Chapter 454: Chapter 454: Research Results, Barrier Breaker Type I

"Now, let’s see what Dr. Ford can come up with."

"It looks like we’ll be staying here for a while," Seraphina Sullivan said in a low voice.

Chet Lucius agreed. "Yeah, research takes time, and it’s not safe outside.

We need to guard this place well."

Meanwhile, Flora Sullivan was in charge of comforting and caring for the frightened Sharon Lynn. She found a relatively clean corner for her, laid out a blanket, and "found" some food and water.

Just then, Flora Sullivan, who had been keeping watch by the window, suddenly whispered, "Sullivan, outside... I think there’s a commotion.

Those thugs from before... it looks like they’re starting trouble."

Seraphina Sullivan and Chet Lucius immediately went to the window, carefully lifting a corner of the torn curtain to peer outside.

Night had completely fallen, with only the hazy moonlight and the occasional flicker of distant fires providing any illumination.

Down below, amidst the previously silent ruins, shadowy figures moved about as a clamor of shouts, cries, and sporadic gunfire erupted!

It was coming from the direction of the group of survivors who had blocked their path earlier in the day.

"Something’s wrong!" Seraphina Sullivan’s gaze sharpened. "It’s not just infighting!

Something’s moving... They’re small monsters!

More than one!"

In the moonlight, agile black shapes could be seen darting through the ruins, pouncing on the panicked human figures.

The faint roars of monsters and the death screams of humans could be heard.

Watching the chaotic and bloody scene below, Chet Lucius frowned slightly and asked subconsciously, "Should we... save them?"

He was taken aback the moment the words left his mouth.

Seraphina Sullivan shot him a look that said it all. ’Are you out of your mind? They tried to rob us today, and now you want us to save them?’

Chet Lucius immediately realized his words sounded a bit too idealistic, which wasn’t in line with his usual way of doing things. He quickly cleared his throat and corrected himself. "*Cough*, I mean... we need to ensure our own safety here.

If those monsters are drawn by the scent of blood, or if they kill everyone over there, they’ll likely spread out and might even find their way to us.

We have to hold this building. There can’t be any screw-ups before Dr. Ford finishes his research."

That explanation was much more reasonable.

Seraphina Sullivan nodded. "Exactly. We just need to hold our position.

As long as the monsters don’t attack us directly or pose a significant threat, there’s no need to get involved with what’s happening outside."

As she spoke, she had already materialized the [Universal Sniper Rifle] in her hands, propping it on the windowsill. She adjusted the barrel slightly, covering the main path to the lab building and any potential breaches.

Chet Lucius also took out his assault rifle and stood guard by a window on the other side.

Flora Sullivan shielded Sharon Lynn behind her, positioning herself just inside the laboratory entrance. The tips of her hair glowed faintly green, ready to deal with any threats that might emerge from the stairwell.

Sharon Lynn huddled in the corner, pulling a blanket over her head. Her small body trembled nonstop as she listened to the terrifying sounds drifting in from outside.

This night was destined to be a restless one.

The sounds of gunfire, roars, and cries from below were intermittent, sometimes fierce, sometimes quiet.

Occasionally, panicked survivors would try to flee toward the lab building, but most were dragged away or torn apart in the darkness by pouncing monsters before they got halfway.

A few smaller monsters, resembling oversized wild dogs or mutated wolves, were drawn by the faint scent of humans and the light from the lab. They tried to approach, but were all driven off or killed by Seraphina Sullivan’s precise long-range sniping and Chet Lucius’s suppressive fire.

The fighting wasn’t constant, but they had to remain on high alert at all times.

Seraphina Sullivan and Chet Lucius took turns resting for short periods, while Flora Sullivan remained vigilant almost the entire time.

Time trickled by in a state of tension and anticipation.

When the eastern sky finally began to whiten and the commotion in the distance gradually died down, a cheer—trembling with excitement and even tinged with a sob—erupted from the lab. It was Dr. Ford.

"Success! I’ve succeeded!

I... I’ve developed it!!"

His voice shattered the pre-dawn silence and instantly dispelled the group’s exhaustion from the long night.

Seraphina Sullivan and Chet Lucius felt a jolt of energy. They exchanged a look, each seeing the anticipation in the other’s eyes.

The laboratory door was yanked open, and Dr. Ford practically staggered out, holding a sealed, ordinary-looking metal canister high in the air.

His face was etched with the fatigue of an all-nighter, but his eyes were astonishingly bright, filled with an indescribable excitement and sense of accomplishment.

"Success! I’ve succeeded!"

His voice was hoarse and trembling with excitement. He carefully presented the metal canister to the group. "This is it! I’m naming it ’Barrier Breaker Type I’!

It’s a special potion... specifically designed for those mega-sized and even Cataclysm-Class Monsters that have a Biological Energy Shield!"

He eagerly began to explain his findings and results:

"Through deep analysis of the Armored Stegosaurus’s bone plates, skin, and some of its energetically active tissues, I successfully isolated and cultivated a special cell line.

This cell is able to secrete and maintain the core matrix that constitutes a biological defensive field.

I reverse-engineered the energy frequency and structural stability of this matrix, and then... using some unconventional methods, I performed a targeted modification on it!"

Dr. Ford grew more and more excited, gesticulating wildly. "I preserved its traits of high energy affinity and penetration, but I changed its allegiance!

It’s been turned from defense to offense!

Simply put, if the Barrier Breaker Type I Potion can be successfully injected into or attached to a monster’s defensive shield, it will create intense energy resonance and interference, temporarily neutralizing or tearing apart its defensive structure!

The duration might not be very long—probably only a few minutes to ten-plus minutes, depending on the dosage and the target’s strength.

But during that window, the monster will lose its most troublesome layer of protection, making it vulnerable to conventional heavy-firepower weapons!"

He looked at the seemingly unremarkable potion in his hand, his eyes gleaming with hope. "This is just the beginning!

Theoretically, as long as the dose is sufficient and the delivery method is effective, we might be able to seriously injure or even kill a Cataclysm-Class Monster!

We no longer have to just run and hide. We can fight back!"

Seeing Dr. Ford on the verge of tears of joy, Seraphina Sullivan couldn’t help but feel happy for him.

’This old man, under such difficult circumstances, relying on sheer passion and solid expertise, actually managed to achieve such a critical breakthrough in just one night!’

This wasn’t just progress for their mission; it brought a true ray of hope to this desperate world.

Humanity was finally no longer just lambs to the slaughter, but now had a chance to punch back!

Chet Lucius also showed great excitement at the right moment. "That’s wonderful! Doctor!

You’re an absolute genius!

With this, we have a weapon to deal with those behemoths!

As long as we can bring your research back to Shelter Three safely and hand it over to the military for mass production and application, we can start organizing effective counterattacks and gradually reclaim our living Space!"
