Immortality by Inheriting Friends' Legacies
Chapter 53: Li Xun’s Other Identity!
Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Li Xun’s Other Identity!
"When did she leave!?" Li Xun asked sharply, his voice laced with anxiety.
Fang Xu clutched his head and replied somewhat timidly, "Not long after the Crown Prince left. I’m afraid it’s been over two hours."
"Over two hours?" Li Xun’s expression shifted slightly. If Yun Wan, a Martial Master of the Ninth Realm, traveled at full speed, over two hours would likely be enough for her to reach the depths of Tilan Mountain. She might have even entered the ruins by now.
When his father and Yun Jin left, they had entrusted Yun Wan to him. If anything were to happen to her on this trip, how could he explain it to them? How could he answer to the Yun Family?
Right now, he could only hope that Yun Wan would run into his father, Yun Jin, and their group inside the ruins. That way, she might still have a chance of survival.
Glancing at Fang Xu beside him, Li Xun’s expression fluctuated, but he didn’t lay too much blame on the man.
As a Martial Artist of the Second Realm of the Martial Disciple stage, Fang Xu simply didn’t have the ability to stop Yun Wan. Waking up and reporting to him immediately was already the best he could do.
"You may go back first. I’m giving you two days off," Li Xun said with some irritation, waving his hand.
Fang Xu didn’t say a word. He gave a slight bow and hurriedly left the Government Office.
He had managed to dodge this bullet, but he had no idea what would happen next.
Upon returning home and seeing that the light in Chu Muyun’s room was still on, Fang Xu immediately fetched a basin of clean water to wash the bloodstains off his hands and head. Then, he heated a basin of water and carried it into her room.
"Fang Xu."
Inside the room, Chu Muyun was sitting in her wheelchair. Upon seeing Fang Xu, a happy smile appeared on her face.
"Have you been waiting long?" Fang Xu gave a gentle smile. He crouched down, skillfully removing her shoes and socks before placing her small feet into the basin of water to soak.
"Fang Xu, are you injured?"
Even though he had already washed away the blood on his hands and body, Chu Muyun still caught a faint whiff of blood and hurriedly asked out of concern.
Fang Xu came over to sit beside her and smiled faintly. "It’s just a flesh wound. It’s nothing."
Chu Muyun pouted, however. "Go get the medical kit. Let Mu Yun bandage it for you."
"No..." Fang Xu was about to refuse, but seeing the stubborn look on Chu Muyun’s face, he chuckled and got up to fetch the medical kit from his own room.
He rested his head on Chu Muyun’s lap, watching as she carefully cleaned, applied medicine to, and bandaged his wounds.
"Fang Xu, Mu Yun stood up today."
While carefully bandaging his wounds, Chu Muyun spoke softly, a joyful expression on her face. "Although it was only for a few breaths, I really did stand up."
"Really!?" Fang Xu was thrilled. He sat up abruptly, but in doing so, he accidentally pulled at his wounds, making him wince and bare his teeth in pain.
Chu Muyun gently pressed his head back onto her lap and lightly scolded, "It’s not finished yet."
Under the lamplight, Fang Xu chuckled as he enjoyed her tenderness. His gaze swept over her beautiful face as he said, "Mu Yun, you’re actually a genius."
Hearing this, Chu Muyun paused her movements slightly. She pursed her lips and said, "Why are you making fun of me, Fang Xu?"
"I’m not making fun of you. You actually have a special physique... Do you know what a special physique is?"
Seeing that he didn’t seem to be joking, Chu Muyun tilted her head and asked, "What is a special physique?"
Fang Xu sat up and said seriously, "You can think of it as a physique that is naturally suited to doing certain things.
"Land Master told me that you have the Pill Fragrance Sacred Body... It’s the reason for that special scent you’ve had on you since birth."
Chu Muyun still didn’t seem to understand what Fang Xu meant; her small face was full of confusion.
Fang Xu thought for a moment and explained it in a simpler way. "Land Master meant that you are a natural Alchemist. As long as your legs can recover and you can cultivate, you will definitely become a Pill Master in the future."
"An Alchemist?" Chu Muyun was somewhat stunned. "An Alchemist like the Wu Family Ancestor?"
Fang Xu nodded. "An Alchemist even stronger than the Wu Family Ancestor!"
