Immortal Martial Emperor
Chapter 693 - 689: He Who Kills Shall Be Killed
Chapter 693: Chapter 689: He Who Kills Shall Be Killed
SPLOOSH!
Blood rained from the sky, and its metallic stench filled the air.
The world fell silent. Everyone stared, wide-eyed, at the proud figure standing in the void, their gazes filled with terror and utter disbelief.
Ever since the True Dragon Battlefield came into existence, God King Level experts had rarely died in battle.
This was even more true for top-tier God Kings with City Lord Level combat power. Such beings were the absolute cornerstones of their respective factions and did not fall easily.
Until today, only one top-tier God King had fallen, and that was thirty years ago!
That battle had established the Great City Lord of Xiakang Divine City as the number one City Lord. In that monumental war, he had slain a top-tier God King and severely wounded a City Lord Level expert through heaven-defying means.
But recently...
Ever since Hong Yu appeared, God Kings had been falling one after another.
During the battle in the War Spirit Holy Land, more than five God Kings had perished. If a City Lord Level expert hadn’t intervened at the last moment, none of those God Kings would have survived.
Everyone thought he had met a gruesome end at the hands of the two City Lord experts.
Many had lamented the loss of the Venerable Golden Bone that had vanished along with him. But no one expected Hong Yu to return today, safe and sound, his power vastly increased. He had just torn Kuadi, a top-tier God King with City Lord Level combat strength, apart with his bare hands!
"How terrifying!"
"Kuadi was a top-tier God King and an expert from the Kuafu Race with an incredibly tough body. For Hong Yu to rip him apart, just how strong is he?"
"That’s nothing! Didn’t you see that King Lingxiao and Chen Tao, both newly-promoted to City Lord Level, couldn’t even last three rounds against him?"
"Is he even human?"
A cold chill ran down the spines of the watching experts, and they broke out in a cold sweat.
Mao Mei’Er’s beautiful amber eyes widened as she stared intently at Hong Yu. Gazing at the young man standing proudly in the void amidst the rain of blood, she felt a daze come over her. ’Is this really my Brother Yu?’
「Half a month ago...」
Mao Mei’Er had fallen for Hong Yu, in part, because she saw his potential and hoped he could become a pillar of support for her Spirit Cat Race.
But a larger reason was their conversation on the mountain peak that night. Hong Yu’s words had touched a soft spot in her heart, making her feel a sense of dependence on him.
After spending so much time together afterward, she had truly fallen in love with him.
But she never imagined that after disappearing for more than half a month, Hong Yu would not only return safely but also possess such immense power.
Beyond her shock, Mao Mei’Er’s eyes grew moist. A trace of dazed pride appeared in her gaze as she murmured to herself, ’This is my Brother Yu. My man...’
...
Chen Tao finally managed to crawl out from underground.
Shoving aside the rubble and dirt piled in front of him, he looked utterly wretched, disheveled and covered in blood and grime. Even his Mystical Dharma Aspect, the Bajiao Divine Fan, had a large piece broken off, its light dim.
"Fucking hell! Hong Yu, I swear I’ll kill you..." Chen Tao cursed viciously.
He suddenly sniffed.
The thick smell of blood in the air made him pause. Then he saw the rain of blood drizzling down and a grin spread across his face. ’Haha! Could it be? Did Kuadi kill Hong Yu?’ At this thought, Chen Tao became ecstatic and tilted his head to look up at the sky.
Soon, the triumphant glee on his face vanished completely.
In its place was profound shock.
"Th-th-this... how is this possible?"
His eyes went wide.
In the void, Hong Yu stood proudly, the howling wind whipping his robes about him. His long black hair danced wildly in the gale, making him look like a peerless, frenzied demon.
In each of his hands, he gripped a piece of a corpse!
The body was huge; even the shorter half was a full ten meters long. A closer look revealed it to be Kuadi!
His massive head was lolled to one side, devoid of life. Blood gushed from his mouth, and his bronze, bell-like eyes were filled with indignation and confusion.
HISS!
Chen Tao sucked in a cold breath and collapsed onto the ground. His lips trembled and his teeth chattered. "N-n-no way... Kuadi’s body was so strong, but... but he was torn in half? Holy fucking shit! Is Hong Yu even human?"
At this thought, Chen Tao scrambled to his feet, preparing to tear open the void and escape.
Hong Yu, of course, had noticed Chen Tao.
A playful smirk touched the corners of his lips. With a flick of his body, he swung his arms down, hurling Kuadi’s corpse straight at Chen Tao.
THUD! THUD!
With two heavy impacts, the two halves of Kuadi’s body slammed down in front of and behind Chen Tao. The impact kicked up a violent shockwave of flying sand and stones, halting Chen Tao’s escape.
Chen Tao’s face fell. Hong Yu had already descended before him. With a teasing smile, he sauntered leisurely toward Chen Tao. "Tsk, tsk. Isn’t this the famous God King Chen Tao? Oh, my mistake. I should call you City Lord Chen Tao now, shouldn’t I? Hahaha, a moment ago, I believe you were the one screaming about tearing me to pieces, correct?"
"..."
Chen Tao’s face paled.
He glanced at King Lingxiao, who was bound tightly and being dragged behind Hong Yu, then at Kuadi’s corpse blocking his path. A bitter taste filled Chen Tao’s mouth.
His mind was now completely filled with regret.
