Immortal Sword Master
Chapter 585: The Immortal Desert Giant
Chapter 585 -580: The Immortal Desert Giant
The moment he entered the seventh floor, a wave of scorching heat and dryness washed over him.
WHOOSH!
A fierce wind kicked up, sending yellow sand swirling through the air.
This was a desert, and the scorching temperature made the place feel like a furnace.
RUMBLE…
The desert began to tremble without warning. Its once-still surface flowed like water, converging toward a central point. The sand surged upward, and in the span of just three breaths, it condensed into a Desert Giant.
The Giant was immense, standing hundreds of yards tall. It looked like a colossus from ancient times, exuding a suffocating pressure.
‘So this is the trial for the seventh floor.’
Ning Jiang narrowed his eyes, observing it. The Desert Giant’s aura was far more powerful than the phantom from the sixth floor. Although the sixth floor’s challenge was at the level of the Ten Great Earth Martial Realms, its guardian must have been one of the more ordinary ones.
This Desert Giant, however, was clearly a top-tier entity.
The moment the Desert Giant appeared, its aura locked onto Ning Jiang. It then stretched out its hand, a colossal palm that blotted out the sky as it descended upon him.
“Slash.”
Ning Jiang swung his sword, unleashing a sharp Sword Aura that could cleave a mountain in two. But when it struck the Desert Giant’s palm, it only managed to cut halfway through.
Worse, the gash healed in an instant.
‘This is rather troublesome,’ Ning Jiang thought.
The Desert Giant wasn’t a living being in the true sense of the word. Its entire body was made of sand, so attacking it wouldn’t damage its core.
Moreover, if this dragged on, the more energy he consumed, the more certain his defeat would be.
WHOOSH!
The Desert Giant opened its mouth and spewed forth a torrent of yellow sand, engulfing the space around Ning Jiang and leaving him no room to dodge. With a soft grunt, Ning Jiang summoned intertwining bolts of Thunderbolt within a three-foot radius of his body. They formed a Body-Protecting Light Shield, deflecting the sand.
He bent his knees and pushed off with explosive force, shooting forward like an arrow loosed from a bow. The swirling sand was useless against him, unable to impede his advance.
“Sword Suppressing Sun and Moon.”
In an instant, he was before the Desert Giant’s head. He swung his sword, and its dazzling light outshone everything in the void.
SCHLICK.
The blade swept through, and the Desert Giant’s head went flying. But the body didn’t fall. The sand reconverged, and in the blink of an eye, the Giant was whole again.
‘It seems the only way to kill it is to find the Energy core in its body and destroy it.’
Ning Jiang concluded that if he couldn’t find its Energy core, the Desert Giant would simply reform, even if he smashed it to pieces.
In a way, it possessed a form of immortality.
「Meanwhile, outside the Linglong Tower.」
“Quick, look! We can see their trials from here.”
The nine who had been eliminated were staring at a tall stone stele in the center. The stele was peculiar; crystals grew out from within it, and their surfaces displayed scenes from inside the Linglong Tower.
Through these crystals, the crowd could see everything clearly.
“So these Desert Giants are the challenge for the seventh gate? They’re so strong! You can’t kill them no matter how you attack.”
After watching for a while, their faces filled with shock. On the crystals, they saw various experts attacking the Desert Giants. But no matter what they did—slicing off limbs, sending heads flying, or even cleaving the bodies in two—the Desert Giants would always return to their original state.
It was a scene that inspired despair. If you couldn’t kill them, how were you supposed to pass?
“Looks like Lin Jue is at his limit.”
Someone’s gaze shifted to Lin Jue. He was struggling under the Desert Giant’s assault, completely suppressed and on the defensive.
BAM.
The Desert Giant slapped down, striking Lin Jue. His body shot downward like a meteorite, crashing into the desert. The immense Power created a crater hundreds of feet wide.
Lin Jue, at the center of the impact, was badly injured by the blow and coughed up mouthful after mouthful of blood.
“I won’t accept this!”
Lin Jue roared. He opened his mouth, and the Blood Spirit Blade materialized once more. This was the second time he had activated it, and the strain on his body was immense.
He had been backed into a corner and had no choice but to go all out.
SHING!
The Blood Spirit Blade transformed into a streak of red light and shot forward. The attack was so potent it made the hearts of the eliminated spectators pound in their chests; a move like that could easily threaten their lives.
BAM.
With a loud crack, the Blood Spirit Blade pierced the Desert Giant’s brow.
“Die!”
Lin Jue stared intently at the Desert Giant, but it was completely unaffected. It lifted its foot—a colossal sole that resembled a mountain—and brought it down on him.
A strike like that would undoubtedly crush Lin Jue into paste.
“I withdraw from the trial.”
At the last possible second, Lin Jue hurriedly shouted. A surge of Space Power enveloped him and teleported him away.
When he reappeared, he was outside the Linglong Tower.
“Damn it, I guessed wrong. The Desert Giant’s core isn’t in its brow.”
Lin Jue’s expression was grim. During his fight with the Desert Giant, he had, of course, realized he couldn’t kill it without destroying its core.
That was why his last, desperate strike had been a gamble—a bet that the Desert Giant’s core was located in its brow. Clearly, he had bet wrong.
“Who’s still in?”
Just then, his gaze fell upon the crystals on the stele.
Shortly after, another expert at the level of the Ten Great Earth Martial Realms was defeated by a Desert Giant and teleported out.
After another short wait, two more appeared. One of them was Ao Fengfeng of the Flood Dragon Clan.
“I’d say no more than a handful of people will pass the seventh gate.”
“Gu Huaying and the Little Dragon Girl are quite strong, to have lasted this long. But from the looks of it, they’re about to be eliminated too.”
The crowd began to murmur amongst themselves.
Within the crystal, Gu Huaying was making another desperate push, unleashing her Sea of Buried Flowers. Endless petals enveloped the Desert Giant and began to spin rapidly, forming a floral vortex that began to shred it ferociously.
Under this onslaught, the Desert Giant’s sand was stripped away, layer by layer.
But the assault didn’t last long. The petals suddenly vanished, and a pale-faced Gu Huaying chose to withdraw from the trial.
Sea of Buried Flowers was a powerful move, but it consumed a tremendous amount of Spiritual Qi. The more petals she manifested, the greater the drain. In the end, her Spiritual Qi was completely depleted, forcing her to quit.
The Little Dragon Girl withdrew at the same time.
The Little Dragon Girl had given it her all, activating her Dragon Race bloodline. Her body was wreathed in the image of a massive dragon as she punched clean through the Desert Giant’s heart.
Unfortunately, the Desert Giant didn’t die. She, however, was completely exhausted and unable to fight on, leaving her no choice but to withdraw.
“Just where is this Desert Giant’s core?”
The crowd watching from outside was also bewildered. The head, the heart… If the core couldn’t be found in these vital points, then how on earth was one supposed to kill the Desert Giant?
