Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Cassie’s Dark Thought.
Rebecca raised her delicate eyebrows as she watched Cassie’s retreating back,.
"My goodness," Rebecca murmured, her voice laced with genuine concern as she turned back toward Derrick. "What on earth is wrong with your sister today?"
She paused for a brief second, her dark eyes softening with a sudden wave of understanding as a faint, gentle smile touched her lips.
"Though... I suppose it shouldn’t come as a total surprise," Rebecca continued softly, leaning back against the plush armchair.
"Ever since you two were little, you’ve been practically inseparable."
"Seeing you suddenly bring another woman into your life... she’s probably feeling terribly jealous and left behind, even if her pride won’t let her admit it."
Derrick remained quiet for a moment, his eyes resting on the closed kitchen door.
"Yeah," Derrick murmured, his voice deep as he stood up smoothly from the plush sofa. "I’ll go talk to her."
Rebecca smiled approvingly, giving him an encouraging nod.
"You do that," Rebecca replied, smoothing down the folds of her silk housegown as she gracefully rose from her chair. "I am sure she listens to you more than she listens to me."
"I think I’ll go take a warm bath and turn in for a long nap. My head feels a little heavy after that lunch, and since it’s Sunday, I don’t have to worry about work anyway."
She gave him one last affectionate glance before turning around, her soft footsteps fading up the grand staircase.
Derrick watched her leave before turning his attention back toward the kitchen.
Cassie stood near the counter with her back to him. The moment she felt him entering the pitching and coming close, she shot him a cold glare, but she didn’t say a single word.
Derrick didn’t pull back.
He stepped right up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her tight against his chest.
Cassie stiffened instantly. She tried to squirm out of his hold, shoving her elbows back to push him away. "Let go of me! Don’t touch me! Go back to your girlfriend!"
"Stop moving," Derrick said softly, his grip holding her firm so she couldn’t budge.
Realizing she couldn’t break free, Cassie let out an annoyed huff and stopped fighting, though she still refused to look at him.
"I’m taking you out tomorrow," Derrick said, his voice calm and steady against her ear. "Just the two of us."
"I don’t want to go anywhere with you," she snapped back.
"I’m not going to ask why you’re so mad about Beth," Derrick continued smoothly. "I already have a good idea why. That’s why we’re going to have a proper talk tomorrow... on our date."
Cassie’s heart skipped a beat at the word date.
She turned around in his arms and placed her hands against his chest, looking up into his black eyes.
She tried to keep her face stern, but the hurt in her eyes bled right through.
"Fine," Cassie whispered, her voice tight. "I’ll give you a chance to talk tomorrow... but only if you kiss me. Anywhere I want, and anytime I want."
Derrick shook his head slightly. "No. Not before we have our talk."
Cassie’s lip trembled, her tough front completely dropping. Her fingers dug into his shirt as she looked up at him with raw, desperate eyes.
"Then just one," Cassie begged softly, her breath hitting his chin. "Just give me one kiss right now, Derrick... please."
Looking down at her teary, vulnerable face, Derrick felt his hesitation fade away.
He let out a quiet sigh, his hand moving up to hold the back of her head.
"Fine," Derrick murmured softly. "Just one."
"Where do you want it?" Derrick asked softly, his eyes gazing down into hers.
Cassie didn’t say a word. She simply parted her lips slightly, her breathing shallow and warm against his chin.
Derrick leaned in, pressing his lips firmly against hers.
Cassie let out a soft, shuddering breath as her arms instantly flew around his neck, pulling him closer.
What was supposed to be a simple, quick kiss quickly deepened as she poured all her suppressed jealousy, frustration, and hidden desperation into it.
Derrick’s hand held the back of her head gently, guiding her as their lips moved together in a slow, intoxicating rhythm.
The quiet kitchen filled with the soft, breathy sounds of their shared warmth, the minutes melting away until the air between them ran completely out.
When Derrick finally pulled back, Cassie’s face was flushed a deep crimson, her lips swollen and damp as her black eyes unfocused slightly, still dazed by the long kiss.
"Get some rest," Derrick murmured, softly patting her cheek before turning around and leaving the kitchen.
He walked out and entered his room, closing the door behind him.
Instead of resting, he sat down at his desk and booted up his new PC.
’It’s time to complete the last few Chapters, the book is about to be completed soon, I wonder how the readers will like this ending.’
Outside, Cassie stood in the kitchen for a few quiet minutes, her hand gently touching her tingling lips.
’Just one kiss... and he completely ruined me,’ she thought, her heart still beating wildly against her ribs.
She didn’t rush back to their room right away.
She took her time calming her racing pulse, pouring herself a glass of cold water before slowly heading toward his room.
When she finally pushed Derrick’s bedroom door open, she found him completely absorbed in his work, the rapid clack of mechanical keys filling the quiet room.
Cassie didn’t interrupt him.
She walked over to his plush lounge chair, curled up on the soft leather, and pulled out her phone.
She opened the novel app, scrolled directly to his latest uploaded release, and began reading.
The story had already taken a crazy turn, after the second boyfriend of the female lead found out she had a different life outside the studios and also a second boyfriend, he bade his time and confronted the man.
When both the boyfriends came face to face, they finally learned the truth about the woman that she had been hiding from each of them.
’Should I go and talk face to face with Beth and let her know what she stole from me?’
Derrick had no idea what trouble was brewing inside Cassie’s head while he continued to work on his Chapters.
