Immortality by Inheriting Friends' Legacies
Chapter 64: Young Girl Tongtong
Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Young Girl Tongtong
Most of the martial artists gradually dispersed, and the small fraction that remained hesitated. Ultimately, another portion of them chose to give up, leaving only a dozen or so who decided to continue the pursuit.
Before the waterfall, Fang Xu picked an unknown vine leaf to scoop some sweet spring water from the clear river. After taking a drink, he looked around and set off toward the place where he had been attacked yesterday.
That area was clearly the gathering place of South Witch and her clansmen. Thanks to his master’s connections, these witches from the Dusk Cloud Kingdom were relatively friendly to him.
Fang Xu knew that as long as he could find the witches, he would be safe.
As the 7:00 AM hour drew to a close, Fang Xu was navigating through the dense forest when he quickly spotted some messy footprints.
"Who goes there?!"
Suddenly, a figure wearing a bronze mask leaped down from a large tree beside him. At the same time, a giant wolf with silver fur lunged out of the nearby bushes!
The person and the wolf boxed Fang Xu in.
"I am Fang Xu. I’m here to find Senior South Witch," Fang Xu said to the person in front of him.
"You’re looking for Lady South Witch?" The witch slowly took off the bronze mask, revealing a youthful, pretty face. She looked as though she hadn’t even reached adulthood yet.
"Are you the one chosen by the Divine Attendant?" the young girl asked, studying Fang Xu with curiosity.
Fang Xu nodded.
"Lady South Witch is preparing to evacuate with the clan. Follow me." Confirming Fang Xu’s identity, the little girl waved her hand. The giant silver wolf bounded over to her side and respectfully crouched down.
Grabbing its mane, the little girl vaulted onto the giant wolf’s back.
"What’s your name?" Fang Xu asked casually as he walked slowly behind the giant wolf.
"Tongtong."
"And you?"
"Fang Xu."
"Tongtong, are all of you witches female?"
To this day, he had seen a total of three witches. One was dead, her corpse picked clean by ferocious beasts, but the size of her skeleton vaguely suggested she had been a woman. The other two were South Witch and Tongtong.
"Witches are definitely all female," she replied. "The men are Shamans."
Tongtong didn’t seem to have her guard up around Fang Xu at all, completely treating him as a member of her own clan.
"What is Land Master’s status in your clan?" Fang Xu asked again.
Tongtong shook her head. "Lady South Witch said I can’t tell you yet."
Fang Xu twitched his mouth.
He wondered how South Witch knew he would ask about this.
"The Divine Attendant Pill hasn’t recognized a master in a thousand years. I really don’t understand why it suddenly chose an outsider," Tongtong said, sizing Fang Xu up with curiosity.
"Is it hard for the Divine Attendant Pill to acknowledge a master?" Fang Xu asked, puzzled.
He only remembered that Lu Zhiyuan had handed the elixir to him, and after swallowing it, nothing special happened. Those cute little things just took it upon themselves to envelop his internal organs.
Hearing this, Tongtong rolled her eyes at him. "That was cultivated by an Ancient Great Witch of our clan. Not even the Saintess was able to obtain this inheritance."
"Is the Saintess you’re talking about Senior Sister Qingluo?" Fang Xu asked with doubt.
"I didn’t say that!" Tongtong quickly denied it, looking visibly nervous as soon as his words fell.
Seeing her reaction, Fang Xu couldn’t help but laugh.
He thought this little girl didn’t seem particularly bright.
"We’re almost there, keep up!"
As if knowing that all her little secrets would be dug out if she kept chatting with Fang Xu, Tongtong immediately patted the giant wolf beneath her, abruptly increasing its speed.
Seeing this, Fang Xu had no choice but to quickly follow suit.
Passing through a dense patch of bushes, over ten exquisite wooden cabins suddenly appeared before them.
In front of the cabins, many men and women dressed in the same attire as Tongtong and South Witch were busy packing up their belongings.
"Lady South Witch, Fang Xu is here," Tongtong said respectfully after hopping off the giant wolf’s back and approaching South Witch.
South Witch turned around, frowning as she looked at Fang Xu. "Why are you back?"
Fang Xu smiled bitterly. "I was ambushed and couldn’t get down the mountain." He then asked, "Senior South Witch, did your people kill Li Xun?"
If Li Xun was killed, the Great Yu Dynasty would definitely be shaken, and Fenglin Town would likely descend into even greater chaos.
