In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL]
Chapter 266: Fight The World (1)
Rise had always known that it was difficult to fight the author. It was not just because of their ability to manipulate the world, but even more so because of the fact that they did not know how to ’fight’ or ’kill’ the author.
In a sense, their presence seemed intangible. They would not know what to target exactly. So, most of their plans were concentrated on destroying the plot or even eventually killing Epsilon, the so-called protagonist.
However, this truth that they managed to uncover was simply a blessing in disguise.
The author, or the world consciousness’ sentient will, was still something they could barely contend. Yet, their situation somehow was not hopeless anymore.
Rise’s smile widened, thinking of the feasibility of his plan. He had finally seen hope. Perhaps... They could win, after all.
The author... was not some intangible presence anymore. It had a form. And... Its real form was something they could deal with.
"You are from the same origin. Say, if we let Kamille refine your core... Would it be possible to wipe the will’s sentience?"
Rise’s tone carried anticipation, eyes burning as he stared at the pages, waiting for its response.
He did not say destroy because he knew that their enemy was the sentient will, but not the World Consciousness itself. As for what happened as it gained awareness or desire, Rise did not care to know at the moment.
Moreover, destroying the World Consciousness itself probably would destroy their world immediately. Without asking it, Rise could perceive that if they truly did so, their world might fall in the same scenario as this world, with only one page remaining.
Kamille’s eyes flickered hearing Rise’s question. He already knew his role in this plan without being asked. And Rise asking the book this question meant, as long as it was feasible... he trusted that Kamille could do it.
The page glimmered as though pondering the feasibility of the plan. While it was the World Consciousness, its underlying rule, and also the disappearance of records made it pause.
Furthermore, if this plan was implemented... It meant that it was bowing its head to Kamille and being its owner. Although it did not have the emotion of the sentient will, it still complied with a certain code.
Kamille and Rise remained silent, not urging it. After a minute passed, the pages slowly flipped until it was almost at the end. Unlike the blank pages of earlier, this page was torn at the edge and had a black vortex in the middle.
[It’s possible.]
The words were not written on the surface but above the book, glitching slightly. Rise bit his lip, calming his racing heart. He could only lean strongly against Kamille’s chest, trying to keep him in place.
With bated breath, the two of them continued to wait for the rest of its words.
[Your plan is sound, and ’I’ gained insight that wiping the will’s sentience will make ’me’ whole again. This will also return the stability and balance of the world. The countless resets will finally end.]
The words continued.
[However, once you start refining ’our’ core, ’it’ will sense it. Regardless, if ’it’ remembers who it is. ’It’ will intercept us immediately. ’Its’ actions will be detrimental to the world, the natives, and ’our’ essence once this plan commences.]
Rise knew that once it started, Kamille could not be disturbed. In fact, the author’s or the will’s resistance was not surprising. At most, Kamille would probably find it troublesome, but dealing with it was only a matter of time.
Only that, his real body should not be disturbed.
"Distractions," Rise blurted out. His gaze shimmered with battle intent. "Before Kamille acts against the will, we’ll start a war of worlds. Once he starts, I’m sure they’ll target Kamille’s body. We need to catch it off guard."
Kamille also nodded.
"I don’t care about the backlash if we’re truly intercepted. It’ll only become trickier once it becomes on guard. I want to finish it with this chance."
Kamille could not just casually enter the core of the world whenever he wanted to. Even if he had the half permission of the owner, it was still considered sneaking inside.
And it was unlike the World Consciousness of this ruined world, but a complete and deranged one. The resistance would be far stronger even for him.
"So, do you have another idea to increase our chances? Like..." Suddenly, a name flashed in Rise’s mind.
Wait... Right, there was also such a person. He was focusing on the author so much that he momentarily forgot that bitch.
"Epsilon. What’s the deal with him? Is it possible that his identity has more weight for the author... or sentient will?"
Rise was more familiar with calling it "author" even if he already knew its real identity.
[Epsilon.]
The book flickered, and the words appeared above it once more.
[You’re right. Killing him will lessen the power of its resistance. Epsilon is the world’s child of destiny. Most of the world’s luck is concentrated in him.]
He already knew it, but Rise’s eyelids still twitched. Tsk. So, he was truly the so-called protagonist, huh, even if not by the book. In fact, his status was only upgraded from just being a book’s main character.
[Each world had one or more children of destiny. It’s a normal trajectory for each era to create one. However, Epsilon’s birth was unique and against the rules. He carried the mark of the sentient will.]
"Mark?"
[Yes.]
[After the unusual world resets, the world has long stopped creating children of destiny, aside from Epsilon. Time had stagnated and did not flow, only never-ending resets. Epsilon bears the fortune and misfortune of countless resets.]
[He had long stopped having his own identity. And the sentient will had already marked it.]
Rise was dumbfounded for a moment. A terrifying thought flashed into his mind. He blinked and mindlessly blurted out.
"You mean, the author is trying to gain a body through Epsilon?"
This time, the book answered quickly.
[Yes. The child of destiny’s consciousness, tainted by the sentient will, will eventually vanish, replaced by ’it.’]
Rise’s mouth went agape, unable to voice out another word. His mind spun through countless possibilities before eventually stopping at one question.
"Did it succeed? I mean, through countless resets... Did it successfully possess Epsilon’s body in some lives?"
[No. It had yet to succeed. ’I’ forgot any records, but the child of destiny’s consciousness had yet to fade; even the will couldn’t steal it. However, it should have almost succeeded.]
Rise swallowed some saliva.
Just thinking of the will having Epsilon’s body, who had the protagonist halo, while also having an ability to manipulate the world... Whoa, that was truly frightening.
[It did not succeed because it forgot and lost itself. Including its desires and the reason why it gained sentience. Currently, it was only an unstable entity without a mind of its own.]
[Only wanting one thing: to kill Rise and restart the world again.]
