Investing in My Wife: But She's Already the Strongest!
Chapter 11: White
He hadn’t expected Miya to bring up a man’s naughty side.
Was she expecting him to say something like that? Something akin to flirting?
Evan might actually have been right. At this point, Enzo couldn’t help regretting the fact that he had been far too focused on training.
Why hadn’t he taken advantage of his popularity back then and played around with the girls who pursued him?
If he had, he would have gained some experience. With experience, everything would have been easier, even when dealing with a woman like Miya.
Of course, if he had done that, there was no guarantee that Miya would have chosen him in the end.
He smiled bitterly when he realized the contradiction.
"Maybe I’m not truly mature yet, but a lion becomes ferocious once it grows up," he said.
"Cough!"
Miya suddenly coughed, snapping Enzo out of the nonsense he had just said.
"Hahaha, I’ve always believed you weren’t really a stiff or boring man. Otherwise, how could so many girls at your university have pursued you?" she said.
Enzo became awkward, realizing that his words had sounded far too arrogant.
Despite being a quiet man, he was actually the type who could say outrageous things when he was forced to speak.
Sometimes they were nonsense or jokes. They could be amusing, but they could also feel extremely insulting to whoever heard them.
His occasional jokes were probably what made the girls think he was fun to be around.
Of course, they were also what earned him the hostility of several men who had become the targets of his casual teasing.
"Ehmm... That was just nonsense. I can’t even become a Spiritual Warrior, so how could I call myself a lion? Even if I reach the peak of mortal human strength, I’d still die if I fought an actual lion," he said.
Although Miya seemed amused, Enzo somehow still felt embarrassed.
"There’s always hope, so you must never lose your determination," Miya replied, slightly surprising Enzo.
"By the way, ask the tailor for white clothes, pants, and shoes later."
"White?"
"Yes, white."
"Of course. Any color is fine with me." Enzo didn’t really have a preference when it came to colors.
However, his hair was already white. If his entire outfit—including his pants and shoes—were also white, he felt he would become extremely conspicuous.
Perhaps this was simply Miya’s personal preference.
He didn’t ask why.
Miya smiled when she heard his agreement.
"There are still some things I need to take care of. See you later."
She ended the video call.
Enzo stared at his phone for quite a while after the call ended before finally walking over to the sofa and sitting down.
His mother returned not long afterward, looking excited.
"Enzo, did you see her? Alice lives right across from us," she said. "She’s actually very friendly and gentle, just like she is in her movies."
"Mom, why are you so excited? Isn’t she just a celebrity? Anyone who lives here is already a big shot," Enzo replied.
He had already expected his mother to bring up Alice.
But as far as he was concerned, it was better not to talk about her.
"Hey, what’s gotten into you? Don’t you watch her movies all the time?"
Enzo was speechless.
"Mom, the Stanley family’s butler will be coming with a tailor soon. Probably to take my measurements." He deliberately changed the subject.
"Really? Then we should get ready. Do we need to prepare some food?"
"Mom, that’s not necessary..." Enzo shook his head.
"Just call Dad and wait here. Oh, right. Evan needs to be told to come back too!"
Enzo didn’t want them to appear overly eager to please.
If they did, it would make him and his family look like mere subordinates.
They needed to maintain their dignity so that others wouldn’t look down on them.
Mr. Joe might appear friendly, but Enzo knew it was only because of Miya.
That old man could display a thousand different attitudes depending on the orders he received.
His situation wasn’t completely hopeless, and this marriage wasn’t merely about living a romantic life. It was also his path toward accumulating strength.
If he lost his dignity, then what use was strength?
