I'm Trapped in the Block
Chapter 622 - 619: The Voice of the Weak
Chapter 622: Chapter 619: The Voice of the Weak
’The Feeding Birds of Prey didn’t see through the ear flies’ method of attack, nor did their intelligence suddenly spike. It was a fluke—the water pressure destroyed their hearing, which is why the birdsong attack no longer works!’
By diving and surfacing rapidly, the Feeding Birds of Prey could keep their feathers from getting wet, but they couldn’t prevent the changes in water pressure.
The water would force its way into the ear canals of the Feeding Birds of Prey, penetrating their fragile inner ear structures. Due to the changes in water pressure, their inner ears suffered severe damage.
Even if they could still hear, the residual seawater would cause them extreme discomfort and distort any sounds.
The intense discomfort in their ears was why these irritable Feeding Birds of Prey kept scratching themselves. The hearing damage also affected their movement, which was why they were staggering around.
’I can’t believe it... The Feeding Birds of Prey dodged the effects of the birdsong attack just like that...’
Even though he now knew why the Feeding Birds of Prey were unaffected, Mo Ling was powerless. He couldn’t possibly heal their hearing. The birds had already scratched their ear canals into a bloody mess. Even if their internal structures were undamaged, the dried blood had completely sealed the openings. The ear flies, who could only attack with sound, were utterly helpless against this flock.
It seemed fleeing was the only option left.
Mo Ling never would have imagined that such a meticulous plan could go wrong in such a way.
More and more Feeding Birds of Prey surfaced from the water. They quickly spread their wings and joined the hunt.
The ear flies scattered and fled. Some darted into other tunnels and escaped with their lives, while others burrowed deep into rock crevices. The defensive line collapsed in an instant.
With their sonic attacks ineffective, the defensive line was meaningless. Mo Ling understood that the ear flies had no choice but to run.
’This flock of Feeding Birds of Prey, immune to sound, will follow the caves to the rear of our lines and slaughter the entire Cave Clan. With all the entrances blocked, the ear flies can only wait helplessly for death.’
Without their sonic abilities, the ear flies were completely defenseless against the powerful Feeding Birds of Prey.
Mo Ling understood this, but as just another ear fly, there was nothing he could do.
The sounds of slaughter continued to echo.
Many of the fleeing ear flies had already been found. Even without their hearing, the Feeding Birds of Prey had other ways of sensing them. Not even the ones playing dead in the crevices could escape their fate.
The Feeding Birds of Prey simply shattered the rock crevices and devoured the ear flies inside one by one.
The ear flies that had escaped into other tunnels were quickly caught. Their speed was no match for the Feeding Birds of Prey, and they could only be swallowed in despair.
BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ.
The sorrowful buzzing of the ear flies echoed through the caves.
In the face of true power, all the efforts of the ear flies were insignificant.
A single mistake had plunged them into a state of utter doom.
The weak ear flies ran, migrated, struggled, and strove with all their might, yet they could not escape their desperate fate.
A profound sense of powerlessness suddenly washed over Mo Ling...
’Is weakness... something that can never be changed?’
All sounds in the world have a volume, and all vibrations have a magnitude.
In the vastness of the world, the buzzing of an ear fly was as minuscule as could be...
Terrifying thunderstorms were deafening. The rustling leaves would be turned to ash beneath them. The trembling of the earth would destroy all things small and fragile, crushing all motley noises into nothing.
The magnitude of vibrations was preordained.
The strong are forever strong, and the weak are forever weak.
No matter how much noise they made, the world would not heed the voice of the weak. Thunderstorms and earthquakes would drown out the whisper of a gentle breeze. Intense vibrations would devour minor ones. This was the law of the world.
’It cannot be changed.’
Within Mo Ling’s visualized world of sound, a massive, winged silhouette appeared. Even as a mere echo, he could feel a terrifying, oppressive presence.
A Feeding Bird of Prey stood before Mo Ling...
This terrifying Hunter had spotted Mo Ling long ago. But Mo Ling hadn’t fled, nor had he tried to burrow into a crevice. He simply remained still on the cave wall, which made the Hunter curious.
Its sharp beak drew near and nudged the prey, which was as still as a corpse.
Usually, its prey would be terrified into immediate flight before being swallowed in a single gulp. This one, however, remained motionless, as if scared witless.
It found this prey more and more interesting. It extended a sharp talon and sliced a long gash across the prey’s body.
Bright red blood trickled down its ear-shaped body and dripped onto the rock below.
The prey still didn’t move, but the bird had lost interest in playing with it.
The scent of blood awakened its vicious nature. Cruelty and madness once again consumed its thoughts. After a piercing shriek, it opened its terrifying maw and lunged at the tiny prey.
It could already imagine the delicious taste of this prey in its mouth...
This type of prey was crunchy, with little moisture. It melted in the mouth and had a very unique texture. It had always been fond of this kind of meal, but it had been a long time since it had eaten one.
Now, it could finally satisfy its craving.
However, the familiar, satisfying crunch never came.
CRACK.
It bit down on empty air.
’What’s happening?’
This not-so-bright Hunter belatedly realized that its head seemed to be falling. Soon, it clattered onto the rock below.
It opened and closed its beak, trying to bite the prey on the wall, but it couldn’t reach. It was as if its neck had no strength.
’Strange.’
Confused, it lost consciousness and fell into an eternal slumber...
Mo Ling, still on the cave wall, shuddered. He hadn’t processed what had just happened either.
’The Feeding Bird of Prey’s neck... just snapped?’
In his visualized world of sound, only the stiff body of the Feeding Bird of Prey remained. Its head had fallen to the ground. The connecting part looked as if it had been instantly severed by something incredibly sharp, leaving a perfectly smooth cut.
Mo Ling suddenly realized that he was probably the one who did it.
’I just focused my attention on its neck, and it... broke...’
Faintly, Mo Ling seemed to sense the appearance of a box.
The appearance of the box was silent, as was the cut. But the rush of air that followed the cut created a whistling sound, outlining the shape of a perfect cube in Mo Ling’s auditory perception.
’No vibration, and no sound... What is this?’
The appearance of that box completely shattered Mo Ling’s understanding of the world.
The stronger the vibration, the more powerful the thing.
’But... how can something with no vibration kill something that does?’
The worldview Mo Ling had just constructed instantly collapsed.
A new idea began to slowly form in his mind...
