Investing In My Crippled Genius Wife: I Get 10,000x Returns
Chapter 160: The Two Troublemakers Inside The Space
Chapter 160: Chapter 160: The Two Troublemakers Inside The Space
As he spoke, Xavier reached into his spatial ring and produced several bottles of pills.
Golden Retriever stared at the collection in surprise.
"You’re planning to exchange pills for pills?"
He had conducted plenty of transactions in the Destiny Space, but this was an unusual arrangement.
Xavier couldn’t help feeling a little helpless.
His spatial ring was practically overflowing with pills. He had accumulated far more than he could reasonably use, so naturally, he preferred exchanging some of his surplus stock for the treasures he needed.
"I’m an alchemist. It’s only natural that I have plenty of pills."
He smiled confidently.
"There’s no need to worry about their quality. Every pill I’ve brought out is genuine and of the highest grade. You can have them examined if you want."
"Of course we’ll need to inspect them. This is a substantial transaction, after all. Neither of us can afford to be careless."
Golden Retriever nodded.
From his experience, he could already tell that the pills Xavier had produced were genuine. Nevertheless, a businessman couldn’t afford to skip the proper procedures, especially when dealing with such valuable goods.
"Come with me to the trading area."
He led the way while explaining the process.
"See those low jade platforms at the stalls? They’re special appraisal tables provided by the Destiny Space. Just place an item on one, and it’ll automatically display information about the object, including its name, grade, and properties."
He glanced around.
"Let’s find an unoccupied stall."
Victoria had already told Xavier about this feature, so he had no objections.
In fact, the arrangement suited both parties perfectly.
Golden Retriever wanted to make sure the pills weren’t counterfeit, while Xavier also needed confirmation that the items he was purchasing were genuine and hadn’t been obtained through some questionable means.
With the appraisal tables available, neither of them had to rely entirely on the other’s word.
Before long, they reached the nearest vacant stall.
Xavier examined the low jade platform with curiosity. He couldn’t figure out what material it was made from or how it possessed the ability to identify different items.
Still, the Destiny Space was an extraordinary place. It wasn’t surprising that it contained things beyond ordinary understanding.
According to Victoria, however, the trading area wasn’t even the most remarkable part of the realm.
That distinction belonged to the combat area.
Anyone who fought there could display their full strength without worrying about accidentally killing their opponent. The Destiny Space would assess the participants’ abilities and cultivation levels, and even if someone died during a match, they would be restored afterward.
It was an ideal environment for martial artists to test their strength and gain practical experience.
But Xavier could explore that place later. For now, he had business to complete.
"Take a look. There’s nothing wrong with my pills."
He placed the first bottle on the jade platform.
Almost immediately, several lines of information appeared beneath it, clearly identifying the pill’s name, grade, and medicinal properties.
The appraisal process was surprisingly straightforward. It reminded Xavier of the information displayed in his mind whenever the system issued an investment reward.
Golden Retriever leaned forward to examine the results.
"Everything checks out!"
He then began placing the items from his catalogue onto the platform.
One after another, their appraisal results appeared.
After confirming that every item was genuine, Xavier nodded with satisfaction.
"Looks good. It’s a pleasure doing business with you."
"Likewise! I hope we can work together again."
Golden Retriever’s smile was particularly sincere.
This transaction had been extremely profitable for him.
Every pill Xavier had offered was of top quality, and several of them were especially valuable.
The seventh-grade Spirit Control Pill was among the highlights, along with the sixth-grade Divine Descent Pills, Evergreen Pills, and Saint Healing Pills.
The exchange was arranged according to the value of the individual resources.
Some of the seventh-grade pills and a portion of the sixth-grade pills went toward purchasing the Great Enlightenment Pill and the Golden Body Jade Talisman.
The remaining pills were used to cover the cost of the fifth-tier demon core. Since a low-grade fifth-tier demon core was worth considerably less than a seventh-grade pill, exchanging it for sixth-grade resources made the most sense.
As for the Lesser Enlightenment Pills, their value was covered with fifth-grade pills.
Both sides walked away satisfied.
After putting the acquired treasures away, Xavier looked at Golden Retriever again.
"Do you have any other valuable items?"
"Not at the moment," the bearded man answered honestly. "You’ll have to check back next month. I should have a much better selection by then."
He naturally assumed that someone who could afford such a large transaction would have no difficulty obtaining another Invitation from Destiny.
"Alright. I’ll look forward to it."
Xavier nodded and began preparing to leave.
However, Golden Retriever suddenly slapped his forehead as though he had just remembered something important.
"Wait! I still haven’t asked your name!"
Xavier turned around.
"Major. Just call me MJ."
"MJ?"
Golden Retriever looked surprised.
" is that your actual name?"
He quickly offered a friendly warning.
"You should be more careful about revealing your identity. Even though the Destiny Space itself is completely safe, people sometimes manage to discover one another’s identities in the outside world. That can lead to robbery or even assassination."
He gestured toward the surrounding stalls.
"That’s why everyone here uses aliases. It’s better not to give anyone unnecessary information."
"Thanks for the advice, but a man shouldn’t have to hide his name."
Xavier patted his chest confidently.
"I’m Major. There’s no reason to pretend otherwise!"
Golden Retriever stared at him for a moment before giving him an enthusiastic thumbs-up.
"You’ve got some courage! That kind of confidence is beyond me!"
Xavier simply smiled without responding.
...
Once the transaction was complete, the two went their separate ways.
Golden Retriever had already sold off the valuable items in his inventory, so there was little reason for Xavier to continue browsing his catalogue.
