Investing In My Three Crippled Wives Get 10,000x Times Return
Chapter 175 | Strange Reaction…
Chapter 175: 175 | Strange Reaction...
Dexter raised an eyebrow.
He didn’t know Lyra had a diary.
He looked at the open page and unconsciously read the first few lines.
"My time is growing shorter and shorter. Can’t live as a cripple anymore, might as well let her in. It’s the same as death."
Dexter frowned.
The words were strange.
’Letting her in?’
What did that mean?
His curiosity was stirred, reaching its peak and he wanted to read more but his conscience pressed back just as hard.
It was someone else’s diary which contained detailed private thoughts most likely containing types of snacks she loved.
But reading them without her permission wouldn’t be nice and was a complete disregard of privacy. He slaps wouldn’t want someone prying into his thoughts either.
So he sighed and immediately closed the diary.
He lifted the edge of the new mattress, intending to slide the diary back underneath where it had fallen, when a chilling voice rang out behind him.
’What are you doing with my stuff?’
The voice was incredibly cold and icy. Dexter even felt his skin prickle with danger and his brows furrowed.
Dexter immediately turned around only to see Lyra standing in the doorway.
She was not wearing her AI glasses as her dark eyes locked onto Dexter like a predator looking at a prey.
Her expression was flat and indifferent, her eyes, cold and dearly.
Dexter’s was at first stunned by Lyra’s sudden change in behavior and he thought about various lies to tell.
But he ultimately decided to tell the truth.
"I swapped your bed for a better one," he said, holding up the diary. "I was changing the sheets and this fell out. I assume it’s yours."
Lyra’s face didn’t change.
Dexter frowned. Lyra at this moment looked extremely unfamiliar.
Lyra glanced at the diary in his hand, then at Dexter as she began walking slowly towards him.
"Tap." "Tap." "Tap."
Her feet barely making any noise on the ground as she stopped three feet away from him and tilted her head slightly, studying his face like a cat studying a mouse.
’Do you know the saying about the cat and curiosity?’ she asked.
Dexter’s eyes narrowed, something was wrong.
The voice sounded like Lyra, but it was different.
Dexter didn’t respond immediately. He stared at Lyra, searching her face for something.
His frown deepened.
"I assume this is your diary," he said carefully.
Lyra continued to look at his face.
’Hm. You look quite different from the first time.’
Dexter blinked. "What do you mean?"
Lyra’s eyes suddenly widened slightly as something similar to confusion flickered across her face before it vanished.
The with speed that surprised even Dexter, she snatched the diary from his hand.
’Don’t ever touch my stuff,’ she said with a smile and in a soft voice but that voice was even sharper and deadlier than Mira’s angriest voice.
Dexter remained silent, still feeling strange about Lyra’s sudden behavior.
But then again, he reasoned, if someone had touched his diary without permission, he would have been angry too.
It was an honest mistake on his part, but it was still a violation of her privacy. Her reaction, while unusually intense, was not unreasonable.
He nodded. "I won’t. I’m sorry. It was an honest mistake."
Lyra stared at him for a long, cold moment.
’Get out.’ she said.
Dexter’s frown deepened. The tone was harsher than anything Lyra had ever directed at him. Not even in the early days, when all three women had treated him with cold indifference, had Lyra used that tone.
He considered saying something but inhaled deeply and walked out of the room.
---
He stood in the hallway for a moment, processing what had just happened.
’She was angry. That’s fine. People get angry when their privacy is violated. I would be too.’
But the voice and the words with the way she looked at him.
"You look quite different from the first time."
What did that mean? Different from the first time how?
Dexter’s thoughts drifted to something the system had told him.
’Shadow Corruption.’
The system had warned that Lyra’s talent was beginning to corrupt her physical cells. If the corruption reached 100%, her body would collapse and transform into a permanent portal to the Shadow Realm.
He immediately opened his system interface and navigated to Lyra’s status panel.
[Name: Lyra Vance]
[Shadow Corruption Level: 2%]
Dexter exhaled slowly.
’So it’s not the corruption, the foodie Lyra is actually this scary when she’s angry.’
He shook his head and walked to the living room to continue repairing the window.
---
The rest of the morning passed in silence.
Dexter finished the window repair.
He massaged Mira while maintaining a mental focus so disciplined it would have impressed a monastery of celibate monks.
His face remained perfectly neutral throughout but Mira’s face and breathing did not which almost broke him.
At one point, Dexter even felt like the battle with the Four-Armed Goblins wasn’t even half as difficult as this.
After fleeing, he calmed himself down and made lunch which consisted of Celestial Spirit Bean porridge, seared vegetables and sliced Transcendent meat.
When he called out to them, Lyra actually came out last and when she ate, she only ate a single plate.
In the two weeks he had been cooking for these women, Lyra had never eaten less than two portions. Most days, she ate four. On particularly good days, she ate six.
And today, she ate one, leaving the remaining food on the table as she stood up, and walked back to the bedroom without a word.
Not just Dexter, Mira and Selene were both stunned to see Lyra leave without touching her food.
Mira glanced at Dexter and said expressionlessly. "What did you to her now?"
Dexter glared back at Mira. "Why do you think I did anything?"
Mira lips curled upwards. "Men."
She immediately turned her wheelchair to the living room and left.
Dexter smirked. ’Seems like she’s still mad about this morning.’
He ignored her and focused on Lyra.
If there was one thing in this world that could always cheer Lyra up, it was food.
The fact that she had turned her back on food meant she was not just annoyed, she was genuinely angry.
Dexter sat there, thinking for a long while.
He thought about going to her and apologizing again, since he would never intentionally violate her and the other girl’s trust.
But he thought even more about and maybe pushing her now, while she was in this state, would only make things worse.
’Let her simmer down for today.’
1
He would talk to her tomorrow. She might have calmed down by then. ’Moreover, I did nothing wrong either way.’
He collected the plates, washed the dishes, and spent the rest of the afternoon, practicing his punching and fighting techniques in the backyard.
[A/N: Valid crash out or nah? Or maybe something else is going on?]
[I promised Mass release since last week but one thing or the other kept popping up. I apologize for that. Just wanted to say that I haven’t forgotten and it will be possible this week at least."
