Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 541: Taking Action, Working Together
Chapter 541: Chapter 541: Taking Action, Working Together
Wesley Moore looked at Seraphina Sullivan, a flicker of light passing through his murky eyes.
He nodded without another word and turned to walk toward the other survivors.
His pace wasn’t fast, but it was steady, as if he had finally found a reason to keep going.
Seraphina Sullivan then turned to Justin Brooks.
The new scar on the soldier’s face, the man who had protected survivors all the way from the Vorlag Safe Zone, was particularly glaring under the sunlight.
"Mr. Brooks."
Seraphina Sullivan said, "Your Ability, [Wall], is well-suited for building shelters.
I’m leaving the simple shelters to you. The Central Base’s Dungeon and Sky Fortress have already evacuated, and the extreme temperature disaster is still ongoing. The survivors must have a place to stay."
Justin Brooks didn’t waste any words, just nodded. "Leave it to me."
He turned and walked toward the ruins, surveying the buildings that were still barely standing as he went. ’Which ones can be repaired? Which need to be demolished? And where’s a good spot for temporary shelters?’ he was already calculating in his head.
Finally, Seraphina Sullivan looked at Jason Ross.
The man was still moving corpses, his actions mechanical and numb.
The few men under him were much the same, their eyes vacant, as if only their bodies were left to do the work.
Seraphina Sullivan walked over and stood beside him, looking at the corpses strewn haphazardly on the ground.
In the high heat, the bodies were decomposing at an alarming rate. The sickly-sweet stench of rot was impossible to block, even with a mask.
If they weren’t dealt with quickly, these bodies would become a new disaster.
Plagues, infectious diseases... in a place with so few doctors and so little medicine, any one of them could kill more people than the chaos had.
"These bodies must be disposed of as soon as possible," Seraphina Sullivan said. "We can’t just leave them piled up here."
Jason Ross looked up at her.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say, "We’re already handling it," but swallowed the words before they could escape.
Because he saw that Seraphina Sullivan wasn’t just standing there giving orders. She was bending down to lift a corpse herself.
"Let’s all work together." Seraphina Sullivan’s voice wasn’t loud, but it reached everyone’s ears clearly.
Dexter Luther was the first to follow, rolling up his sleeves and getting to work.
Matthew Dawson and Paul Payne exchanged a look and quietly joined in.
Flora Sullivan’s long hair drifted out, wrapping around several of the lighter corpses and carrying them toward a distant incineration pit.
Lamb also tried to find a way to help Seraphina Sullivan.
That’s right. After returning to the real world, Lamb had found Seraphina Sullivan.
Jason Ross stood frozen, watching this group of people who had arrived less than half an hour ago tackle the dirtiest, most exhausting work without any disgust.
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, he just lowered his head and continued moving the bodies.
Wesley Moore wasn’t making fast progress, but things were going smoothly.
The Central Base had evacuated, taking the Dungeon and the Sky Fortress with it.
Those who hadn’t managed to evacuate during the chaos were all wondering how they would survive.
It was then that Wesley Moore calmly told them: someone was going to build a new base here, one with food, water, and shelter.
Anyone willing to stay was welcome to.
Someone looked up, their eyes filled with suspicion. "You’re lying, right? The Central Base is gone. Who could possibly build a base here?"
Wesley Moore didn’t offer a lengthy explanation. He just pointed at Seraphina Sullivan, who was moving corpses in the distance. "See that girl? She has the Ability to keep you alive. Are you willing to join?"
The person followed his finger and saw a young woman bent over, lifting a corpse larger than herself, her expression as calm as if she were performing the most ordinary task.
Several others were working alongside her, none of them complaining about the filth or the exhaustion.
"She..."
The person opened their mouth, wanting to say something but not knowing what.
Wesley Moore clapped him on the shoulder. "Think it over. Stay if you want, but no one’s forcing you if you don’t."
He stood up and walked toward the next survivor.
Justin Brooks had also gotten to work.
His [Wall] Ability wasn’t particularly powerful, but it was more than enough for building temporary shelters.
He found a row of relatively intact buildings and used his Ability to erect simple walls in the gaps, blocking the heatwaves and sandstorms from outside.
A few rooms were quickly cleared out. They were crude, but at least they offered protection from the elements.
He handed the first batch of prepared rooms over to Jason Ross’s men, telling them to move the injured, the elderly, and the weak inside first.
When those people took the shelter vouchers, their hands were trembling.
It wasn’t out of fear, but disbelief. In this place where everyone had been abandoned, someone was still willing to care for them.
After moving the last corpse, Seraphina Sullivan straightened up and watched the black smoke rising from the incineration pit in the distance.
The acrid smell of burning flesh drifted on the wind, mixing with the scorching air of the extreme temperature disaster, making it difficult to breathe.
She raised a hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead, smearing the grime from her palm across her face and leaving a dark gray streak.
But she paid it no mind, her gaze sweeping over the others who were just as filthy.
Dexter Luther was leaning against the RV, gasping for breath. Matthew Dawson was squatting on the ground, rubbing his aching back. Paul Payne was so exhausted he was sitting on the ground, unable to get up.
Flora Sullivan’s long hair was caked with dust, having lost its usual luster.
Even Lamb had collapsed on the ground, its four hooves in the air and its belly rising and falling, looking like a dead sheep.
No one complained.
Seraphina Sullivan withdrew her gaze and looked up at the sky.
The venomous sunlight poured down, completely unobstructed. The heat rising from the ground distorted the distant scenery.
The ruins of the Central Base shimmered in the heatwaves, like a mirage in the desert.
The extreme temperature disaster was still ongoing, and it was only getting worse.
While they were moving the bodies just now, the sun had burned several people’s skin red. Dexter Luther’s lips were cracked and bleeding, and blisters had formed on Matthew Dawson’s neck.
’I have to solve this problem.’
Seraphina Sullivan closed her eyes and connected with her Lord’s Sanctuary.
A giant Redwood Tree had long been rooted in the Sanctuary, its root system extensive and its canopy so vast it blotted out the sun.
With a single thought, the massive tree vanished from the Sanctuary and reappeared in the center of the Central Base’s ruins.
The ground trembled slightly.
The Redwood Tree’s roots burrowed into the soil beneath the ruins. Its thick trunk shot up from the ground, its enormous canopy spreading out like a green umbrella, instantly blocking the sunlight for nearly a hundred meters in every direction.
In the shade of the tree, the temperature visibly dropped by several degrees.
The survivors huddled in the corners all looked up, staring dumbfounded at the tree that had suddenly appeared. Some even rubbed their eyes, thinking they were having an Illusion.
"Weather Cloud." Seraphina Sullivan said to Flora Sullivan.
Flora Sullivan controlled a layer of gray clouds, making them gather above the Redwood Tree’s canopy and spread out rapidly, shrouding the entire area in shadow.
Fine snowflakes began to drift down from the clouds. They fluttered about, melting quickly before they even hit the ground, carrying away the heat from the air.
The temperature dropped a few more degrees. Although it was still hot, at least it no longer felt like they were being roasted over a fire.