He cursed himself for ever opposing Hong Yu. With a miserable look on his face, he said, "H-Hong Yu... there’s no deep-seated hatred between us. It’s all just water under the bridge. Why don’t we just let it go?"
"Let it go?"
Hong Yu raised an eyebrow.
He smiled faintly, but his laughter was utterly grim and cold.
He turned and pointed toward the ruins among the mountains, where signal fires still burned and the bodies of the Spirit Cat Race lay scattered everywhere. Among them were the old, the weak, women, and children—even newborn infants still in their swaddling clothes...
Hong Yu’s eyes gradually turned crimson, but his voice was unnervingly calm, so calm it was frightening. "Take a look behind you at these people... Did they ever offend you? Thirty, if not fifty, thousand of them are dead. Ninety-nine percent of them probably didn’t even know your name. And yet, when you were killing them, did the thought of sparing them ever cross your mind?"
"Those were children. What could they possibly understand? They still needed to be fed by hand! When you laid your hands on them, why didn’t you think of ’letting it go’ then?"
"Those elderly people were in the twilight of their years, so frail they needed help just to walk. Did you have a grudge against them? But did you spare them?"
"You wouldn’t even spare these innocent people, yet now you’re asking me to spare you, an enemy who has tried to kill me time and time again? Don’t you find that laughable?"
Hong Yu’s words were calm from beginning to end.
It was as if two old friends were having a casual chat.
But it was precisely this calmness that sent a bone-deep chill through Chen Tao. He could feel that although Hong Yu appeared nonchalant, his Spiritual Power was locked firmly onto him. If he dared to make a single move, a torrential, storm-like assault would be his end.
His eyes darted around before he gritted his teeth and said, "Hong Yu, I know what I did was wrong. How about this: from this day forward, I, Chen Tao, am willing to serve you as my master and obey your every command. I only ask that you spare my life!"
"Hm?"
Hong Yu paused, looking deeply at Chen Tao.
The Chen Tao of the past had been so arrogant and proud, looking down on all the experts in the world.
But now...
He had actually lowered his proud head, even willing to become his slave, just to beg for a chance to live.
Hong Yu found it laughable. "Chen Tao, don’t you find this ridiculous? Acknowledge me as your master? Heh, do you think I have any need for a servant like you?"
"I’m a dignified City Lord Level expert! Having me as a slave would bring you great convenience!" Chen Tao said hurriedly.
"Sigh. You still don’t understand what I mean."
Hong Yu took a deep breath and said calmly, "Those who kill will always be killed. No matter who you are, you should remember that when you lay hands on innocent people. Today, even if I could let go of our grudge, I must kill you to appease the spirits of the tens of thousands of innocent Lost Souls from the Spirit Cat Race!"
"N-No, you can’t—"
Chen Tao retreated in terror.
But Hong Yu was already moving. His Divine Demon Wings transformed into a sky-blotting black mist as he shot forward, catching up to Chen Tao in an instant.
He suddenly spread his hands.
Vast Void Power surged through his arms. His palms swelled like two mountains and, with a BOOM, clapped together on either side of Chen Tao.
SMACK!
The two giant hands of Void Power slammed shut!
Chen Tao let out a final, wretched scream as his body was flattened by the impact. He was reduced to a mangled pile of flesh and blood that fell from the sky.
"Hong Yu, I’ll make you regret this! I curse you and your descendants for all generations to a life worse than death, to be thieves and whores—"
Hong Yu had snatched out Chen Tao’s Primordial Spirit. It struggled relentlessly but could not break free, roaring in fury.
Hong Yu narrowed his eyes. "Still running that filthy mouth of yours when you’re about to die. Heh, you truly deserve death and more!"
The moment the words left his mouth, the World-Burning Golden Lotus manifested in Hong Yu’s right eye. Thousands of little serpents of dark-gold Nine Netherworld Burning World Flame shot out, weaving back and forth, slowly roasting Chen Tao’s Primordial Spirit.
Chen Tao shrieked incessantly.
He was hysterical, in unimaginable agony.
WHOOSH!
As the last wisp of the Nine Netherworld Burning World Flame drifted past, Chen Tao’s Primordial Spirit was annihilated.
The vines of the Biluo Immortal Vine slowly writhed, pushing King Lingxiao forward until he was before Hong Yu.
Hong Yu waved his hand, removing the Biluo Immortal Vine tendril that covered King Lingxiao’s mouth. "Your turn," he said calmly.
King Lingxiao’s face was pale. He had personally witnessed the fall of Kuadi and Chen Tao, and was now making a last-ditch struggle. "Hong Yu, you can’t kill me! If you dare to kill me, the day my City Lord emerges from his seclusion will be the day you die! Not only will he kill you, he’ll exterminate the clans of everyone connected to you!"
Hong Yu said coolly, "Kuadi said that. Chen Tao said that, too. But now... they’re..." He pointed at the gore on the ground.
GULP!
King Lingxiao swallowed hard, forcing himself to appear calm. "D-Don’t think I’m bluffing. My Great City Lord is the strongest expert in the True Dragon Battlefield! Ten of you wouldn’t be his match. If you dare kill me..."
"You’ve said enough. Let me shut you up for good."
Hong Yu took a breath. A longsword appeared in his hand, and he prepared to stab it into King Lingxiao’s heart.
Just then...
A powerful ripple suddenly spread through the void, and a deep, muffled voice boomed out...
"You dare kill my son? Die, you spawn of evil!"
