In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL]

Chapter 275: The Journey Has Just Begun

  • Next Chapter

At first, the world will which had just awakened its self-awareness, wanted to pry the secrets of the two unrecorded travelers. When he could not leave with them, and they had no intention of telling him how to gain freedom...

This budding self-awareness earned another emotion... and that was resentment and jealousy.

It was the world consciousness and held authority over this world. For the first time ever, it initiated the most important protective mechanism protocol... World Reset.

If they did not want to take him or tell him how to become like them... It would trap them until they compromised!

And it won the gamble. Suddenly being subjected to the world’s hostility, Kamille and Rise, who was about to leave, were unable to do so.

In the first few times, they still retained their origin and could fight. But after countless more, by the time it reached an unimaginable number... Kamille and Rise lost themselves.

They were reduced to this state, failing to even recognize who they truly were or their purpose in this world.

Rise sighed deeply; emotions surged inside him, making his chest ache. Was it regret? No, it was far more than that.

He mourned that self he had lost. He always wondered, through countless resets, how much of it truly remained of himself? Now, he finally knew.

It stole almost all of him. Not just from him.

Rise looked at Kamille, not concealing the emotions in his eyes. He felt sorry for both of them.

"Guild Leader," Rise whispered, holding him tight. Perhaps also bearing the same heavy emotions, Kamille did not say anything and only held him.

The two embraced each other, lamenting for their real selves they barely remember. They almost forgot the book or the world will. No, they hated it to the point that they almost became numb through it all.

They wanted to feel each other’s presence more.

It was already at its final moments, and they could do nothing about it any longer.

The book continued to glow brighter until the mist surrounding it was barely there.

"My blockade to this world has disappeared. Both of you can finally leave."

Its voice was barely audible, and only the two of them could hear beside their ears.

Rise glared at it with resentment as he spoke harshly.

"Heh. We can leave, but how? We don’t even know where to go."

Since the two of them had forgotten being ’travelers,’ they did not have any impressions of the myriad worlds at all. They did not know what to expect.

For Rise, these words were just a provocation, making him displeased.

"Tell us what you know, consider it an atonement." Though Kamille said it, he never had any intention of forgiving it. If it was possible, he was even prepared to torment it for countless years too.

Unfortunately, it needed to be wiped out for the system of the world to return to normal.

Rise bit his lips, wanting to say more, but he was also aware that if they needed to really leave the world... Every piece of information they could come across was extremely important.

"’It’ will tell you."

It spoke barely a whisper, just lingering in their ears.

The final gaze swept over them. Most of its emotions were concentrated in that gaze. Sadness, envy, unwillingness, jealousy... The two could feel it most vividly.

Rise and Kamille did not even bat an eyelid at the emotions it conveyed. It was never a victim and did not need a shred of their sympathy.

If anything, it was the cause of all these messes. The farce went on for countless years because of its whim for freedom.

In an instant the gaze disappeared, the mist surrounding the book completely faded, and it exuded a different luster. The light was not as blinding, and it finally appeared complete.

They knew that the world will was truly gone. However, just to make sure, Rise asked.

"It’s gone?"

The familiar pages were flipped until the end, and the words appeared with accompanying voice through their minds.

[The self-awareness of the world will have been successfully resolved. From now on, the trajectory of this world will finally move forward toward the future.]

Its monotonous tone was finally the one Rise was familiar with.

[As per the Myriad Worlds Protocol, this world will enter a recuperation state and won’t accept any visitors until the origin is recovered. Additionally, the world reset mechanism is firmly locked as a precaution in case of any similar incidents.]

[As per the Myriad Worlds Protocol, this locked state will be lifted once Guardian (Rise and Kamille) returns to their complete state.]

Rise’s eyebrows shot up at this. So they became guardians of this world, huh? And this protocol something acknowledged their incomplete states.

He continued reading and listening to it.

[As per the Myriad Worlds Protocol, the world entered the world network again, and the Star Portal has been restored. Due to instability and restrictions for Travelers, only Guardian (Rise and Kamille) can use it.]

