Chapter 100: Sword Art: Blood Moon Severs the Netherworld
"Thank you for gathering in one place."
Hearing this, everyone in the central plaza felt a chill run through them.
He looked at the twin brothers with a smile. "Twins, let me show you one of my skills."
"Sword Art," Chen Luo whispered yet his voice echoed in the ears of every assassin. "Blood Moon Severs the Netherworld."
Behind him, a massive, illusory moon, dripping with blood, slowly rose into the air.
As the blood moon reached its zenith, it shattered into thousands of thin, almost invisible blood red threads. These threads moved faster than the eye could track, slipping through the gaps in the defensive shield.
Then The blood threads easily passed through the bodies of the Vice Guild Master, the ten elders and the fifty shadow guards. For a split second, they stood completely still. Then, their eyes rolled back and their bodies simultaneously dissolved into a fine, bloody mist, merging with the red light of the moon.
The defensive shield shattered into tiny pieces. The core members of the Blood River Assassination Guild was wiped out in a single strike.
Chen Luo gently shook the sword, flicking off the few drops of blood on its blade, then sheathed it.
"Brother Chen, the formation is at its limit," One of the twin called out from the roof.
"Lift it," Chen Luo replied calmly.
The twins retracted their spiritual energy, and the pitch black dome dissolved into the air. The three of them didn’t look back at the carnage. They simply stepped into the shadows and vanished without a trace.
After the formation was lifted, the hidden valley was left in a state of eerie silence. The ground was coated in a thick layer of red frost, and the air was filled with a dense reddish mist that clung to the walls and trees.
This was Blood Energy.
In the cultivation world, when a cultivator dies a violent death, their essence, spiritual energy and deep resentment do not dissipate into heaven and earth normally. Instead, they condense into a toxic, sticky miasma. Because hundreds of assassins had been slaughtered in this confined space and because the twins had used high tier materials to trap and amplify the spiritual pressure, the blood energy had taken into a physical form of a corrosive fog. It was the undeniable mark of a massive, one sided massacre.
Not long after, the subtle fluctuations of the blood energy attracted attention of others.
The first to come where the scouts from the factions in the Inner Area of Jade City, followed by spies from the Black Tiger Gang and other underground factions. They hid in the trees at the edge of the valley, taking look at the terrifying, suffocating blood energy and the completely annihilated headquarters.
Their faces turned pale. None of them dared to step inside. They silently retreated, their minds racing with all kinds of guesses, but ultimately concluded that the Blood River Assassination Guild had likely suffered a massive internal rebellion or they had been targeted by a hidden, terrifying expert.
A moment later, two figures in gray cloaks appeared on a nearby cliff. They wore badge of the Cloudwater Sect.
"Senior Brother," the younger cloaked figure whispered, his eyes widening as he sensed the residual aura. "The aura here is extremely sinister. Should we report this to the Sect? This might also be doing of demonic cult."
The older cloaked figure snorted coldly, his eyes filled with disdain. "Report? For this? Look at the blood energy. It’s just the underground rats fighting among themselves. They probably killed each other over some dirty business. Let the others deal with such gutter trash. We have more important things to do. Let’s go."
With a sweep of his sleeves, the two cultivators turned and left, completely dismissing the annihilation of a major underground base as a power struggle violence.
Several hours later, the sky began to darken and the blood energy grew even thicker.
The remaining scattered members of the Blood River Assassination Guild began to return. These were the assassins who had been out on missions or delivering secret messages.
The Brother of the Vice Guild Master, a Peak Foundation Establishment Realm expert, was the first to arrive. When he stepped into the valley and saw the main hall reduced to ruins, the ground coated in red frost and the overwhelming blood energy, his legs instantly went soft.
"Brother? Guild Master? Elders?!" he shouted with trembling voice.
But there was no answer. Only wind howling through the valley.
Panic and horror completely consumed him. He immediately bit his tongue, spitting out a mouthful of essence blood onto a black talisman.
Boom!
A blood red flare shot into the sky, exploding into the shape of a bloody river. This was the highest level emergency signal of the Blood River Assassination Guild, meant only for the absolutely worst case scenario.
Within an hour, over six hundred assassins from all over the city and the surrounding mountains gathered at the ruined central plaza. They were all elite of the elite members, the real backbone of the guild’s external operations.
Looking at the devastating scene, the crowd was in an uproar.
"Who did this?!"
"Where is the Guild Master? Where are the elders?!"
"Could it be the Cloudwater Sect?"
"Calm down! We still have the Brother of Vice Guild Master. We must find out the truth and take revenge!"
The Brother of Vice Guild Master was about to speak, his face twisted in grief and rage, when the sky above them suddenly darkened.
A massive, oppressive pitch black formation instantly descended from the sky, sealing off every inch of the plaza. The spiritual energy became incredibly heavy, pressing down on the six hundred assassins, making it hard for them to even breathe.
"What?! A formation?!" He shrieked in shock.
From within the deep shadows of the ruined Guild Master’s hall, three figures slowly walked out.
It was Chen Luo, flanked by the twin brothers.
Chen Luo’s hands were clasped behind his back. On his face was a gentle smile.
"I was wondering how long it would take for you rats to crawl back into your nest," Chen Luo said. "I’ve been hiding here, waiting for you. Now that everyone’s here, I don’t have to waste time looking for you anymore."
His pupils contracted as shock flashed across his face. He finally understood. The person who destroyed the headquarters hadn’t left. He had set up a trap to catch all the scattered fish in one net.
"Kill him! They are only three person! We have Sux hundred elites! Kill him!!" He roared, pushing his cultivation to the limit, leading the crowd in a suicidal charge.
Chen Luo didn’t even draw his sword thi time.
He simply took a step forward and raised a finger.
With a casual motion, he slashed through the air.
A blindingly pure white flash illuminated the dark valley. It was so fast that it didn’t even create a sound.
The light passed through the crowd like a hot knife through butter.
The charging assassins froze. A thin red line appeared on the neck of every single person in the front row. Then the second row. Then the third.
Thud
Thud
Thud
Six hundred bodies collapsed to the ground simultaneously. Not a single one was left standing. The Vice Guild Master’s brother’s head rolled to a stop at Chen Luo’s feet, his eyes still wide with disbelief and terror.
Chen Luo looked over the sea of corpses with a satisfied look on his face.
"Mission accomplished," he said softly.
From this day forward, the Blood River Assassination Guild, a name that had struck fear into the underground world for decades was officially and completely erased from the face of the world.
Like Meihua ordered, not a single one was left behind.
