Chapter 66: The Wrong Prey and Throwing Talismans Like Trash

  • Next Chapter

Yu Liang’s smile remained on his face as he looked at the four cultivators standing before him. However, what they didn’t know was that he had been aware of their presence long before they revealed themselves.

When he had first left his residence, everything had seemed normal. He was on his way to the restaurant after finishing his seclusion, thinking about what he should eat once he arrived. But halfway through the journey, he suddenly felt something strange pressing against his spirit. His thoughts became sluggish, his vision blurred slightly, and the surrounding sounds seemed to grow distant.

It was an attack on his spiritual sense.

Fortunately, the talisman Lin Meihua had repeatedly nagged him to carry had finally proven its worth. The protective talisman activated the moment the spiritual attack touched his consciousness, shielding his spirit and preventing the foreign force from taking control of his mind.

Yu Liang himself hadn’t even realized how useful his heightened senses had become until that moment. Because his spiritual perception had improved after his recent breakthrough, he noticed something else hidden beneath the spiritual disturbance, a faint probing sensation coming from the direction of the forest.

Confirming aomeone was watching him.

Rather than exposing them, Yu Liang decided to play along.

He allowed his expression to become vacant and continued walking as though his mind had already fallen under the influence of the hallucination. He followed the path they had prepared for him, occasionally making himself look confused whenever the illusion attempted to guide his thoughts.

In reality, he was perfectly conscious.

He simply wanted to see who was behind it.

And now, he had his answer.

"You really think you lured me here?"

Yu Liang’s voice was calm, but the smile on his face made the leader’s expression stiffen.

For some reason, the man suddenly felt uncomfortable.

He couldn’t explain why.

Everything had gone according to plan. Their target had entered the forest, the spiritual illusion had worked, and they had surrounded him without alerting anyone in the city.

Yet the reaction in front of him wasn’t what he expected.

"Enough!" The leader’s eyes narrowed. "Attack!"

The three early stage Foundation Establishment cultivators immediately moved.

They didn’t hold back anything.

The moment they received the order, spiritual energy erupted from their bodies. One attacked from the front with a powerful palm strike, another moved toward Yu Liang’s side while wielding a spiritual weapon, and the third launched a technique from behind.

The difference between their cultivation levels was enormous.

Yu Liang was only at the fifth layer of the Qi Condensation Realm.

Compared to a Foundation Establishment cultivator, he was several major steps behind. Normally, even a single early stage Foundation Establishment cultivator would be enough to put immense pressure on him. The gap between realms wasn’t something that could simply be ignored because of a few clever tricks.

Foundation Establishment cultivators possessed greater quality of spiritual energy, stronger bodies, more powerful techniques, and vastly superior combat experience.

If Yu Liang relied solely on his cultivation, he would have no chance.

Unfortunately for them, Yu Liang had never said he intended to fight them with his cultivation or fairly in that matter.

Boom!

The three attacks struck him almost simultaneously.

But instead of blood spraying across the forest, a transparent barrier appeared around Yu Liang.

The attacks crashed against it and exploded outward.

The surrounding trees shook violently as spiritual energy swept through the area.

Yu Liang stood inside the transparent curtain without moving.

Not even his clothes were disturbed.

The three cultivators stared in disbelief.

The leader’s eyes narrowed. "A defensive talisman?"

Yu Liang glanced at the barrier surrounding himself before looking back at them.

"Oh."

He nodded thoughtfully.

"So you noticed."

The leader’s expression darkened. "Don’t stop! Break it!"

The three cultivators gritted their teeth and attacked again.

This time, they used even more spiritual energy.

One strike after another slammed into the transparent barrier. The barrier rippled continuously, but despite the force behind their attacks, it refused to collapse.

The three cultivators gradually became anxious.

Their attacks were becoming stronger but the barrier remained as it is.

Yu Liang watched them for a while before letting out a irritating sigh.

"Tch, tch."

The three men looked at him.

Yu Liang shook his head with genuine disappointment. "I thought I finally had a chance to show off."

He looked at the barrier. "But you guys can’t even break this?"

The leader’s face turned ugly. "Impossible."