The next part was what truly earned their attention. Kamille and Rise even exchanged a glance once they read it. It was as though they were trying to gauge the reaction of each other from their gaze alone.

Soon, a familiar smile appeared on their lips. Rise’s gaze sparkled with excitement. Kamille stared at it for a while before he too smiled and nodded.

Kamille’s heart settled seeing that smile. Whatever uncertainty awaited them, be it another despair, he was willing to face it once more.

Rise was truly excited, and his emotions, dampened by what he discovered, lifted again. The two looked again at the book and the text written on it.

[A summons from Myriad Worlds Association arrives for Traveler Rise Lee and Traveler Kamille Han. In an event of exhausted origin, travelers are expected to enter the vast expanse to search for their travel records and imprints across Myriad Worlds to restore the lost origin...]

The words then disappeared as something abruptly replaced them.

[Travelers Rise and Kamille, an official bonded pair, are expected to report in the same worlds to search and recover traveler records to restore their lost origin. A restriction is thereby imposed.]

Rise grinned reading about them being a bonded pair. Heh, he knew that already! Feeling happy about that information, his grin did not diminish immediately but only slightly faded upon reading that last sentence.

"What restriction is it?" He could not help but ask. Why did it seem not to be a complete sentence?

However, the book was unlike the one he spoke to before, and it had no individual will to answer him.

Instead, it was Kamille who responded to him.

"It seems we won’t know until we start this journey."

What else could Rise do but agree? It proved to be true when, besides that, there was no continuation when the words disappeared on the page.

If he was excited by the earlier words, this time he became silent. At his side, Kamille let out a sigh. Even someone like him, who seemed unfazed by anything except when it was about Rise, was affected.

[Travelers Rise and Kamille can enter the Star Portal anytime to begin the mission.]

This was not the reason they fell silent.

[Due to lost world origin, restrictions have been imposed.]

[Errors patching up... Successful]

[Normal world trajectory returned, concept law is stable. Outsiders/Travelers are forced into a dormant state aside from Guardian (Rise and Kamille).

Thalia, Niftan (status: dormant state due to lost origin)

Mitchel (status: evicted, dormant state due to lost origin)

Riri (status: returning to origin, dormant state)

Epsilon (status: dormant state, world unable to gestate child of destiny)]

[Dormant status will be lifted once world origin is restored and/or Guardian (Rise and Kamille) returns to complete state.]

[Errors and cleanup completed. The system will shut down for recuperation. Star Portal can only be used once this time, with an indefinite cooldown or until Guardian returns to complete state.]

[Wishing you... a safe journey]

Rise blinked at that last sentence before the book closed and disappeared.

Silence pervaded the two for a moment. Rise stared in a daze at the location where the book was just a moment ago; the surrounding vast sea of stars as the backdrop made him all the more melancholic.

"We couldn’t even say goodbye," Rise bit his lip. While he did not care for most names the book pointed out, Thalia, his father, and most especially his son... were someone precious to him.

Now they were in a dormant state, and he did not know when he would see them again. If only he knew... he visited them after he returned from the noble’s world. Instead, he went straight to fighting Epsilon.

Rise truly experienced a roller coaster of emotions in a span of a few minutes. He even felt that the exhaustion of fighting with Epsilon returned as he leaned on Kamille’s chest for support.

Kamille held him, caressing his back in assurance.

"We’ll see them again soon."

Rise nodded. "But still..." he let out a sigh. "Kamille... everything feels surreal. You know, I had a lot of thoughts at the end of this war, but this isn’t one of those."

Who would have thought they were so-called Travelers that were trapped by the world because of jealousy? And it was not just them. Although he did not know how Thalia, his father, and even Mitchel arrived in this world.

They were surely travelers like them, and they knew them before. One thing was certain: they came to this world after Rise and Kamille became trapped.

Were they here to rescue them? Rise could only speculate in his mind. Once again, questions piled up more just as they thought they had reached the answers they sought.

Rise looked up at Kamille.

