Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 511: The Taste of Lies
Chapter 511: Chapter 511: The Taste of Lies
Seraphina Sullivan was not affected by Kyle Kane’s gaze.
She calmly asked, "How did that Player who became a God die?"
Kyle Kane was silent for a long time.
So long that Crystal Lynn thought he wasn’t going to answer.
Only then did he speak, his voice as hoarse as sandpaper grating.
"He was... killed by ordinary people."
The air in the cave seemed to freeze.
Flora Sullivan’s long hair stirred without a wind, and her eyes grew wary.
Crystal Lynn subconsciously took half a step back, her hand resting on the hilt of her blade.
Only Seraphina Sullivan remained sitting there, completely immobile.
She looked at Kyle Kane, at his eyes filled with pain and guilt, and asked softly,
"Why?"
Crystal Lynn and Flora Sullivan also looked at Kyle Kane at the same time, their eyes filled with the same question.
If someone in this world had once become a God, and if that Divine being had protected the world with their Power—why would they commit deicide?
What reason could possibly drive a group of protected people to kill their own Guardian God with their own hands?
Kyle Kane opened his mouth, just about to speak—
when his expression suddenly changed.
The change was so abrupt. The pained look of recollection from moments ago was instantly replaced by terror.
He shot to his feet.
[Earthquake Perception] activated.
He tilted his head, listening as if he could hear a sound that ordinary people couldn’t perceive.
The next second, he yelled frantically,
"Quick! Seal the cave entrance! The Demonic Tide is coming!"
The entire cave instantly erupted into chaos.
The people who had been resting quietly just moments before sprang into action as if a switch had been flipped. The men rushed toward the entrance, women grabbed their children and moved deeper into the cave, and the elderly shakily began to pack up supplies.
Their movements were so practiced it was heartbreaking, as if they had been through this kind of emergency countless times.
Several burly men hoisted up a huge, pre-prepared stone slab and charged toward the entrance.
Kyle Kane no longer paid any attention to Seraphina Sullivan and her group, striding quickly to the entrance to direct the sealing effort.
The three of them stood where they were, watching the chaotic yet orderly scene unfold.
Crystal Lynn sidled up to Seraphina Sullivan and asked in a low voice, "Seraphina, do you think what that man said is credible?"
Her mind was a mess.
Everything Kyle Kane had said—a Player becoming a God, Divine protection, deicide—each statement was like a bombshell, creating countless questions in her mind.
The situation in this instance was even stranger than she had imagined.
Seraphina Sullivan’s gaze followed Kyle Kane’s back, her eyes calm and deep.
"We can’t trust everything he said," she said softly, her tone firm.
Flora Sullivan leaned in. "Master, do you think he’s lying?"
"It might not be a complete lie, but he’s definitely hiding something."
Seraphina Sullivan narrowed her eyes slightly. "And I have a way to make him tell the truth."
She planned to find an opportunity to use [Sweet Fragrance] to influence her target’s emotions and judgment, making them more likely to spill the truth.
Once what Kyle Kane called the Demonic Tide had passed, she would find a chance to use it on him and learn the truth.
Flora Sullivan nodded, then a thought suddenly occurred to her. "So... this world was originally safe?
But because the one who became a God was killed, the system selected it again, turning it into the current Demonic Apocalypse?"
"It’s very likely," Seraphina Sullivan said.
"The residual Energy from the fallen Divine being polluted the world, causing the Demonization of its flora and fauna.
Then the system detected that this world had fallen into an apocalypse again, so it dropped in more Players—us."
After listening, Crystal Lynn was silent for a moment before suddenly speaking up.
"Becoming a God..."
Her voice was very soft, tinged with a complex emotion.
"How can someone become a God?"
Seraphina Sullivan looked at her.
Crystal Lynn’s gaze was distant, as if she were looking far away, or perhaps at some nonexistent hope. "If someone could become a God in our world, would we still have to go through all this?
We wouldn’t have to struggle to survive in all these natural disaster instances, wouldn’t have to constantly worry about dying, wouldn’t have to worry about Freya... wouldn’t have to worry about her waiting for me all alone in the Shelter..."
Her voice grew quieter and quieter until it was nearly inaudible.
Seraphina Sullivan didn’t answer.
Because that was a question she didn’t have the answer to either.
Just then, Lamb, who had been cowering and trembling in a corner, suddenly lifted its head, twitched its nose, and let out an urgent bleat:
"BAA—BAA BAA BAA!!!"
Flora Sullivan stared, momentarily stunned, at the black sheep.
"It says..." Flora Sullivan’s expression turned strange. "It smells lies."
Seraphina Sullivan’s gaze sharpened. "Lies?"
Lamb nodded frantically, its wool quivering. "BAA! BAA BAA BAA!" (That’s right! When I entered this instance, I was near these Native People! They were plotting something!)
After Flora Sullivan finished translating, Seraphina Sullivan’s eyes instantly grew sharp.
"What did you hear?"
Lamb lowered its head and bleated sheepishly, "Baa... Baa baa baa..." (Uh... I didn’t hear clearly... Then I was discovered... and you know the rest...)
It looked up at Seraphina Sullivan with a wronged expression. "Baa baa baa baa baa." (My Ability is stronger in dreams. In reality, it’s... it’s pretty useless.)
Seraphina Sullivan: "..."
Crystal Lynn: "..."
Flora Sullivan silently turned her head away, unable to watch.
’So what the sheep meant was—it discovered they were plotting, but because its ability wasn’t strong enough, it didn’t hear anything clearly before getting chased for half the day?’
Sensing the three speechless gazes on it, Lamb buried its head in its wool in shame.
—
Meanwhile, at the cave entrance.
Kyle Kane was directing his team to seal the entrance, but it was just for show.
His gaze swept periodically toward the three women, his expression terrifyingly dark.
The man with glasses sidled up to him and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Boss, do you think they’ll believe what we just told them?"
A cold smirk played on Kyle Kane’s lips. "It doesn’t matter if they believe it or not."
"Then..."
"What kind of trouble can three women cause?"
Kyle Kane lowered his voice, his tone filled with contempt and disdain. "I was just worrying about where to find sacrifices. And now, they’ve delivered themselves right to our doorstep."
The man with glasses’s expression changed slightly. "Boss, you’re thinking of..."
"With them, we won’t have to use our own people as sacrifices anymore."
Kyle Kane’s gaze was as deep as a well. "Think about it. How many people have we sacrificed these past few months to gather enough offerings? The cries of the children, the tears of the women—haven’t you had enough of it?"
The man with glasses lowered his head, remaining silent.
"Now we have three outsiders." Kyle Kane’s voice dropped even lower, almost to a whisper. "They’re Players, they have Special Abilities, and their Demonization level is low—perfect sacrifices.
As long as we offer them to that entity, we can have at least three more months of peace. Maybe some of our people might even become Awakeners."
The man with glasses hesitated. "But... they don’t look easy to deal with..."
"Not easy to deal with?"
Kyle Kane sneered. "No matter how tough they are, there are only three of them.
Once the Demonic Tide passes and they let their guard down, we’ll have the numbers. You think we won’t be able to take them?"