He could tell that the defensive talisman was powerful, but he had assumed that repeated attacks from three Foundation Establishment cultivators would eventually destroy it.

Yet after so many attacks, the barrier hadn’t even shown signs of collapsing.

The leader gritted his teeth.

"Keep attacking! A defensive talisman has a limit. Once its energy is exhausted, the barrier will disappear!"

Yu Liang almost laughed.

They really thought he had only prepared one defensive talisman.

He reached into his storage pouch.

The leader immediately became alert.

"What is he doing?"

Yu Liang pulled out a talisman.

The three cultivators relaxed slightly when they saw it.

A Tier Two talisman.

One of them sneered. "He’s throwing Tier Two talismans?"

Another laughed. "Does he really think those can hurt us?"

The leader’s expression also eased.

Tier Two talismans were useful against Qi Condensation Realm cultivators, but Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators could defend against them without too much difficulty.

Yu Liang didn’t bother answering.

He simply threw the talisman.

The talisman flew through the air before bursting into flames.

"Defend!"

The three cultivators immediately circulated their spiritual energy.

The flame exploded against their defenses.

Before the flames had even disappeared, another talisman flew toward them.

Then another.

Then another.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

The forest began to shake continuously.

The three cultivators initially dealt with the attacks without much concern.

One talisman wasn’t difficult.

Ten weren’t difficult either.

Even several dozen could still be handled.

But Yu Liang didn’t stop. He kept pulling talismans from his storage pouch and throwing them forward.

Fire.

Ice.

Wind blades.

Earth spikes.

Lightning.

Every time one was activated, only a tiny amount of Yu Liang’s Qi was consumed.

For him, there was almost no pressure.

But for the three Foundation Establishment cultivators, however, constantly defending against the attacks was another story.

Their spiritual energy was being consumed little by little.

Their expressions slowly became serious.

"How many does this guy have?" One of them shouted while blocking another wave of attacks.

Yu Liang didn’t answer.

He simply threw another handful.

The three cultivators’ faces began to change.

Hundreds of Tier Two talismans had already been used.

Their arms were becoming numb from constantly defending, their spiritual energy had dropped considerably, and their breathing had grown heavier.

Yet Yu Liang was still standing behind his defensive barrier with almost bored expression.

The leader finally understood the problem.

This wasn’t a battle they could finish quickly.

It was a battle of endurance.

And they were losing it slowly.

"That bastard..." One of the cultivators gritted his teeth as another explosion forced him backward. "He doesn’t care about wasting talismans!"

Yu Liang heard him and smiled. "Wasting?"

He pulled out another stack. "Who said they’re being wasted?"

The man’s face turned pale.

Then next wave came.

Then another.

Then another.

At first, they had thought Yu Liang’s wealth was merely exaggerated.

Now they were beginning to understand just how terrifyingly wealthy this guy was. Most cultivators would be lucky to have a few Tier Two talismans, yet this guy was throwing them out one after another as casually as scraps of paper.

The leader’s expression became increasingly grim. "Retreat for a moment!"

But before they could move, another series of talismans flew toward them.

They were forced to defend again.

The leader’s eyes widened in anger. ’This lunatic wasn’t even giving them time to recover.’

Yu Liang stood behind the transparent barrier and watched their increasingly desperate expressions.

A wicked smile slowly appeared on his face. "Come on. You can do it."

He reached into his storage pouch once more and pulled out another thick stack of talismans.

The leader’s heart sank and his face went completely pale. "Wait... How many do you have?!"

Yu Liang tilted his head as if genuinely thinking about the question.

Then he smiled. "Enough."

Another fire talisman flew out.

The explosion shook the forest.

The three cultivators desperately raised their defenses again.

For the first time, the confidence they had carried when entering the forest had completely disappeared.

They had come here believing that Yu Liang was a weak cultivator who had somehow gotten lucky in business.

They had thought killing him would be easy.

Now they were trapped in a forest with a man who possessed a defensive talisman they couldn’t break and seemingly endless Tier Two talismans that he was throwing at them without the slightest hesitation.

Yu Liang watched them struggle, his smile grew wider.

"So..."

He casually picked up another talisman.

"Who was supposed to kill whom again?"
