Hiss!

Derrick blinked his eyes in confusion.

For a second he thought he had died.

Again.

But when his eyes opened and he saw the familiar room, he let out a sigh of relief.

The glass of the pod opened, and Derrick stepped out.

"How does it feel?" Keira’s voice came from the table as he climbed out.

"Did you really have to go that far to take the data?" Derrick let out a groan and stretched his body.

"Of course. The precise the data is, the better I can judge." Like her student, Keira had no ounce of shame in her.

She did not tell him that she had gotten the data during the first try, and the rest of the simulation was her satisfying her amusement, watching him go through hell.

"Didn’t you say I have to climb to the top? Why did you stop only on the first floor?" Derrick looked confused.

"Oh, that was just to motivate you. The first floor was enough; besides, the enemies on the second floor and higher are stronger than the current ones you can handle." Hearing that, Derrick’s expression turned solemn.

"The good thing is that we finally know what type of weapon will suit you, and now we just have to find a perfect fit." Keira got up from the chair.

"Oh come on, Cheer up." Seeing Derrick staring at her looking like he was plotting her death, she smirked and smacked his back so hard he felt a stinging pain for a while.

"You took fewer than ten tries to finish the whole stage; you are almost as fast as I was during your age. And your technique was quite... unique as well."

Hearing the praise coming from her, the corner of Derrick’s mouth twitched.

"Whatever. What are we going to do next?" Derrick asked. "Are you going to choose a weapon for me?"

Keira smiled at his back. She had not told him, but Derrick might have been the first person who completed it as fast as her.

And at that time, she had been trained by her grandfather herself, who was now a retired soldier.

While derrick... he was just a simple civilian with no experience in warfare or such high-stress battles.

For someone so afraid of death, he sure knows how to take it.

"Calm your tits. Selecting a weapon is not as easy as snapping your finger." Keira slapped him in the back of his head.

"Hey! No smacking me."

"Tch, no fun." Clicking her tongue, she guided him to the side.

"Then let me slap you in return, and I will decide where." A vein popped on Derrick’s forehead.

"You wish." Keira shot back a glare while stopping in the far corner.

Every weapon here was arranged based on its effects and type.

"Long-range weapons?" Derrick looked at the rows of bows, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and all sorts of weapons of the category neatly arranged in their racks and asked in confusion.

"The way you fight is full of hesitation and fear. Instinctively you try to keep your distance from the enemy and aim for their weakness." Keira explained everything she had noticed about him.

"If you fight in close combat while doing shit like that, you will only get yourself killed. It is better for you to start long range and slowly find your rhythm."

"But..." Seeing the seriousness in her eyes, Derrick unconsciously straightened himself. "Don’t believe for a second that I am going to let you stay in the distance forever. Your records show you can fight at midrange, and your close range is even better."

"So, don’t get too comfortable with your choice." She stepped aside and added, "Now, pick something you think you can handle."

Derrick turned his attention to the rows of weapons lying beside them. His eyes immediately went to a strange pair lying right before him.

Their odd appearance caught his eyes.

They were circular disks.

Instead of circular disks with solid insides, they were more like hula hoops. The inside and the outside of the circle were sharp like a blade through and through.

"What are they?" Derrick asked in confusion, picking one with the small handle between the blades.

"They are called chakram blades." Keira explained while pointing at others just like this one, but they all varied in shape and size. "Some can spin in two or many pieces while you throw them, and the others are bigger than the size of an adult human’s head."

Derrick was about to throw it randomly at a wall, but a sharp glare from her stopped him.

He coughed awkwardly and placed them down back on the table.

"They are very hard to master; you would need months of training before you can even one properly, but they are deadly in all combat styles once you integrate them with your instincts perfectly."

Derrick tried other weapons, and in the end, the ones he felt the most familiar were guns and bows.

"That is a shapeshifting bow. It can twist and turn into a compound bow capable of piercing through a mammoth you had just faced in the VR simulator."

"You can also twist the two ends and reform it into a sword or a long sword based on your preference."

"Take the bow and pick a gun you like. While a gun would be better, you always run out of charge and need to rely on bows to back you up just in case."

Her eyes shifted from the guns hanging on the wall to all sorts of bows lying before her.

She casually picked out an ocean blue color bow that seemed to be made out of stone, but when she tapped it thrice, it split like a robot capable of shapeshifting.

"What if I run out of arrows?" Derrick asked innocently, to which Keira scoffed and proudly said, "There are twenty arrows in the bow itself. Each one of them is crafted using Ruthium alloys. Unless you encounter a captain-class beast, it won’t break."

"Now, get dressed."

Derrick was left confused by the sudden statement.

"Shouldn’t we train with the weapons in the simulations?" He asked.

Keira looked at him like she was dumb and said, "There is nothing better than learning in the real world while experiencing the real thrill of battle."

The color drained from Derrick’s face as he realized what she was talking about. "You don’t mean...?"

Seeing his expression, Keira seemed pleased and laughed like a sadist. "Oh, but I do. We are going to travel to the Red Areas and hunt down the beasts infesting the place."
