Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 397: Eureka, the Hungry Princess
Chapter 397: Chapter 397: Eureka, the Hungry Princess
Once she realized what kind of being stood before her.
The corner of Seraphina Sullivan’s mouth twitched uncontrollably.
A sense of foreboding, equal parts absurd and grave, washed over her.
’No way... Not again! In this supposedly fairytale realm, have I run into another god?’
Seraphina pushed down the storm raging inside her.
She forced herself to remain calm.
Her gaze then refocused on the golden-haired man before her—devastatingly handsome, yet radiating an unknown danger.
Eureka, it seemed, took a flicker of interest in Seraphina’s brief daze and her swift return to composure.
A faint smile graced his flawless face—a smile so subtle, yet potent enough to make any young maiden’s heart skip a beat.
He spoke again, his voice cool and clear as he sought to confirm something.
"You’re the new Pastry Chef for the banquet?"
Seraphina’s expression immediately returned to normal.
Even knowing the glowing, handsome man before her was no ordinary person, she maintained a posture that was neither servile nor haughty, her voice steady.
"Yes. I’m the new assistant pastry chef, Seraphina Sullivan. Madame Spider sent me to assist the head chef with dessert creation and quality control."
Her mind raced as she replied.
’Whatever his background, he seems to be a supervisor or some other important figure in the dessert section. At the very least, I can’t afford to offend him. Besides, he hasn’t shown any hostility so far.’
At her words, Eureka nodded slightly. His azure eyes seemed capable of piercing one’s soul, yet they remained as calm as a placid lake.
"Very good."
He uttered two simple words, his gaze sweeping over Seraphina and seeming to linger on her for an extra moment.
Seraphina felt as if he’d seen right through her.
He then turned and walked deeper into the dessert section.
"Come with me. You need to get familiar with your workstation and the main dessert menu for tonight’s banquet. We don’t have much time."
His gait was elegant and composed.
The halo around him swayed gently with his movements, leaving a faint trail of light in his wake.
Seraphina watched his retreating figure, shrouded in a soft halo and so handsome he seemed unreal.
Taking a deep breath, she forcibly suppressed the doubts and wariness churning within her and hurried to catch up.
Along the way, wherever the golden-haired man—whose name she still didn’t know—passed, everyone stopped what they were doing.
Whether it was the tall, blue-skinned giant pastry chefs,
the multi-limbed, insectoid Pastry Chefs,
or the floating Slime confectioners—all of them stopped their work.
They bowed to him respectfully, their faces filled with undisguised awe.
Even the little marshmallow guide who had led her here curled into a ball, shivering as it scurried to the side.
This silent reverence only confirmed Seraphina’s suspicions: this "person’s" status was anything but ordinary.
He might even be superior to Madame Spider, the general manager.
"Excuse me... how should I address you?"
Seraphina asked tentatively, carefully choosing her words.
In a place like this, knowing someone’s name could provide more information and facilitate communication.
The golden-haired man walking ahead didn’t break his stride, merely glancing back over his shoulder.
His perfect profile was thrown into sharp relief by the halo, and his voice was as cool and melodious as before.
"Oh, I seem to have forgotten to introduce myself. You may call me—Eureka."
"Eureka..." Seraphina repeated the name softly.
"Mm," Eureka responded.
He continued, "Madame Spider has already told me about you. She said the new Pastry Chef’s skills are exceptional, and that she was quite amazed by the cake you made.
I am one of the chief organizers for the Princess’s birthday banquet.
I’m mainly responsible for the ceremony’s proceedings, guest reception, and... the overall coordination of the catering.
Should you have any questions or require anything in the dessert section, you may report directly to me."
Seraphina felt a slight chill.
’One of the chief organizers? So his position really is high. And from the sound of it, he’s on par with Madame Spider, if not higher up. The power structure in the Peach Kingdom seems pretty complicated.’
Outwardly, she remained calm and nodded. "Understood, Eureka."
However, before Eureka could lead her to her designated workstation and detail her tasks, the unexpected happened.
Two pink frog guards, clad in uniforms with pink trim and looking even more "delicate" than the ones she’d met earlier, came hopping frantically from the other end of the corridor.
Panic and terror were written all over their faces.
"L-Lord Eureka! Something terrible has happened!"
one of the pink frog guards cried out, his voice trembling as he hopped about.
"The Princess! The Princess... she’s hungry again!
She’s become very agitated!
She’s in her chambers, crying her eyes out and refusing to stop, demanding the freshest, most delicious dessert right now!
None of the handmaidens can calm her down, and Her Majesty the Queen has ordered you to find a solution at once!"
The other guard added anxiously.
"Yes, my lord! The banquet hasn’t even begun, so the head chefs are all busy preparing desserts for the main feast. They can’t be pulled away, and there’s no time to make a small batch... What are we supposed to do?!"
’The Princess is hungry? Agitated?’ Seraphina mused.
After listening to their panicked report, the beautiful, seemingly eternal smile on Eureka’s face didn’t falter in the slightest. He even let out a soft, intrigued "Oh?" before turning his head.
His gaze fell upon Seraphina, who was standing beside him.
His gaze was clear and gentle, and the curve of his lips deepened slightly, blossoming into a perfect smile that could outshine the stars.
Yet, when he looked at her, Seraphina felt none of the warmth his smile promised. Instead, she instantly broke out in goosebumps!
An indescribable chill—a mixture of profound unease and a premonition of danger—shot straight up her spine!
’That smile... It’s too practiced, too perfect. It makes it feel... wrong!’
It was like a meticulously crafted, flawless mask, concealing all true emotion and intent beneath it.
"As it happens," Eureka said in his melodious voice, as if stating the most obvious fact.
"A new pastry chef of outstanding skill has just arrived for the banquet. The Princess requires a dessert, and we have a new Pastry Chef. Isn’t it a perfect coincidence?"
The moment he finished speaking, the two pink frog guards’ gazes swiveled to Seraphina like a pair of searchlights.
The terror in their eyes vanished, instantly replaced by fervent hope!
"A Pastry Chef?! Wonderful!" The first guard was so excited he nearly jumped out of his skin. He rushed over to Seraphina and grabbed her arm without a word of explanation.
"Hurry! Come with us! The Princess can’t wait! Forget about the banquet desserts for now; calming the Princess is what’s important!"
Seraphina was a little stunned by this sudden "great responsibility" being thrust upon her, but she didn’t resist.
She let the two frantic pink frog guards hustle her along, one on each side, as they hurried away from the dessert section.
She glanced back.
Eureka was still standing in the same spot, that perfect, flawless, and utterly chilling smile still fixed on his face.
