him with pity.
At least the goblin who had found and raised him was a good monster, even more of a mother than many others. So he could say he had grown up with love, unlike Matrim, who had only known torture from his family.
Matrim even offered that once they were done with their trial, he would ask his family for help finding the family who had left Magna to die outside.
Though he was seen as a weapon by his family, he apparently still had enough value in their eyes to help him with a small matter like this.
Magna just nodded, appreciating the brotherly thought behind it.
Either way, even if no one helped, he would still find the family himself. There were only 20 or so families in total around the Black Forest, and he already remembered the direction he had drifted in the river until Mother Goblin found him.
’It must be one of the enemy alliance.’ He thought quietly, bringing the location of the river on the map to mind.
It made him remember the impending war between the two alliances again, so he brought up a question that had been on his mind.
He first told Matrim about the resource war going on in the territory, mentioning that the Winterborne family would also have to participate before asking.
"How far do these kinds of fights go? I mean, does the Tower have any rules about Witches and Shadows killing each other like this?"
He had been wondering about some of the rules in this world for a while, wanting to know if there was some kind of legal system that prevented things like murder and theft.
Matrim thought for a moment before answering.
"Well, the Tower usually doesn’t interfere much in conflicts between families. Of course, that’s as long as it doesn’t turn into a mindless massacre or an event that would harm society as a whole."
Magna asked what kind of harm he meant, so Matrim gave him an example from the past.
"There was once a family that found out about magic and artifact development experiments being carried out on the local people in their territory. So far, it wasn’t a problem, since the Tower doesn’t care much about the lives of ordinary people as long as the Witch is using people from her own territory. But later, when they gained more power, they started attacking Witch Families in nearby territories and using them as experiments, killing them in the process.
That was when, after they massacred 4 Witch Families, the Tower finally stepped in, seized all their assets, and sent the Family Head on long-term, difficult missions as punishment."
The way he told the story so casually, like it was an ordinary event, made Magna quite uncomfortable.
Learning that ordinary people didn’t even have basic rights to life, and that the family only received punishment after other Witches became involved, felt quite unfair, honestly.
In short, aside from such cases, even if conflicts between Witches over resources ended in deaths, no one really cared as long as the number of Witch deaths didn’t cross a certain limit or turn into a massacre where many families were killed.
Having gained more understanding of the rules and regulations surrounding wars in this world, the rest of the conversation moved on to simpler topics, such as training methods and fighting techniques they shared with each other.
At this point in the conversation, Matrim was the one who benefited more from it. Every time Magna talked about a training method or technique, he gave so much detail that it was quite shocking to hear.
Some of the ideas he casually talked about were even better than the methods Rockford had developed and perfected over the years.
The one he liked the most was the game Magna talked about called ’Basketball.’
Though Magna had explained that basketball wouldn’t directly affect someone’s height and would only help them reach their full genetic potential, Matrim was still extremely excited about the game.
After all, if basketball could only help someone reach their natural potential, then the Rockford method probably had some magical aspect that allowed them to grow beyond their natural genetic potential.
Still, Matrim was so hyped he wanted to tell his family about the method as soon as he returned.
At least it would be much better than being tied to a wooden platform by his arms and legs for days, constantly feeling like his limbs were about to be ripped apart.
It was also a very good method for increasing someone’s agility and reflexes, while most importantly helping them develop teamwork, environmental awareness, and planning.
Considering how important the coordination between a Shadow and a Witch always was, a training method that could improve this would definitely be something any family would pay a fortune to have.
"Don’t worry. I’ll make sure they give you what you deserve for the idea." Matrim even promised him.
Magna didn’t care much, since the idea didn’t belong to him in the first place. He just brushed it off by saying, "It’s no big deal. Don’t worry." Still, he was quite curious about what he could earn from the idea.
’Maybe I should start selling training methods like these?’ He even started considering it, finally realizing their worth.
In a world where the concept of entertainment was barely developed, with everyone either busy surviving and getting through the day or constantly thinking about magic, these kinds of small inventions were bound to attract attention.
Even simple games like chess and Go would probably blow some people’s minds.
Magna hadn’t even revealed his more complex ideas that required more technology, such as VR games, FPS games that could develop various reflexes and eye-tracking abilities, or MOBA games that could improve tactical thinking and quick decision-making.
