Immortal of the Nine Realms
Chapter 1888: Only Representing Myself
The moment Fang Chen laid eyes on Lang Yu'er, he couldn’t help but feel as if he were looking at Fairy Yu. However, her demeanor did not resemble the Fairy Yu during her time in Grand Xia. It was more akin to the Fairy Yu after she had been implanted with the Inverse Immortal Demonic Embryo.
He glanced at Wang Chongsong, finally understanding the deeper meaning behind Old Wang’s previous comment about Fairy Yu’s somewhat special identity.
Noticing Fang Chen staring, Wang Chongsong immediately sent him a voice transmission, "Old Fang, the way you're looking at Brother Lang's sister is a bit off. Interracial marriages don’t work. You can’t have children."
Fang Chen did not bother to reply, as Yan Haoran, the Half Saint of the Vajra Race, had already spoken. He looked toward Fang Chen with a calm, indifferent gaze.
"Human Fang Chen, over these years, your fame has spread through quite a few regions of the Divine Realm. However, when it comes to matters between the Vajra Race and the God Race, I am afraid the Human Race does not possess the status to meddle."
"Senior, you misunderstand. I have not come here representing the Human Race," replied Fang Chen with a smile, cupping his hands.
Failing to catch Fang Chen in a trap, Yan Haoran could only probe further, "Then who do you represent?"
Fang Chen stated, "Only myself. Brother Lang and I formed a bit of a friendship within the Saint Tower. He paid a visit to me this time, hoping I would step forward to intercede and help smooth things over so they may be allowed to pass through.”
Yan Mei'er suddenly sneered. "What a joke! Even if you are the number one of your peers, you are still nothing but a junior before Half Saint Yan. Not to mention that the Human Race behind you is fragile beyond measure. You were once mere slave soldiers of the Flame Race, and even the Flame Race relies on our Vajra Race to survive. What right do you have to intercede?"
The young cultivators of the Vajra Race quickly snapped out of it, echoing her words. Yan Haoran remained silent, merely looking at Fang Chen with a half-smile.
"These juniors speak coarsely, but their reasoning is sound. What do you think?"
Fang Chen smiled. "That is exactly why they are merely juniors who do not understand the underlying principles. You are different, so you naturally understand why Brother Lang came to invite me. I’ve already made it clear to him that the Vajra Race might refuse to give me face. Therefore, I made this trip here regardless of the result. Everything depends on the will of the Vajra Race."
Yan Haoran instantly fell silent, a thoughtful look surfacing in his eyes.
Seeing that, Half Saint Du suddenly sighed softly. "The God Race has suffered a calamity and experienced the coldness of the world. I truly did not expect a young brother of your background to be willing to stand up and speak out for justice. This old man is filled with admiration."
The gazes of the God Race cultivators softened immensely as they looked at Fang Chen. At this particular juncture, anyone who dared to step forward and intercede for the God Race could not possibly be doing it for personal gain. Thinking back on all the hardship they had faced along their journey, they increasingly felt that the young man before them was remarkably close and trustworthy.
Fang Chen cupped his hands. "Senior is unwilling to sell out a junior of your own clan just to seek a path to survival. I admire that as well."
Half Saint Du was slightly startled, then nodded with a smile, saying nothing more.
Seeing Yan Haoran still deep in thought, Yan Mei'er could not help but try to speak again, but Yan Chen cut her off.
Yan Chen warned via voice transmission, "Little Sister, though the person before us comes from a weak race, his status became entirely different the moment he achieved the number one rank among his peers. Perhaps the Human Race is still ignored by the powerful races, but that does not mean he personally could be ignored. Keep your mouth shut and let Half Saint make the decision."
Yan Mei'er was still somewhat bewildered. "Brother, what do you mean?"
Yan Chen sighed. "Just now, Half Saint Yan wanted to trick him into saying the wrong thing. If this person had admitted that the Human Race was backing the God Race this time, we could have completely denied him any face. After all, what does the Human Race amount to? But this person did not come on behalf of the Human Race. From beginning to end, he only claimed to represent himself."
Yan Mei'er asked blankly, "He says he represents himself, so that makes it true?"
"Yes, because he says he represents himself, it is so. Do not forget; there are still many powerful existences who wish to assist the God Race but find it inconvenient to step forward. Now that he has provided such an excellent excuse, those existences can use him to intervene indirectly. We naturally do not believe he only represents himself. If the Human Saints had not permitted him to come, how could he have reached this place? However, those existences who want to help the God Race will choose to believe him. As long as they believe it, the Human Race naturally stays out of it. Personal grievances, within permitted boundaries, allow the higher-placed to suppress the lower, and the Supreme Qingming Alliance will turn a blind eye."
Yan Chen explained helplessly, "If some powerful existence uses this youth's hand to strike at our Vajra Race, even Half Saint Yan's life might have to be forfeit... Besides that, this youth himself cannot be underestimated. If he studies under a Saint of a powerful race in the future, he alone will have the capability to make things incredibly difficult for us."
Yan Mei'er shut her mouth completely. If Yan Chen hadn't laid it out for her, she wouldn't have grasped Fang Chen’s significance anytime soon.
"If I refuse to give you face, I suppose some senior would step forward, claim to be your elder, and vent this grievance on your behalf, wouldn't they?" Yan Haoran finally said after a long silence, a trace of helplessness in his tone.
Fang Chen shook his head slightly. "I am not entirely sure about that."
He truly did not know for certain, though he had his own deductions.
In the void above, the portal to that magnificent Inner Domain gradually faded, eventually vanishing without a trace. Seeing that, both the God Race and the Vajra Race understood that the Vajra Race Saint would not be taking action.
"Fine, I will allow them to pass, but on one condition." Yan Haoran narrowed his eyes slightly, scanning Fang Chen up and down. "Your current aura is already at seventh transformation. Compared to several decades ago, you have advanced by an entire realm, correct?"
Fang Chen nodded. "Yes."
"Very well. Among my juniors, there is also a seventh transformation. He was at a critical juncture of secluded cultivation last time, so he missed the Saint Tower Battle. And this junior, I believe, has a fair chance of breaking into the top one hundred."
A low burst of laughter suddenly erupted from the God Race side, filled with disdain and contempt. The expressions of the Vajra Race cultivators darkened, but their displeasure could not stop the God Race from mocking them.
"Do you not believe me? If the Human Race could produce Fang Chen, my Vajra Race can just as easily produce Yan Li," said Yan Haoran calmly.
From the crowd behind him, a young member of the Vajra Race stepped forward. He stood firm beside Yan Haoran, his gaze locked dead onto Fang Chen.
"Originally, if the God Race had been willing to form a marriage alliance with my clan, that God Race maiden would have married my son, Yan Li." Yan Haoran showed a look of regret. "It seems we are bound to miss out on this joyous occasion. However, if my son Yan Li can trade blows with the former number one of the Saint Tower's identical rank, it would also be a rare opportunity."
He looked toward Fang Chen and smiled. "As long as you can defeat Yan Li, I will concede to you."
Hearing Yan Haoran mention that Lang Yu'er would have been wed to Yan Li had she remained, the divine ability cultivators of the God Race began to scrutinize Yan Li, their eyes still full of cold mockery and disdain. As things stood, aside from their own race, only human Fang Chen could command their respect.
Lang Yu'er looked at Fang Chen, then looked at Yan Li, and felt that the former was much more pleasing to the eye.
