Investing in My Wife: But She's Already the Strongest!
Chapter 2: No Need to Hesitate
A screen appeared before his eyes, displaying a series of words that left him bewildered.
’What is this?’
’A System?’
’Like the ones in those online novels?’
’How is that possible?’
Before he could fully process one shock, another came.
"Enzo, this is the greatest opportunity you could ever dream of. Your progress has hit a dead end. You can’t expect this university to solve your problem. However, Lady Stanley might be able to help you overcome it," the Dean said excitedly.
"Don’t refuse her. Even though Mr. Joe said that Lady Stanley won’t force you, she might still take offense if you reject her. After all, it takes a great deal of resolve for a woman to propose to a man. If you turn her down, it could damage her reputation. She might even make you disappear without you ever knowing what happened. Even I could get into trouble just for knowing about this.
"Her reputation as a ruthless woman isn’t baseless. She has carried out several massacres before.
"But just so you know, she’s not some ugly woman. She’s incredibly beautiful. You won’t find anyone more beautiful than her at this university.
"She should still be pure, too. She’s never been rumored to date anyone. From what we know, she’s always been busy training and managing her clan."
Enzo couldn’t pay attention to the System that had appeared before his eyes because the Dean kept talking, and he didn’t dare ignore him.
It turned out that the Dean had his own concerns as well.
The realization almost made Enzo want to laugh.
"Dean, why do you think I would refuse?" Enzo replied.
He had already begun to calm down from the initial shock.
Hearing his response, the Dean’s eyes lit up.
"Good, good..."
"I need to tell my parents first."
"Of course. Hurry up and tell your parents."
The Dean even helped him to his feet, leaving Enzo unsure whether he should laugh or cry.
"Dean, you don’t need to walk me out. I can leave by myself."
He didn’t want to attract any attention, but the Dean seemed determined to see him off.
"All right..."
The Dean finally restrained his overenthusiastic behavior.
Something like this needed to be kept secret for the time being. If Enzo attracted too much attention, it could cause unnecessary problems.
Enzo left the Dean’s office and walked down the long corridor toward the university’s main entrance.
’Refuse?’
’Why would I refuse?’
His path to becoming a Spiritual Warrior had practically been cut off.
He knew that wasn’t going to change.
Now, two opportunities had appeared before him.
If he rejected the first one, the second would disappear as well.
There were countless students at this university. Enzo belonged to the oldest batch, while there were many younger students behind him.
As he passed a group of younger students, they immediately started talking about him.
After all, he had achieved the best physical results in the university yet failed to draw even a trace of Spiritual Energy into his body.
Enzo no longer cared.
He quickened his pace.
At the entrance of the building, Eva and her group were surprised to see him.
Eva immediately stepped in front of him.
"Enzo..."
"I’m busy!"
Enzo ignored her and continued walking, leaving the woman stunned.
She knew that Mr. Joe, Lady Stanley’s personal butler, had just met with the Dean.
That made her suspect that Enzo was the person he had come to see.
It made her curious, and all kinds of possibilities began running through her mind.
’Could it be that the Stanley Family has some great opportunity for Enzo?’
Being ignored once again, her face flushed with anger.
"Eva, why do you even care? I don’t think the Stanley Family would have any reason to recruit him. If that’s the case, why wouldn’t Liam be the one to tell him? Liam is Lady Stanley’s nephew," one of her friends said.
Meanwhile, Enzo had already boarded the subway. The station was located directly in front of the university.
City Z was an enormous city with a population of more than fifteen million.
It was densely populated, with countless districts that varied drastically in appearance.
One area was filled with magnificent skyscrapers, while another was packed with rundown buildings.
It was a city where the rich and poor lived side by side.
Enzo, naturally, lived in one of the poorer neighborhoods.
It was even a quiet slum.
There was a new development project planned for the area, and the company behind it was currently negotiating with the residents.
Some had already sold their land, while others had yet to receive an offer they considered acceptable.
The Muller Family belonged to the latter group.
The road in front of Enzo’s house wasn’t even paved with asphalt. The old pavement had long since fallen apart and been replaced by tightly packed gravel.
His house had three floors, but it was extremely small, measuring only around six meters in both length and width.
Its small size was precisely why the development company was reluctant to offer them a high price.
"Bro, you’re already home? Why so early?"
A seventeen-year-old boy greeted him.
He had the same white hair as Enzo and was doing physical training on the front porch.
"Hurry up and tell me. Was the training session really that short today?"
"Classes ended early today. Are Dad and Mom home?" Enzo asked.
The young man was Evan Muller, Enzo’s younger brother.
"Yeah. Dad came home for lunch, and Mom is cooking," Evan replied.
Without saying anything else, Enzo entered the house.
The first floor consisted of a single room, combining the living room and kitchen into one space.
He immediately saw his father sitting on the sofa.
The middle-aged man had black hair and a muscular build. He looked exhausted, his eyes closed as though he were somewhere between sleep and wakefulness.
Paul Muller.
His life had certainly been fortunate in one regard—he had a beautiful wife.
"Enzo, why are you home so early?"
A slender, white-haired middle-aged woman looked surprised when she saw him.
Lisa Jobs was a beautiful woman who had been highly sought after when she was young.
Yet, somehow, she had chosen Paul and ended up living a life of poverty with him.
"Mom, there’s something I need to tell you and Dad," Enzo said.
"Boy, what do you want to tell us?"
Paul’s half-closed eyes opened. He looked curious because Enzo had never spoken so seriously before.
Evan, who had just finished his training, couldn’t help but stop and listen as well.
With everyone staring at him, Enzo suddenly found himself unsure of how to explain everything.
’Will they believe me?’
’They’ll probably think I’ve gone crazy.’
His failure was naturally no secret to his family.
However, his parents and younger brother had deliberately chosen not to bring it up or ask him about it.
After thinking for a moment, Enzo decided to get straight to the point.
He called Mr. Joe, whose number he had already saved on the way home.
To his surprise, the Head Butler answered almost immediately.
"Mr. Joe, this is Enzo Muller," Enzo said.
"I know. Have you made your decision?"
His voice echoed through the phone, loud enough for all three members of the Muller Family to hear.
"Yes. I’ll accept. It’s just... I’m not sure how to tell my parents about this. I’m worried they’ll think I’ve gone insane," Enzo replied.
Paul and Lisa were stunned when they heard that.
"Hahaha..."
Mr. Joe’s laughter echoed through the phone.
"Since you’ve agreed, the Lady will naturally contact you herself. And according to her plans, if you accept, then a wedding ceremony between you and the Lady will be held this Sunday."
"Yes..."
Enzo was stunned by how quickly everything was moving.
’It’s Wednesday today. Tomorrow is Thursday, then Friday... and Sunday.’
’That means I’m getting married in just a few days.’
Mr. Joe ended the call, leaving Enzo with no choice but to shrug helplessly under the bewildered gazes of his parents and younger brother.
"Enzo, you’re getting married? Seriously? Who is the woman you’re marrying? How are you going to get married? Do you even have any money?"
Lisa bombarded him with questions.
Enzo could only scratch his head as he listened to the endless questions.
And apparently, Paul was just as confused.
He scratched his own head as well.
His brain seemed to be overheating from trying to figure out what exactly was happening.
