Chapter 514: Chapter 514: The Demon God’s Revenge Quest

Sean Chandler listened in silence.

"But..."

The old woman’s tone shifted, and a glimmer of light suddenly sparked in her aged eyes. "In the midst of crisis, there is always hope."

A Player appeared.

That person was different from the other Players.

He was stronger, more resilient, and more intelligent.

He entered the instances time and time again, and time and time again, he came out alive.

While other Players struggled to survive in a state of terror, he constantly pushed his limits on the brink of life and death.

The disasters grew more and more terrifying, but he only grew stronger.

Finally, just when everyone thought the world was on the verge of complete annihilation—

He succeeded.

"He cleared many, many disaster instances and successfully transformed from a Player... into a Divine being."

A trace of reverence filled the old woman’s voice. "He achieved the station of the Demon God."

Demon God.

Sean Chandler’s pupils constricted slightly.

’A Demon God? That Title sounds a lot like the God of Magical Beasts who favors me.’

"And then?"

"And then..." the old woman said slowly, "our instance world fell under the protection of the Demon God. The Disaster System would no longer release different disasters. The calamities... came to an end."

People were overjoyed.

Those who had struggled for so, so long in fear and despair could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

They could rebuild their homes, cultivate their land, and sleep soundly without worrying that the world would be destroyed by the time they awoke.

This peaceful life continued for a while.

But it did not last for long.

"Because some people discovered..."

The old woman’s voice dropped. "...that no new Players were being created."

Sean Chandler’s brow furrowed slightly.

The old woman explained, "The Demon God used his own Divine Power to sever the System’s perception of our world.

The System could no longer select new Players. Those who would have originally been chosen for the instances were now safe."

"The Demon God thought this was how he could protect everyone."

She paused, then gave a bitter smile.

"But he was wrong."

"How was he wrong?" Sean Chandler asked.

The old woman looked at him and said, enunciating every word:

"Human greed is an abyss."

Some people wanted to obtain Power.

Some were discontent with the status quo.

Some looked at the Abilities the Players once possessed with envy, jealousy, and desire.

"Why should only Players be able to have a Special Ability?

Why should we ordinary people have to be ordinary for the rest of our lives?

Why should that Demon God get to stand high above us, while we can only live on our knees?"

These words were jarring to Sean Chandler’s ears.

The old woman continued, "They began to conspire, to plot, to look for an opportunity. And then—"

"They found one."

A conspiracy to commit deicide was quietly set in motion.

They used the Demon God’s mortal wife and child as bait.

He was the Demon God who had once sheltered the entire world, the expert who had cheated death time and again in the disaster instances, the being who had transformed from a Player into a Divine existence—

And because of his own family, he fell into a trap.

The act of deicide was carried out.

The Demon God fell.

By the time the old woman reached this point, her voice was so hoarse it was almost inaudible.

Her hands gripped the wooden staff so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

Sean Chandler was silent for a long time.

Then he asked, "After the Demon God fell, did the System return?"

The old woman shook her head.

"No."

"Then..."

"Although the Demon God fell, his Divine Power still lingers in this world."

The old woman’s voice was low and heavy. "His remains... transformed into a terrifying fog of Demonization that corrupted the entire world."

"That is the Demonic Apocalypse you see before you."

Sean Chandler leaned back in his chair, his mind replaying the images of the terrifying creatures he had seen along the way.

The demonized plants, the frenzied animals, the spider shrouded in black mist, and that absurdly massive giant python.

So all of this was caused by the residual Energy of that Demon God after his death.

He had protected this world, only to be killed by its people.

And after death, his remains continued to defile this world.

And that group of people who killed him...

"What about those people?" Sean Chandler asked. "The ones who planned the deicide, what happened to them?"

The old woman gave a bitter smile. "What else could have happened? When the fog of Demonization descended, they were the first to go mad.

Because they had guilty consciences, because they were greedy, because they had personally killed their own Guardian God.

Those negative emotions made them the most susceptible to the corruption of Demonization."

"Some went insane on the spot, biting anyone they saw. Some rotted away, dying amidst agonizing screams. And others... became beings even more terrifying than the Demonic Creatures."

Sean Chandler was silent.

After a long moment, he let out an inscrutable sigh.

"As expected..."

The old woman looked at him.

Sean Chandler finished his sentence, his face expressionless:

"There’s no shortage of madmen anywhere."

To destroy the very shield they depended on for survival for the sake of so-called "Power" and so-called "refusal to be ordinary."

Then, to reap what they sowed and die in despair.

He had seen too many people like that in various instances.

It was just that this time, the price was an entire world.

The old woman looked at Sean Chandler’s expressionless face and suddenly smiled.

"You are very calm, young man," she said. "Seeing you like this has made me even more certain of one thing."

"What’s that?"

"The System has re-entered our world. Perhaps this time, the Player who has come can put an end to this disaster."

Just as Sean Chandler finished listening to the old woman’s story,

a System notification echoed in the minds of all Players.

The moment the alert sounded in everyone’s mind, Seraphina Sullivan’s fingers tensed.

[Ding! Congratulations to a certain Player for discovering the world’s truth, triggering the hidden quest: The Demon God’s Revenge!]

[Quest Details: This world was once under the protection of the Demon God. However, a group of despicable traitors exploited the Demon God’s trust and weakness, setting a trap to commit deicide. Not only did they personally kill their own Guardian God, but after the Demon God’s fall, they devoured his divine flesh and drank his Divine Blood, thereby obtaining Power that did not belong to them.]

[These traitors call themselves "Awakeners," but in truth, they are nothing more than demonic monsters who subsist by consuming Divine Flesh and Blood!]

[Quest Objective: Kill all the traitors—the Demonized Superpower Users!]

[Quest Rewards: Distributed based on the number of kills and contribution. The one who kills the ringleader of the traitors will gain the recognition of the Demon God’s remaining Divine Status!]

---

Seraphina Sullivan’s pupils constricted slightly.

The sudden quest announcement from the System caught her off guard.

’Kill the Awakeners?’

She slowly raised her head, her gaze shifting from the system panel to Kyle Kane and the others in front of her.

Kyle Kane was standing near the cave entrance with his back to them, seeming to whisper something to the man with glasses.

His figure appeared particularly sinister in the dim light of the oil lamp. The warmth and friendliness he had once feigned now seemed utterly different in Seraphina’s eyes.

Awakeners.

Traitors.

Godslayers.

The previous conversation flashed rapidly through Seraphina’s mind.

’Since the System issued a quest like this, it’s certain that whatever Kyle Kane and his people said can’t be trusted.’

’The prerequisite for becoming an Awakener is to consume the Demon God’s Divine Flesh and Blood.’

Seraphina tsked.

"It seems not all the Native People are worth saving."
