Chapter 159: Chapter 159: What A Small World
[Mask of The Ruthless Trickster (A Grade): Allows the user to keep his identity hidden from all sorts of probes and detection skill. ]
Derrick and bought this mask from the system for more than a million social credits but it was worth every penny.
The mask had no definitive shape or patter. It was a plain white oval mask but the moment it touched Derrick’s face, it morphed.
It dissolved into his skin, changing his face completely.
’I look much older in this face. It’s not even remotely close to my old face.’ He did not turn himself ugly to hide his face, instead he just used a different face that was above average in looks.
After a minute, his cab descended from the air, taking him to the airport.
Derrick walked to the line where cameras started scanning his face but Derrick’s advanced AI was more than prepared for this.
"Access Granted. Please Enjoy Your Journey." A mechanical voice sounded from the speakers.
Instead of going through the trouble of waiting for a flight, Derrick once again took the teleportation circle.
"Where to sir?" Seeing him pay a hundred thousand social credits on the spot, the member of the airpot controlling the portal asked politely.
"Pearl City." With a few quick taps, the circle was ready for him.
Derrick stepped inside the circle.
With a blinding flash of light and a sudden shift in the air, he bypassed hours of travel in a single second.
When the light faded, he stepped out into the bustling arrival terminal of Pearl City.
Security guards and scanners lined the exit, but with his mask hiding his real identity and his advanced AI smoothing out the data, he cleared the checkpoint without a single hitch.
Right as he walked out of the main gate, Derrick saw someone holing a familiar name tag.
[Mr.Bush]
Seeing Derrick walking towards him, the middle aged guard straightened and confirmed, "Mr. Bush?"
Derrick confirmed his thoughts with a nod.
"Mr. Whitley. How far is the hotel?" Derrick leisurely walked behind the chauffeur as he led him to the car.
"Precisely, 3 Minutes Sir. If it had been day time, it would take much less." Mr. Whitley was a man easy to get along with.
When he saw Derrick was not one to put on the air of rich tycoon, he got even more enthusiastic while talking.
"Would you like to a tour of the city before we go to the hotel, sir?"
"Why not. Take me around." Even from the distance, Derrick could see towering skyscrapers and glowing holographic ads that lit up the night sky in blinding shades of neon pink, gold, and electric blue.
"The city never sleeps sit. Day or night, it all feels the same."
The streets were packed with high-end cars, flashy crowds, and people dressed to the nines, all rushing toward massive entertainment hubs and high-end venues.
Mr. Whitley took him around on a ride in his limo.
"Money, women, passion. People come to live here for all sorts of reasons. But I assume businessmen such as yourself only come once in a while for some special events."
The chauffeur was also his ride to the action for tomorrow, so it was naturally he knew about it.
"Speaking of which, by any chance can you tell me who might be attending the auction?" Derrick knew that some informations can only be found through people like Mr.Whitley.
"Ah." Mr. Whitley smiled mysteriously and said, "Usually its the same mid corporations that comes to look for special products but this time I have heard that many tycoons are joining the auction as well."
"The Jade Pharmaceuticals. You must have heard of them."
"The biggest Alchemy corporation?" Derrick was surprised, he did not expected them to be here as well. When he checked the roaster online, there was no mention of their company in there.
"Not only them. I heard the S Rank Hunter Team, The Red Rock Group, which is all filled of Superhero Realm Powerhouses. They are also here. Then There is some few other hunter rivals of theirs."
The list was not small.
And they were not weak either. ’Superhero realm powerhouses. I am going in a place filled with such monsters.’
Derrick could not help feel a bit nervous but along with that he also felt...
’Am I feeling excited? Why is my heart beating so fast? What an absurd idea.’ Shaking his head, Derrick enjoyed the quiet life of the city.
"Mr. Whitely. Do you know a place where I can enjoy a good pizza?" Derrick looked away from the window and asked. "And don’t say your hotel because I am craving a really good pizza."
The driver let out a nervous laugh before saying, "Well I know a place. Do you want me to take you there or bring the pizza to your room?"
"Hmmm. Let’s go back to Hotel and you can bring me 5 of them there. I like Margherita and or multi cheese whichever is available."
"As you wish, sir." After dropping Derrick at the entrance of a massive sky scraper which was the hotel, Mr. Whitely went away on the hunt for the best pizza he could find.
Naturally Derrick did not let him leave without 20,000 Social Credits, his tip included.
Derrick walked through the big glass doors into the hotel lobby. The place was huge, with shiny marble floors and massive lights hanging from the ceiling.
As he headed toward the reception desk, a loud, annoyed voice rang out from the lounge.
"Are you blind or what?!"
Derrick stopped and turned around.
A young bellboy was bowing again and again, looking terrified. "I’m so sorry, Miss! I tripped, I didn’t mean to—"
"I don’t care!" the girl snapped, dusting off her fancy jacket like it was covered in dirt. "Do you know how much this costs? Watch where you’re going!"
Derrick took one look at her and recognized her right away.
That arrogant voice, the spoiled attitude... There was no doubt about it. She was the exact same girl who had tried to force him to sell her that ancient cauldron back at the market.