After all, both Human Slaughter Zhao Wuji and Li Xingchao placed high hopes on Li Xun.
"No, he and that Martial Venerable escaped," South Witch said with a hint of reluctance. "That’s why I have to take my clansmen and leave here immediately."
After learning that Li Xun had become Zhao Wuji’s disciple, she had set up this trap and made ample preparations, believing they could inflict a heavy blow on the Great Yu Dynasty.
She hadn’t expected Li Xun and Xu Liang to luckily break through the siege and escape in the end.
"I can’t escort you down the mountain." South Witch looked at Fang Xu, her voice deep. "Your master didn’t tell you his identity because he didn’t want you getting involved with us.
"After all, in the entire Yu Kingdom, we are like rats crossing the street, forced to hide in the shadows."
South Witch glanced at her clansmen behind her with self-deprecation. She took a letter from beneath her loose robes and handed it to Fang Xu. "Read this after you’re down the mountain. It should help you through your current crisis."
After saying that, she looked at Tongtong beside her. "Take him out of the mountain using the other path.
"Go quickly and come back safely. I’ll leave markings for you."
Tongtong nodded and waved at the giant wolf lying on the ground not far away. The beast obediently trotted over and lowered its body.
"Senior South Witch, my master was taken away by the Ascension Association." After some thought, Fang Xu decided to tell her about this matter.
"I know." South Witch sighed. "We cannot afford to offend the Ascension Association. Saving him will have to rely on you.
"Hurry up and leave. We’ll meet again if fate allows."
Prompted by South Witch, Fang Xu followed Tongtong toward another part of the forest.
Watching Fang Xu’s retreating back, South Witch’s expression was laced with worry. "Can this little guy really bring hope to our clan?"
Qinghe County, Liu Family Castle.
Located within the borders of Qinghe County, Liu Family Castle was a town neighboring Fenglin Town.
On the outskirts of Tilan Mountain, heading toward Liu Family Castle, Tongtong sat on the giant wolf and looked at Fang Xu. "I can’t go any further."
As she spoke, her gaze lingered on the distant town. Fang Xu could see a trace of longing for the outside world in her eyes.
"Thank you. If there’s a chance in the future, I’ll take you to play in the town," Fang Xu said, cupping his hands slightly.
"Who... who wants to go to that broken-down town!" Tongtong stubbornly retorted. Her small hands gently stroked the giant wolf’s silvery-white mane. "I have my clansmen in the mountains, as well as Yin and many other friends."
"Alright, I’m leaving. Go back on your own," she said, patting the giant wolf’s head and waving at Fang Xu.
The giant wolf turned around and, with a few leaps, bounded into the depths of Tilan Mountain.
Late at night, a figure appeared at the foot of Tilan Mountain. Fang Xu had finally made it out of the mountain safely.
Those martial artists hunting him never expected that he would emerge from the depths of Tilan Mountain so quickly and safely, nor did they anticipate that he would detour in the direction of Liu Family Castle.
After carefully confirming that there was no one blocking his path, he stealthily made his way toward Fenglin Town.
Back at the small courtyard.
Fang Xu carefully scouted the area. Seeing that no one was staking out his home, he hurriedly vaulted into the yard.
Chu Muyun’s room was unlit. Feeling anxious, Fang Xu quickly pushed the door open and entered.
"Mu Yun?"
In the darkness, he pulled out a fire starter and blew on it. By the flickering light, he saw Chu Muyun still lying on the bed, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Fang Xu..." Chu Muyun struggled up weakly, her face filled with worry and excitement.
"Why are you so weak?" Lighting the oil lamp, Fang Xu quickly supported her, his heart aching.
"You didn’t let me go out," Chu Muyun said softly.
Hearing this made Fang Xu’s heart ache even more.
Chu Muyun’s weakness was entirely due to hunger. Having not stepped out of her room for two days and two nights, she obviously hadn’t eaten or drunk a single thing.
"Silly girl, wait here."
After comforting Chu Muyun, Fang Xu went to the kitchen. He stewed a bowl of meat broth for her to drink and fetched some hot water to soak her feet.
Under the dim light of the oil lamp, enjoying Fang Xu’s foot massage, Chu Muyun asked with concern, "Did something happen to you?"
Fang Xu smiled and shook his head without speaking.
He was currently pondering one thing: since Li Xun had escaped, how was he going to explain himself to the man next?
