Chapter 109: Chapter 88: You Survive, I Earn Money

The woman had contacted Yu Qing, wanting to join forces with another Immortal Descendant to share the responsibility for the deaths of several thousand laborers.

By joining forces, the two of them could quickly recruit another batch of people to fill the vacancies.

"Fine, fine. This is a matter of life and death. Anyway, there are only seven of us Little Demons... oh, wait, you brought another one back yesterday, so I guess that makes eight. You’re the one who saved them all, and it’s not like this is our first mission. Do whatever you want."

Monkey shook his head, but then quickly got excited again. "But if we get that Spiritual Milk, won’t you have a chance to break through to Core Formation, become a Demon General, and successfully raise our banner?"

Only a Demon General could raise a banner and make a name for themselves. Only then would their group of Little Demons have a place to belong, rather than being Scattered Demons that anyone could bully.

"How about we use your life to fuel the Blood Qi?"

Xie Yutang shot him a look. "We’re destroying that mine. No matter what, we can’t let a Treasure like that fall into the hands of Immortal Descendants."

"I guess you have a point." Monkey’s face fell, and he sighed.

"We’re about to do something big. That Immortal Talisman was something we all pitched in for. Why give it to an Immortal Disciple? Aren’t you afraid he’ll just use it to kill us later?"

"..."

Xie Yutang was silent for a long time before she said slowly, "Because he spared Miss Gu. Elder Xu used to say that vengeance must be taken and kindness must be repaid. We may walk the Demon Path, but we must never forget how to be human."

She glanced to the side and saw that many of the laborers had already finished their meals and were leaving the inn one by one.

The young woman finally stood up and walked over to the counter, her expression as calm as ever.

As if she had never seen the two people behind the counter before, she said coolly, "Shopkeeper, I left in a hurry and forgot to bring any silver."

As she spoke, Xie Yutang generously slapped an Immortal Talisman onto the table. "This is a Mid Grade Immortal Talisman. It can withstand a full-powered strike from the Mid-stage Jade Liquid realm. I’ll use this to pay for the meal."

As soon as she finished speaking, she turned and strode away.

In contrast to Xie Yutang’s indifference, Monkey’s face was contorted in anguish. His one remaining ear was so red it looked like it might start bleeding.

He stretched his lips into a smile that looked more like he was about to cry. "Shopkeeper, please use it sparingly."

Before he could finish, Xie Yutang reached back without turning, grabbed Monkey by the collar, and unceremoniously yanked him outside.

With her back to everyone, a flicker of embarrassed anger finally appeared on her cold face as she forced out a single sentence:

"Stop embarrassing me!"

"..."

Yu Sheng stared at the Immortal Talisman on the table and covered her little face with her hands. "Wow! We made a sale!"

She excitedly snatched up the Immortal Talisman and thrust it into the young man’s palm.

After several days of digesting her inheritance, the little one’s Magical Power had not only increased, but she was also gradually beginning to understand more about the world.

An Immortal Talisman of this quality was worth at least three to five hundred merit points.

"Tsk."

Lin Shu controlled a split soul to trail them, mapping out their route.

Only when he reached the maximum range of his Divine Technique did he retract the split soul.

’Sacrificing laborers? Raising a banner?’

He lowered his gaze slightly, looking at the Immortal Talisman in his palm.

’This group of Demons, much like the Immortal Families, has challenged my perceptions.’

’I wonder how many Sin Coins an Immortal Descendant is worth?’

’They should be worth a bit more than an ordinary Foundation Establishment Cultivator, right?’

Before yesterday, Lin Shu would never have dared to entertain a thought that could plunge him into such immense danger.

But since even Little Demons in the Foundation Establishment Stage could walk freely within Yongzhou Pass,

it meant they must have mastered some kind of Breath Concealment technique.

This also suggested that while the Mountain God Mirror was powerful, it likely couldn’t provide foolproof protection over the entirety of Yongzhou Pass.

’If I could use the reputation of this group of Demon Fiends...’

’...couldn’t I also do some things that I want to do?’

The inn gradually emptied out.

A few cooks and attendants helped clear the tables, then bowed humbly. "Mountain God, Shopkeeper Lin, we’ll be taking our leave now."

"Thank you for your hard work. Go on."

Lin Shu picked Yu Sheng up, set her on her little stool, and rose to close the doors for the night.

As he reached the entrance, he suddenly heard the frantic beat of horse hooves.

THUMP-THUMP-THUMP!

A group of a dozen or so people on magnificent horses charged into Shihu City. Spiritual Light flashed from their hooves, and their speed was no less than Lin Shu’s when he was running at full tilt.

A Steward moved to block their path and question them.

The riders yanked hard on their reins, their horses rearing to a halt. They flashed a Token and shouted, "The Liu Family of Yongzhou’s Frost Cloud Prefecture! By order of our Immortal, we are proceeding to Black Water City to investigate! All bystanders, clear the way at once!"

Hearing this, the expressions of the few Stewards changed.

Any family that needed to state their prefecture name after the province name was not a Half-Life Immortal Family.

But the Liu Family was different. While not Half-Life Immortals themselves, they were powerful vassals of the Qi Family of Yongzhou.

One look at their Spirit Horses was enough to tell.

They were out on private business, yet they were using mounts belonging to the Demon-slaying Bureau!

The Stewards were just about to step aside.

However, a young disciple strolled out from behind them. He looked to be in his twenties, yet he carried himself with an extraordinary air.

This disciple glanced at the Token in the riders’ hands and said nonchalantly, "The Yu Family is managing Black Water City. There is no need for outsiders to interfere. All of you, please turn back."

The lead rider frowned. Just as he was about to argue, he noticed something.

This disciple hadn’t said he was acting on the Yu Family’s orders, but had spoken directly of "my Yu Family."

The group subconsciously looked toward his waist.

There, they saw an exquisite Cyan Simurgh Jade Token hanging.

Only one who wore this Jade Token could represent the Yu Family in the mortal world and be considered a true World Traveler Disciple.

"We are not here to investigate Black Water City, but to find a lost item for our Immortal. We ask that the Yu Family’s World Traveler Disciple show us some consideration."

"Once the item is recovered, the Immortal will be sure to reward you generously!"

The group’s attitude softened considerably. They leaped down from their Spirit Horses and cupped their hands in a salute to the disciple.
