Infinite Nightmares
Chapter 371: The Past
Soon, in the heat of battle, the clowns and Little Black Cats began to take casualties. Their mangled corpses floated limply on the murky water.
Just as the situation was spiraling out of control, someone rushed out from the side. It was Garbage Bag.
Wrapped head to toe in bags, he had come back. He charged onto the battlefield at incredible speed. “I’m here to help!”
Seeing this, Zhang Wenda’s eyes widened in astonishment. ‘He dares to join a situation like this? Could it be… has this guy been playing dumb this whole time?’
They had only met a few times, but Zhang Wenda had always felt there was something unusual about him. Now it seemed he was right.
Hope instantly surged in Zhang Wenda’s heart. This hopeless situation had taken a new turn.
Shamate and his partner were also momentarily unsure of the newcomer’s identity. They took a few steps back, watching him warily.
As Garbage Bag rushed up to him, a flicker of hope rose in Zhang Wenda. He looked at him and began to ask, “Could you be—”
Before Zhang Wenda could finish, Garbage Bag pulled out a mushroom key and shoved it into Zhang Wenda’s mouth. “Eat this. It’ll definitely work this time.”
It was hard to say what kind of person Garbage Bag was. His speed was usually normal, but he was unnaturally fast when it came to shoving mushrooms into people’s mouths.
Zhang Wenda had just spat out the mushroom when he realized it was too late. He didn’t know what the mushroom did, but now he felt dizzy, and red rashes started breaking out all over his body.
Zhang Wenda staggered, nearly falling, but Blue managed to catch him. He stared at Garbage Bag in disbelief. “What are you doing!”
“I’m helping you! Can you see the other two worlds yet?!” His voice was filled with sincerity.
“Gag~!” Zhang Wenda’s stomach churned like a stormy sea, and he vomited everything.
Forget seeing two other worlds; he could barely see this one anymore. He felt his body growing extremely weak. Before, his chances of winning were low. Now, thanks to this guy’s meddling, his chances were zero.
“You!” An enraged Zhang Wenda yanked the garbage bag off the other man’s head, revealing the face underneath.
It was the face of a classic idiot. One eye stood guard while the other was on patrol, and the left corner of his mouth twitched. Even more bizarrely, a steel rebar pierced straight through his head from left to right. Zhang Wenda finally understood. This guy was a raving lunatic!
‘He wasn’t pretending to be dumb. He was a genuine fucking idiot!’
Zhang Wenda was about to reach out and try to transfer his affliction to the man, but his two enemies wouldn’t let him. Just as he knew their abilities, they knew his.
Translucent cubes shot up from the water, quickly separating the two of them.
Utterly drained, Zhang Wenda staggered and collapsed into the water. He had no idea what kind of mushroom that idiot had fed him. Not only was his body completely devoid of strength, but his mind had also become a chaotic mess.
As he saw Shamate in the distance, raising a red and blue spear and walking toward him step by step, only one thought remained in Zhang Wenda’s mind. ‘Is this how it ends?’
Red charged out but was blocked by the purple-robed man. More importantly, another person suddenly appeared and greeted Shamate. It seemed they had another accomplice.
Blue also charged out with the others, but with their master in a daze, they were no match for their opponents.
Soon, Zhang Wenda was surrounded. At his side were only the useless Yellow and the idiot whose “help” was a disaster.
“Help me! Use your power!” Zhang Wenda said, leaning sideways to look at Yellow. “If you don’t do something, we’re all going to die here.”
Yellow was terrified. He looked around at the hopeless scene in a panic. “I… I don’t know. I don’t know what I can do.”
“You alright?” Garbage Bag ran over enthusiastically to help the fallen Zhang Wenda to his feet.
“You… You…” Zhang Wenda had the urge to kill him. But the man’s face was so sincere, as if he truly believed he was helping.
“You can’t spit it out! It’s useless if you spit it out! Come with me! We can escape if we leave this world!”
“It’s over!” With a flash, Shamate, the man in purple, and the other newcomer appeared beside Zhang Wenda all at once. They raised their weapons, aiming simultaneously for Zhang Wenda’s head and heart.
In that instant, Yellow was so terrified he squeezed his eyes shut and grabbed Zhang Wenda’s hand with all his might. Zhang Wenda, in turn, instinctively wrapped his arms around Yellow, holding him tight.
The next second, a yellow light flashed, illuminating the surroundings and engulfing Zhang Wenda completely.
One second passed. Then two. Then three. The pain he’d been expecting never came.
Not only was there no pain, but the adverse effects from the mushroom were also rapidly fading.
When Zhang Wenda slowly opened his eyes, he found the dim, foul-smelling swamp had vanished completely. A blue sky stretched above, with the sun hanging high. Its light felt warm on his skin.
When he lowered his head to look around, he saw monkeys of all sizes on the surrounding rockeries, screeching and hollering at him.
Suddenly, a mangy monkey with a missing tail ran up to Zhang Wenda and reached for the flashlight in his hand.
“Get lost! Scram!” Zhang Wenda swatted at it a few times. The monkey yelped in pain, shed a patch of fur, and scampered off.
The other monkeys on the Monkey Mountain seemed to be frightened as well, scattering in all directions.
At that moment, Zhang Wenda also noticed something was wrong. His hands had become small again, fair and soft. ‘Why did I say “again”?’
Looking at the flashlight in his hand again, Zhang Wenda saw it was still the one his grandfather had left him. Legend had it that when his grandfather got married, it was the only electrical appliance in their home.
“Where… where is this? Where’s the swamp? Where’s Hu Maomao? Are those monkeys all people from Big Circle?” Utterly bewildered, Zhang Wenda stood up, looked around, and then climbed a nearby rope ladder.
When he climbed out of the deep pit inside the rockery, he was greeted by an unbelievable sight.
In the enclosures to his left, giant black rats several meters tall were eating small elephants. A giraffe with a gaping, bloody maw splitting its chest was chewing on the shrubbery.
To his right, in another garden area, white lions chased fleeing monkeys, while hairless apes scratched each other’s backs.
A black goat stood on its hind legs, chewing on red paper, while a molting Macaw Parrot bigger than a building spread its wings and screeched raucously over the whole scene.
“This… this place is… a zoo???”
