Chapter 220 | Rely On Me!
Chapter 220: 220 | Rely On Me!
Selene froze at the door and her hand remained on the frame with her body half-turned toward the hallway, one foot already across the threshold.
She froze.
Then, in a voice so soft voice, she murmured.
"We can wait until you’re in a good mood."
Sha felt that she might be a burden to Dexter and immediately wanted to leave.
This made Dexter’s chest tighten and he spoke immediately.
"No, I’m quite alright."
He paused as he continued in an honest tone.
"And even if I’m in a bad mood, I will always want to help you."
Selene’s body trembled slightly as though she heard singling she almost couldn’t believe.
Selene didn’t respond immediately and five seconds passed.
’Did I say too much?’
Just when Dexter was about to speak and assure her; Selene suddenly nodded her head.
"Okay," Then she turned back into the room with her head was lowered. Her silver hair fell forward, screening her face as she walked to the bed slowly.
She reached the edge of the bed and then under dexter’s gaze, she sat down.
Then after a while, she crossed her legs beneath her, placed her hands on her knees with palms upward and then closed her eyes.
She began cultivating.
Dexter watched her settle and the tension in her posture gradually eased. He immediately exploded with his heavenly flames, letting the intense heat wash through her entire body and even the entire room.
Suddenly, ao thing sparked in Dexter’s mind and he felt bolder.
"Come closer to the bed," he said. "So your back can rest against the headboard."
He leisurely patted the space directly beside him.
Selene’s body froze as her white eyes opened andwidened.
She blinked rapidly, obviously startled by Dexter’swords.
Through her Echolocation, she could perceive him him and the space he was pointing to. The space that was directly next to his body.
He was asking her to sit next to him.
Selene blinked again and her ears turned pink. Dexter wasn’t asking and was telling her as though it was a casual thing she could do.
She was about to shake her head when to Dexter’s shock, she nodded her head slowly as the blush crept from her ears down her neck,
She suddenly leaned and then placed her hand on the bed as she bent down like a cute cat and then cat-crawled forward.
Seeing the arc of her back made Dexter’s heart race like a position in an engine!
That move was so damn captivating!
Selene moved across the bed on all fours, her silver hair swinging beneath her, until she reached the space beside him and then she settled.
Her back found the headboards her knees crossed beneath her as her shoulder came to rest against his.
The contact was electric.
The warmth that had been reaching her in diluted waves across the bed now flowed directly into her body through the point of contact. The heat seeped through her sleeping gown, through her skin, through the damaged meridians beneath, and into the cold that lived in her bones.
And she exhaled.
They sat together. Shoulder to shoulder. Backs against the headboard. Cultivating in silence.
The mana flowed. The Star Nodes absorbed. The cold and the heat coexisted in the small bedroom, finding equilibrium in the narrow space between two bodies that were, in their own quiet way, learning to share space.
Minutes passed.
Then Selene spoke.
"You’re still thinking about her, aren’t you?"
Dexter froze.
The question came from nowhere. Or rather, it came from the particular nowhere that existed between two people sitting close enough to feel each other’s heartbeats. The space where observations formed without conscious intent and words escaped without permission.
"About who?" Dexter asked. His voice was carefully neutral.
"Aurelyx."
Dexter stared at her profile. Her silver hair. Her pale skin. Her closed eyes. The faint, barely visible smile on her lips.
"You aren’t very good at hiding things," Selene said.
Dexter sighed.
"You’re becoming quite perceptive," he said.
"I’ve always been perceptive." Selene’s lips curved slightly. The smile was small. Quiet. The smile of someone who had just delivered a compliment to themselves and was slightly amused by it. "After all, I can’t see. I have to rely on everything else."
Her head tilted toward him.
"Your heart rate changes when you’re thinking about something that bothers you. It becomes slightly irregular. Not enough for most people to notice. But I notice."
She paused.
"Your breathing changes too. It becomes more controlled. More deliberate. As though you’re trying to regulate your thoughts by regulating your lungs."
Another pause.
"And your body temperature fluctuates. When you’re calm, the heat from your bloodline is steady. Even. When you’re disturbed, it pulses. Like a heartbeat within a heartbeat."
Dexter looked at her.
She had been studying him. Not visually. Not through observation of facial expressions or body language. Through the tools that her blindness had forced her to develop. Sound. Vibration. Temperature. The invisible, constant data stream that her Echolocation and her enhanced senses provided.
She couldn’t see his face.
But she could read him better than anyone else in the house.
Dexter’s expression softened.
"Then rely on me," he said.
The words were simple. Three words. Subject, verb, object. The most basic sentence structure in the English language.
But they carried weight.
Not the weight of a promise. Not the weight of an obligation. The weight of an offering. A man opening a door and standing aside, making room for someone to enter if they chose to.
Selene’s smile disappeared.
She became completely still. Not the stillness of cultivation. The stillness of a person who had just heard something that required recalibration. Something that didn’t fit into the existing framework of her understanding and needed to be processed before she could respond.
For several seconds, neither of them spoke.
The room was quiet. The mana hummed. The Pure-Air Fragrance Artifact released its gentle, clean scent into the air. The moonlight, filtered through the window, cast pale silver patterns on the floor.
Then Selene lowered her head slightly.
"Okay," she said.
Her voice was so soft that Dexter almost didn’t hear it. The word existed on the threshold of audibility, barely disturbing the air, more felt than heard.
But he heard it.
He smiled.
"Good."
The room became quiet once again. The cultivation resumed. The mana flowed. The warmth spread.