Hearing this, Chu Muyun was extremely excited.
When her grandfather was alive, he was the Shopkeeper of the Wu Family’s Qinxiang House. He had told her about the Wu Family’s history of rising to power more than once. It could be said that the reason the Wu Family was able to leap from being ordinary Landlord Strongmen to becoming the largest family in Fenglin Town was entirely due to the Wu Family Ancestor’s Alchemy skills.
If she could become an Alchemist, wouldn’t she be able to help Fang Xu so he wouldn’t have to toil from dawn till dusk every day?
"But... but I haven’t recovered yet..." Looking down at her legs, Chu Muyun said somewhat sadly.
Seeing this, Fang Xu gently rubbed her head and said, "We can’t rush this. We have to take it slowly.
"Come, I’ll give you a massage."
As he gently massaged her jade-like feet, Yun Wan’s face surfaced in his mind.
By now, she had likely already entered the ruins. He wondered if she would be able to survive inside this time.
Strength! Once again, he lamented the importance of strength.
Even someone as strong as Yun Wan, who had the Yun Family—the Lord of Huangzhou—standing behind her, could actually be pushed to such a point.
If the Yun Family possessed greater strength, and if Yun Wan had the cultivation of a high-level Martial Venerable, Li Xingchao probably wouldn’t have dared to pressure them like this.
Right now, he was walking a tightrope every day, teetering on the edge of life and death. In the end, it was all because he was too weak.
If he was strong enough, even if he openly told the Yun Family that the Divination God Treasure Yun Tianhe had brought out was with him, the Yun Family likely wouldn’t dare to harbor any other thoughts.
"Fang Xu?"
Seeing that Fang Xu was somewhat distracted and that his hands had already slid up to her knees, Chu Muyun called out to him shyly.
Fang Xu snapped back to reality and noticed his own wandering hands. He immediately gave an apologetic smile.
"I got distracted.
"Alright, that’s it for today. It’s getting late, so go to sleep."
After tucking Chu Muyun in and blowing out the oil lamp, Fang Xu closed the door and walked out into the courtyard.
He looked in the direction of the Wang Family’s courtyard, then leaped over the courtyard wall.
The next morning.
Li Xun had mentioned last night that he was allowed two days of rest, so Fang Xu didn’t go to the Government Office to wait for him. After returning from the Wang Family’s home, he simply washed up, ate breakfast with Chu Muyun, and headed to Zhiyuan Hall.
He had been too busy these past few days to find time to visit Lu Zhiyuan.
On the way to Zhiyuan Hall, a question suddenly popped into Fang Xu’s mind: his master, Lu Zhiyuan, undoubtedly also had a major faction behind him.
He wondered how this faction compared to the Yun Family and the royal family.
"Qingluo." As soon as he stepped into Zhiyuan Hall, Fang Xu saw Lu Qingluo practicing her Spear Technique in the Martial Arts Arena.
Seeing that it was Fang Xu, Lu Qingluo kept a cold face and didn’t say a word. Fang Xu didn’t want to ask for a snub either; after greeting her, he headed straight for the inner courtyard.
Inside the courtyard, Lu Zhiyuan was sitting cross-legged to the side, cultivating. Hearing the commotion, he slowly opened his eyes.
"Master," Fang Xu said, bowing with cupped hands.
Lu Zhiyuan nodded slightly. "Take a seat."
Fang Xu sat down beside Lu Zhiyuan. Before he could speak, Lu Zhiyuan asked first, "I heard that you’ve been following Crown Prince Li Xun these past two days, investigating the matter of the shamans?"
Fang Xu nodded. "You knew, Master?"
Lu Zhiyuan pondered for a moment before saying, "Find a way to stop getting mixed up with him."
Fang Xu was confused.
"He is Zhao Wuji’s disciple, and Zhao Wuji is the main culprit who massacred the Dusk Cloud Kingdom," Lu Zhiyuan said indifferently. "Not only that, but the people from the Ascension Association will also be arriving in Fenglin Town soon.
"That is the only faction in the entirety of Great Yu capable of standing on equal footing with the royal family."
It seemed there was an incredibly powerful intelligence network backing him. Despite being in a small place like Fenglin Town, Lu Zhiyuan could grasp the movements of various outside factions without ever leaving his home.
