Chapter 486: Chapter 486: 3-Day Time Limit, Meteor Shower of Rewards
[Ding! All events are now officially active! All survivors on Azure Star, please prepare!]
[The rewards for Events One, Two, and Three will descend randomly across the world over the next three days in the form of "meteors"! Go find them! Go fight for them! Luck and courage will decide your future!]
[Event Duration: Three Days!]
The system’s chime had barely faded when—
BOOM—!!!
A heaven-shattering explosion ripped through the sky!
The sound was so powerful that the entire underground garage trembled, and dust rained down from the ceiling.
Seraphina Sullivan and the others instinctively covered their ears, but the shock wave still made their eardrums ring.
"What’s going on?!" Dexter Luther shouted.
Without hesitation, Seraphina Sullivan immediately ran toward the garage exit.
Dexter Luther, Crystal Lynn, Matthew Dawson, Paul Payne, Flora Sullivan—everyone followed her, charging toward the exit, which was sealed off by a wave of heat.
Standing at the edge of the garage, the scene outside made everyone gasp.
The night sky was now completely transformed.
The once pitch-black canopy of night was torn asunder by countless brilliant lights! Some blazed as white as the scorching sun, others glowed a deep blue like cold fire. Many trailed long, fiery tails, just like real meteors, as they rained down all across the world!
The sky was burning.
No, it was blooming.
Each falling light represented an opportunity—a Player slot, a mysterious Treasure Chest, or perhaps the arrival of a lord-class monster.
"Are those... the Treasure Chests and Player slots?" Dexter Luther mumbled, his head tilted back.
No one answered him.
They were all too stunned by the sight to speak.
It was magnificent.
And utterly insane.
Seraphina Sullivan was the first to snap out of it.
She turned to the others, her gaze sweeping across each of their faces.
"What are your thoughts?"
Matthew Dawson felt the wave of heat pouring in from outside the garage. Even from dozens of meters away, the scorching aura made his skin prickle.
He gritted his teeth. "It’s dangerous, sure, but if we can find a Treasure Chest... the reward would absolutely be worth it."
Paul Payne said nothing, but his eyes said it all.
He was the most excited of them all.
An ordinary person. He had no Space Equipment, no Special Ability, and even had to borrow a tent from Matthew Dawson.
But now, his chance had come.
Player slots, mysterious Treasure Chests... As long as he dared to fight for them, dared to seize them, he could completely change his fate.
"I’m in." His voice was quiet but exceptionally firm.
Dexter Luther grinned. "Duh, of course we’re going! This is a limited-time event. Three days! After three days, it’s over! You’d have to be an idiot not to go!"
Crystal Lynn held Freya Lynn, glanced at her little sister, and then looked at Dexter Luther.
Dexter Luther nodded at her.
Crystal Lynn took a deep breath. "I’ll go too. Freya... she can stay in the RV. We’ll lock the doors."
"I’ll go too," Flora Sullivan said, raising her hand.
Not a single one of them backed down.
Seraphina Sullivan looked at them, a slight smile playing on her lips.
"Then let’s go."
She turned and walked toward the RV, tossing a line over her shoulder:
"Get in. We’re going to find the nearest meteor impact site."
"Yeah—!"
The group cheered in unison and scrambled into the RV after her.
The RV’s engine roared to life, its tires rolling over the scorching ground as it sped off in the direction of the falling meteors.
In the night sky, the meteor shower continued.
A frantic, worldwide scramble had officially begun.
Seraphina Sullivan stood by the RV’s sunroof, gazing up at the still-dazzling night sky.
The lights, trailing fiery tails, were like seeds scattered by a God, falling one by one into this already shattered world.
Each falling light represented a chance to change one’s fate.
"So many meteors..." Dexter Luther also poked his head out, his voice full of anticipation. "I wonder how many we’ll be able to snag."
Matthew Dawson chimed in, "Whether it’s Player slots or Treasure Chests, either one would be a huge benefit to us."
He paused, glancing at Paul Payne and Freya Lynn inside the RV. "Especially them. They aren’t Players yet. If we can get just one slot for them, we’ll have scored big."
Paul Payne said nothing, but his eyes betrayed everything—desire, nervousness, and a trace of anxiety he couldn’t hide.
Freya Lynn, on the other hand, looked on with innocent wonder. She was pressed against the window, watching the meteors, her little mouth letting out a constant stream of "oohs" and "aahs."
"Hey! Look over there!" Matthew Dawson suddenly shouted, pointing at the distant sky.
Everyone looked in the direction he was pointing.
On the distant horizon, countless tiny dots were moving rapidly, all speeding toward the meteor impact zones.
On closer inspection, the dots were clearly aircraft—drones, small flying vehicles, and some other strange-looking contraptions that were obviously not products of conventional technology.
"It’s people from the Central Base," Sean Chandler said as he drove. "They mobilized fast."
Seraphina Sullivan watched them with narrowed eyes for a moment, then nodded. "Looks like they’ve caught on. We need to pick up the pace, or all the good stuff will be gone."
Dexter Luther slapped his thigh. "Then let’s split up! We’ll be more efficient if we search in separate groups!"
Seraphina Sullivan considered it for a moment. ’That makes sense.’
’A large group is a bigger target, and it moves slower.’
’If we split up, we can cover more ground and have a better chance of finding a Treasure Chest.’
"Alright," she said. "But you all know how hot it is outside. Even at night, it’s deadly. Wear these."
With a wave of her hand, she retrieved several sets of neatly folded clothes from her Space.
It was the Insulation Suit she had crafted using her Profession Skills back when she first awakened the Tailor Profession.
The suits were made from fireproof fabric she had stockpiled. After being enhanced by her Skills, they could effectively block out high temperatures of several dozen degrees, making them decent protective gear.
"Whoa!" Dexter Luther exclaimed as he took a suit, turning it over and over. "Sullivan, you had something this good? How come I’ve never seen you wear one?"
"It’s not usually necessary," Seraphina Sullivan said. "But with this extreme-heat disaster, they’ll come in handy.
Put them on, and don’t take them off."
Dexter Luther and the others didn’t stand on ceremony, quickly pulling on the Insulation Suits.
Crystal Lynn sighed as she dressed. "Sullivan, you’re truly incredible.
Have you been preparing all this since the cataclysm first struck Azure Star?"
Seraphina Sullivan didn’t answer directly, only offering a small smile.
But Dexter Luther knew.
He remembered a long time ago, back when the Player system had just appeared. Seraphina had asked him to help install security doors, hoard supplies, and make all sorts of preparations.
Back then, he’d just thought she was being cautious.
’Thinking about it now, she had seen the truth all along.’
"Alright," Seraphina Sullivan said, clapping her hands. "Get changed. Time to move out."
"Dexter Luther and Crystal Lynn, you’re a team."
"Flora and I will be a team."
"Sean Chandler, you’ll be with Paul Payne, Freya Lynn, and Matthew Dawson.
Your group is bigger, plus you have Freya, a child, so be ready to provide backup at a moment’s notice."
