Infinite Nightmares
Chapter 375: Red
The next instant, the bleeding hippo was devoured by the other beasts, and the stampeding herd quickly fell back into formation.
But this was only the beginning. As Zhang Wenda walked, he kept drawing, conjuring all sorts of bizarre barricades and bricks into existence in mid-air.
Anything he drew was fixed in mid-air as if welded in place, continuously crashing into the animals and forcing them to slow down.
As he put more distance between himself and the herd, Zhang Wenda had more time to draw. His creations grew more numerous and elaborate.
Eventually, he even used the bricks he’d drawn as footholds to draw a solid blue wall, finally halting the frenzied animals and the encroaching water.
When the herd slammed into the wall, they finally calmed down. They didn’t try to go around it or roar; they simply stood there quietly.
Peering through the glass-like blue wall at the pairs of hostile eyes on the other side, Zhang Wenda, whose nerves had been stretched to the breaking point, finally breathed a sigh of relief.
‘Thank goodness. I knew it. I knew the yellow ability couldn’t be this useless. It had to have left me with some kind of an out.’
If it had really just turned him into a child and thrown him into such a dangerous place, Zhang Wenda would have started to suspect it was an enemy’s yellow ability.
There was still a lot he didn’t understand, but at least he had survived and solved the immediate problem.
After scanning the herd and failing to spot the monkey from before, he took two steps back and shouted at the parrot overhead, “Hey! I’m asking you, where’s the exit? Weren’t you supposed to be my guide? You better believe I’ll draw a ladder, climb up there, and pluck you bald!!”
The Macaw Parrot descended once more, landing beside an aquarium tank. It began pecking at a dead zebra.
This time, however, it wasn’t pecking at the zebra’s eyes, but at its black and white stripes. “GAA! PATH! DOOR! GAA!”
“The zebra is the path?” Zhang Wenda skeptically used the ladder he’d drawn to climb up next to the zebra’s tank, peering at the belly-up animal inside.
He tentatively flipped the zebra over so its black and white stripes faced him. The moment he reached out to touch them, something incredible happened.
His hand passed right through the zebra’s hide. The black and white stripes immediately began to shift, forming a rippling, black-and-white doorway.
The Macaw Parrot squawked at Zhang Wenda, then spread its wings and dove right in.
‘So this is the zoo’s exit?’ Zhang Wenda felt a wave of relief. He balanced on the edge of the glass tank, preparing to jump in after it.
But suddenly, a dark figure flashed past. A hairy hand snatched at the blue crayon in Zhang Wenda’s grasp with incredible speed—it was the monkey that had led the stampede!
The monkey, dropping from above, seemed crazed. One of its hands clawed wildly at Zhang Wenda’s face while the other scrambled to snatch the crayon.
The creature obviously knew about the crayon’s power; it was here for the crayon itself.
‘If this thing gets my crayon… setting aside whether my own ‘blue’ will be stolen along with it, the creature could use its power to kill me easily!’
There was no way Zhang Wenda would let that happen. Standing by the glass tank, he began to struggle fiercely with the monkey.
Fortunately, just as Zhang Wenda was stripped of his powers, the monkey apparently was as well. They could only rely on sheer physical strength in their struggle for the crayon.
SPLASH! Man and monkey tumbled into the tank. Outside, the price tag on the glass changed from “2 yuan each” to “1 yuan each.”
In the heat of the struggle, the monkey bit down hard on the web of the thumb of the hand Zhang Wenda used to hold the crayon, leaving two bloody, mangled puncture wounds.
Wincing in pain, Zhang Wenda lost his grip, and the monkey’s hairy hand finally closed tightly around the blue crayon.
The moment the blue crayon left his hand, a boundless rage consumed Zhang Wenda. He opened his mouth, a torrent of bubbles erupting as he roared at the monkey, “Get the hell off me!”
Almost by instinct, he pulled the red crayon from his pocket and stabbed it with all his might into the monkey’s gleeful face.
As he dragged it across the monkey’s face with all his strength, leaving a red line, the monkey instantly froze, completely immobile.
Zhang Wenda couldn’t be bothered to figure out what had just happened to the creature; he simply snatched his blue crayon back from its grasp.
He then drew another vertical line with the red crayon, this time down the creature’s body. Kicking it deeper underwater, he clutched his crayon tightly and swam toward the zebra.
The moment Zhang Wenda stuck his head through the black-and-white door, his surroundings dissolved like smoke. He found himself suspended in nothingness for a second before falling with a SPLASH into filthy swamp water.
The stench of the swamp water felt strangely welcoming. His body ached all over, but no matter what, he was finally back.
Panting, Zhang Wenda had just dragged himself out of the water when he froze. He was completely surrounded. In layer upon layer, on the ground, on distant rooftops, and across various suspension bridges, stood members of the Big Circle.
There were thousands of them, at least, all pointing an arsenal of weapons at him—including modern armaments like rocket launchers.
Among them were the three ’03s’ from the Big Circle he’d encountered before. They stood nearby, forming a triangle around him.
Time seemed to freeze. An absolute silence fell, as if the only sound left between heaven and earth was the ragged sound of Zhang Wenda’s own breath.
Compared to before, it felt like something had changed, yet at the same time, like nothing had changed at all.
Zhang Wenda stared at the scene and swallowed hard. Just as his eyes hardened with grim determination and he took a step forward with his right foot, a red line appeared on every single person’s face. It was an exact replica of the red crayon line he had drawn on the monkey.
He followed with his left foot, and another red line appeared on all of them, this one slashing from the left shoulder down to the right kidney, cutting across their entire torsos. It was in the exact same place as the second line he had drawn on the monkey.
‘What’s going on? What in the world is—’ Before Zhang Wenda could finish his thought, with a massive spray of blood, every person was sliced into four pieces along those two lines and collapsed limply into the water.
As the blood spread, the entire swamp was gradually dyed red. But it wasn’t just the water; fresh blood also began to drip slowly from the rooftops and suspension bridges above.
The dripping blood grew into a torrent, then a waterfall. This same scene was playing out all across Forest City. Not a single member of the Big Circle Organization was left standing; every one of them had met the exact same fate.
Finally, as Zhang Wenda watched, the entire city transformed into a blood-soaked city, shrouded in a crimson mist!