Besides, he was already standing in the trading area. Looking around, he spotted roughly twenty other people operating their own stalls.
Since he had come all this way, he naturally wasn’t going to leave without checking what the others had to offer.
With that thought, Xavier approached the nearest stall and began working his way through the marketplace, one seller at a time.
"How much are you asking for the Lesser Enlightenment Pills? I’ll exchange them for a Saint Essence Pill. Does that work for you?"
"What about this high-grade spirit stone? You want a Saint Healing Pill for it? Are you trying to rob me? I’ll offer two fifth-grade pills at most. Take it or leave it... Deal!"
"You’re selling a Longevity Pill? Excellent. I’ll take it. Here’s your payment. And I’ll be taking this seventh-grade movement technique, Ghost Shadow Flash, as well!"
"A seventh-grade weapon in exchange for a Saint Purification Pill? Forget it. The price isn’t the problem. I simply have no use for another weapon. Wait, you have a fifth-tier demon core too? Why didn’t you mention that earlier? One Saint Purification Pill won’t cover both items. You’ll need to add something else."
"Sorry, we don’t have any eighth-grade pills. Besides, everything on your stall put together wouldn’t fetch the price of even one!"
Xavier moved from stall to stall, examining the goods and negotiating with each seller.
He wasn’t just browsing. He was buying.
Whenever he spotted something that suited his needs, he immediately struck a deal. The only resources he used to pay for everything were pills.
After the third or fourth transaction, the people around him began to notice just how wealthy this newcomer was. Some sellers even approached him voluntarily, hoping to interest him in their merchandise.
Unfortunately, Xavier wasn’t someone who would purchase anything simply because it was available.
He had his own priorities, and no matter how attractive the price seemed, he wouldn’t waste his resources on things he didn’t need.
Weapons were a good example.
He already had the Dragon-Slaying Sword. One weapon was enough for him, and there was no reason to collect more.
He also had to consider whether Mira and Maya needed anything before buying resources on their behalf.
Mira already possessed the Dragon Bone Sword, while Maya hadn’t settled on a particular martial art or even decided what kind of weapon suited her. Buying weapons for either of them without a clear purpose would be a waste.
By the time Xavier finished inspecting every stall in the trading area, more than thirty minutes had passed.
He was reasonably pleased with his harvest, although some things had fallen short of his expectations.
Most of his purchases consisted of pills and spirit stones. Both were essential cultivation resources that could be used to improve a martial artist’s strength.
They were also suitable investments for Mira and Maya. If the system triggered a hundredfold, thousandfold, or even ten-thousandfold return, the rewards could be astonishing.
However, he hadn’t found nearly as many interesting treasures outside those two categories.
He had managed to obtain four demon cores: two fourth-tier cores of mid-to-high grade and two low-grade fifth-tier cores.
As for martial arts, there was only one technique worth purchasing: the seventh-grade movement skill, Ghost Shadow Flash.
Xavier already possessed Phantom Step, but its grade was relatively low. As his cultivation continued to improve, the technique was gradually becoming inadequate for his needs.
Ghost Shadow Flash was an entirely different matter.
Once cultivated to the Minor Achievement Stage, it could multiply the user’s movement speed by six while greatly improving their agility. At the Perfect Stage, that multiplier could reach twelve times.
The technique allowed its practitioner to move so swiftly and unpredictably that opponents would struggle to follow their movements. That was how it earned its name.
More importantly, it was a movement technique devoted entirely to speed.
Xavier already possessed a supernatural speed ability. If he combined it with Ghost Shadow Flash after mastering the technique, he could hardly imagine just how frighteningly fast he would become.
After organizing his purchases, he counted everything he had acquired.
A total of 128 fifth-grade pills, nineteen sixth-grade pills, two seventh-grade pills, four spirit stones of middle grade or higher, and four demon cores.
"Not bad. This should just about be enough to make some investments in Mira and Maya."
Xavier nodded to himself.
Then he scratched his head, looking somewhat puzzled.
"Are the people in the Destiny Space really this poor? I’ve visited so many stalls and spent so much, yet I haven’t managed to acquire all that much."
He had so many resources at his disposal that finding things worth buying was becoming a challenge.
Having more money than he could spend was certainly a pleasant problem, but it was still a problem.
While Xavier was considering where he might find better treasures, he had no idea that his extravagant purchases had already caused quite a stir throughout the trading area.
Several sellers and buyers had been shocked by the amount of wealth he possessed.
And, as was bound to happen, his behaviour had attracted the attention of people with less than honest intentions.
In their eyes, Xavier was a walking treasure chest.
...
"Hey Mark, have you noticed that fellow calling himself MJ?"
"How could I not? He’s practically throwing money around. Everyone else comes here to trade, but that man looks like he’s clearing out an entire marketplace."
"And judging by how dissatisfied he still looks, he probably has plenty of resources left. Should we make a move?"
"Make a move how? We can’t kill him and take his belongings inside the Destiny Space. Unless you’ve got something valuable to offer him, what exactly do you intend to do?"
In a secluded corner of the trading area, two men were quietly discussing Xavier.
One was Mark, while the other was Connor.
They knew each other in the outside world and had worked together on numerous occasions. Their relationship was close enough that they could often understand one another without needing lengthy explanations.
The moment Connor brought up Xavier, Mark immediately understood what his companion was suggesting.
They were accustomed to using whatever means necessary to obtain what they wanted in the outside world, including betrayal and murder. Unfortunately, the rules of the Destiny Space made such methods impossible here.
