Infinite Rebate: I Get Richer Every Time I Spend
Chapter 191: Who Was She Talking To?
The office fell into an awkward silence.
Maya stood quietly, her brows knitting together as she searched for another solution. There was no way she was leaving Lucas behind. If she was going to Lanai Island, then somehow, Lucas had to come too.
After several moments of deep thought, she slowly took out her phone.
The simple action immediately drew everyone’s attention.
Especially Bryce’s.
A faint, confident smile spread across his face.
In his mind, everything had unfolded exactly as he had planned. The invitations were limited, every Student Union member wanted to go, and there wasn’t a single spare spot available. Maya couldn’t possibly bring an outsider now. He had backed her into a corner, and there was no way out.
Meanwhile, miles away, Lucas was lying comfortably on his bed with both hands behind his head, completely unaware of what was happening inside the Student Union office.
His thoughts had already drifted to Lanai Island. He imagined endless blue oceans stretching toward the horizon, luxury beachfront villas, private white-sand beaches, and beautiful women surrounding him wherever he went. Just thinking about finally visiting his own island was enough to make him grin.
He was already picturing everyone’s shocked expressions when they discovered who the real owner of Lanai Island was.
Just then...
Buzz.
Buzz.
His phone vibrated, instantly pulling him out of his fantasy.
Lucas glanced at the screen.
Maya Calling...
Without hesitation, he answered.
"Hello?"
A soft, slightly anxious voice came through the speaker.
"Lucas... I... I don’t know what to do."
"There aren’t enough invitation spots."
"They’re saying only Student Union members can go."
She paused briefly before speaking again, her voice becoming even quieter.
"I don’t think they’ll let you come..."
"Maybe... we should just cancel it."
Hearing the worry in her voice, Lucas couldn’t help smiling.
There wasn’t the slightest trace of concern on his face.
"You don’t have to cancel anything."
"You’ll go."
"And..."
"So will I."
Maya blinked in confusion.
"...What?"
"...How?"
Lucas simply chuckled.
"You don’t need to worry about that."
"Just trust me."
"I’ll be there."
His calm confidence carried an almost magical reassurance.
Although Maya had absolutely no idea how Lucas planned to pull it off, she found herself believing him without question. The anxiety that had been weighing on her heart moments earlier quietly melted away.
"...Okay."
"I’ll trust you."
A gentle smile unconsciously appeared on her face.
At the same time, the entire Student Union office had become eerily silent.
Nobody dared interrupt her phone call.
Instead, every pair of eyes remained fixed on Maya.
And every single person noticed the exact same thing.
She...
Was smiling.
Not only that...
Her voice had become unbelievably gentle.
Almost sweet.
It was a tone nobody in the room had ever heard before.
To everyone present, Maya had always been the cold, elegant, and highly capable Student Union President. Professional. Rational. Untouchable.
Yet now...
She sounded like a completely different girl.
Several male officers exchanged stunned glances, unable to hide the disbelief in their eyes.
Who exactly is she talking to?
Since when could Maya speak so softly?
Some of them even felt a surge of jealousy.
If the person on the other end of that call was really a man...
Then he had already accomplished something none of them had ever managed to do.
Bryce’s expression darkened more and more.
Beneath the table, his fists slowly tightened.
Who is it?
Which bastard is she talking to?
More importantly...
Why was she smiling like that?
Every sentence...
Every smile...
Every tiny change in her expression...
Felt like a knife slowly twisting inside his chest.
The longer he watched, the more convinced he became.
The person on the other end had to be a man.
For the first time in years...
Bryce genuinely felt threatened.
Confusion, frustration, and an intense sense of possessiveness slowly filled his eyes.
Meanwhile, Maya completely ignored the countless stares surrounding her.
At that moment, the only person she cared about was Lucas.
The man she had unknowingly fallen in love with.
As for everyone else’s opinions...
She couldn’t have cared less.
After ending the call, Maya calmly slipped her phone back into her pocket before turning toward Bryce.
"So..."
"When are we leaving?"
Bryce was still lost in his own thoughts.
His mind was occupied by one question.
Who was that guy?
Only when Maya repeated herself did he finally snap back to reality.
"...Huh?"
He quickly composed himself.
"We leave tomorrow morning."
Maya raised an eyebrow slightly.
"So soon?"
She had originally assumed the trip would happen sometime later during the holiday.
She hadn’t expected it to begin on the very first day.
Still...
It didn’t really matter anymore.
Lucas had already promised he would be there.
That alone was enough.
She gave a small nod.
"Understood."
"If there’s nothing else..."
"This meeting is over."
"Everyone’s dismissed."
Without waiting for anyone to respond, Maya stood up.
The warm smile from moments ago disappeared instantly.
In the blink of an eye, the sweet girl who had been talking on the phone was gone.
Standing before everyone once again was the cold, elegant, untouchable Student Union President they all knew.
Without sparing anyone another glance, she turned around and walked straight out of the office.
Even after the door closed behind her...
Nobody spoke.
The room remained unusually quiet.
Everyone was still trying to process what they had just witnessed.
Meanwhile, back at Lucas’s villa, his wonderful fantasy about Lanai Island had been interrupted by Maya’s unexpected phone call.
Stretching lazily, he walked downstairs.
The moment he entered the living room, he found Mia, Daisy, and Debbie sitting together on the sofa, laughing happily as they chatted about live streaming, shopping, and future plans.
Hearing footsteps, the three girls instinctively looked up.
Lucas smiled mysteriously.
"I’ve got some good news."
Their curiosity was immediately piqued.
"What is it?"
Lucas didn’t keep them waiting.
"We’re going to Lanai Island."
He looked at each of them one by one before flashing a grin.
"And..."
"Every one of you is coming with me."
For a brief moment...
The entire living room fell completely silent.