"Riri... his birth lies on the myriad worlds, right? Will we come across his origin? "

Riri was undoubtedly their biological son but was not born from this world. There was only one possibility... He was born in a world where both males could reproduce.

Thinking of this, aside from being emotional, Rise was a bit flustered. Kamille saw it and smile, taking advantage of that flicker of emotion to distract Rise.

"I’m also curious... how we conceived him."

Sure enough, Rise blushed slightly.

"Who knows."

Kamille could not help but laugh. He embraced Rise and inhaled his scent, finally relaxing.

"Let’s recuperate first. Where do you want to go?" he asked. Rise nodded and whispered, for which made Kamille chuckle once more. "Sure, wherever you want to go."

The two did not immediately start their journey, and they returned to the world, which became part of them despite it being their prison for countless years.

Due to the world reset, it returned to how it should be. There were still gates, monsters, and fighting, but it was the normal concept of this world.

Rise and Kamille’s identity was now unknown, and so they could wander around without being recognized. They visited the Union, where Rise spent most of his time.

It was still the same Union, but there was no troublemaker Rise anymore, nor Union General Niftan, who loved to indulge his son. They did not linger for long before they also came across Evergreen Guild without Thalia, or Blue Guild without Mitchel.

Their pace was not fast, wanting to just relax after that war. They also knew that there was uncertainty waiting for them.

"Look at Hayes, he’s the Guild Leader?" Rise laughed, watching the Dark Crimson Guild. Since Kamille was out of the question, it seemed the world had fixed it to Hayes being the Guild leader.

Kamille also smiled at that. It would be a lie to say he had no affection towards the guild. Thinking about it, his childhood memories in this world were real and certainly not just fabricated.

Rise and Kamille knew it was because world resets had no fixed time period of their return. Especially so as they gradually lose themselves.

"It’s fine this way. They don’t need to be a top guild, living is enough."

Rise also agreed. Just like Kamille, he had a good memory of the Dark Crimson guild, and so he was more carefree here. He kind of missed bickering with Hayes. But ultimately he refrained from contacting the other party.

The two of them just wandered around for two months, visiting places where it was once part of them. Or at least, to those places that they had memories of.

Eventually, they had to face the reality.

Rise sat in Kamille’s lap. They were naked, with only a blanket enveloping the two of them as they gazed towards the distance. The city was quiet, just like any other green zone.

"I wonder what it’s like in other worlds? I can’t imagine it at all."

Kamille kissed the crown of his head, embracing him further. He did not have any expectations, and so he did not utter a word.

Rise relaxed in his hold.

"Let’s find ourselves and return here to wake them," Rise said with conviction.

Though he knew it would not be easy, being with Kamille... Nothing was impossible.

Kamille looked at him and nodded. "We will."

The two stared at each other and soon became lost in each other. They naturally leaned their faces and shared a passionate kiss. It was also a seal or a promise.

The next day, the two stood at the portal in front of them. Their hands were intertwined. What was on the other side? None of them knew.

It would be a lie to say he was not nervous. Rise tightened his hold on Kamille, who did the same. Staring at the portal for a moment, the two shifted their gaze to one another.

"Are you ready, Guild Leader?"

"Are you?"

Rise chuckled and tiptoed to land a kiss on Kamille’s lips, who gently responded. As they parted, their gazes lingered.

"Good luck kiss."

Kamille sighed and kissed him again. For a while, the two kissed passionately. It was as though they were savoring it, as none of them knew when they would be able to do so again.

"I’ll always be yours, Rise," Kamille whispered in Rise’s ear.

Rise nodded silently and squeezed the other’s hand.

"Me too, Kamille. No matter what... Let’s always find each other."

The two prepared themselves for the uncertain journey amidst expectations and anxiety. With their fingers intertwined, the two entered the portal towards the unknown.

From here on, the journey has just begun.

>The answer is both No and Yes. If you want to stop the journey and are satisfied with this ending, you can. This is the conclusion of this book. The two will now journey in a vast expanse; while not detached from the narrative, it is considered an expansion. So yeah, IN THIS REBIRTH, THE MALE LEAD IS MINE ends here, narrative-wise.
