Chapter 2858: Chapter 2859: The Lonely Child

Perhaps people like me, who are pretentious and overly sentimental, are destined to never find happiness!

——Shu Jingchu.

Shu Jingchu never imagined that one day she would travel to a completely unknown world.

She had thought her life would just be like this.

Lost in a fantasy of self-indulgence, unable to extricate herself, yet constantly avoiding the realities around her.

As her roommate would say, you’re always submerged in your world unable to escape, but you never dare to open your eyes and look at this world, you’re just a selfish person.

Selfish person it is!

At least... it won’t be that sad.

Thus, Shu Jingchu quietly comforted herself, walking along the streets where the winter sun had yet to rise.

The stalls lined the street, displaying all sorts of things one could imagine or never imagine.

Shu Jingchu liked this feeling very much.

She felt these old objects held time that hadn’t dispersed.

When you carefully observe it, it’s as if you are having a conversation that transcends time and space with its owner.

The warmth of human life, most soothing to the mortal heart.

That’s why she became the only female university student at this Ghost Market.

But all of this vanished into nothing at the sight of that tiny, lonely fragment of mirror.

For some reason, Shu Jingchu always felt this mirror seemed to hold countless stories, waiting for her after enduring many trials and tribulations.

This compelled her to slowly crouch down and scrutinize the object.

"Young lady, do you want it?"

A gentle and mellow voice came through, under the hazy moonlight in the sky, Shu Jingchu saw the stall owner was an elegant young man.

His clothes were old but extraordinarily neat, and his eyes sparkled like the stars in the sky.

This gaze made Shu Jingchu momentarily dazed, then she slightly nodded.

"If you like it, pick it up and have a look! Perhaps it’s been waiting for you!" the young man said with a smile.

Driven by an inexplicable urge, Shu Jingchu picked up the fragment from the stall.

It felt cool to the touch, just like the moonlight at that moment.

And the tremor coming from the depths of her soul startled her.

"Boss, this thing... ."

The voice cut short, because when Shu Jingchu looked up, there was nothing in front of her anymore.

The young man was gone, the stall was gone too.

Only the fragment in her hand clearly told Shu Jingchu that it wasn’t an illusion.

After a moment of being stunned, Shu Jingchu stood up and returned to the dormitory.

The girl on the lower bunk was carefully dressing herself, preparing to meet her long-admired crush.

The girl opposite was seriously reading a book.

Everything seemed so ordinary, yet not quite ordinary.

At least that’s what Shu Jingchu thought at the moment before she fell asleep.

Then she suddenly awoke in utter confusion.

Where is this?

Shu Jingchu looked blankly forward at the mist so dense it seemed impenetrable.

It felt like she was just in the dormitory!

Why did she wake up in this strange place upon opening her eyes?

As if sensing her confusion, a voice emerged from within the mist.

"Next, I hope you go to a place, wait for someone, and then hand over the fragment in your hand to help him overcome his difficulties!"

"Who are you?"

The mist fell silent for a long time, long enough that Shu Jingchu thought the speaker had left.

"Who I am is not important, as long as you remember my words!"

"Wait a minute, why me? Where am I now?" Shu Jingchu shouted.

But this time, there was no further response from the mist.

Shu Jingchu felt a vague fear, then she woke up again.

"Whew, it was just a dream!" Shu Jingchu sighed in relief, but the next second she sensed something was wrong.

Because she wasn’t lying on the dormitory bed, but on a cold platform.

Below the platform, more than a dozen people dressed in red were kneeling toward her.

"Welcome the Holy Maiden back to her position!"

Holy Maiden?

Is this a TV drama being filmed?

Full of confusion, Shu Jingchu then felt a stabbing pain in her mind.

Various memories flooded in.

Palace of Light, Holy Maiden, Lord of Light... .

These jumbled things mixed together caused her a splitting headache.

But soon, the pain left her.

Because at that moment, beams of light, likened to waterfalls, descended upon her head.

The people kneeling below were incredibly excited, continuously kowtowing, frantically chanting something.

But none of this mattered to Shu Jingchu, for she saw a solitary figure within the vast white light.

For some reason, upon seeing this figure, Shu Jingchu felt a sudden ache in her heart.

It was like seeing a child curled in a corner, silently enduring without saying a word, no matter how wronged they felt.

She instinctively walked over.

"Little one, what’s wrong?"

"Dead! Dead again!" The figure mumbled to itself, back facing Shu Jingchu.

"What is dead again?" Shu Jingchu was somewhat stunned.

"The previous Holy Maiden died again, no one’s here to play with me, I feel so very sad!"

"What do you mean there’s no one to play with you? I can play with you!" Shu Jingchu said.

"Really?"

With a delighted sound, the figure turned to look at Shu Jingchu.

Shu Jingchu was startled, stepping back a couple of steps.

For what appeared before her was no child, but a monster.

No facial features, just a humanoid shape and nothing more.

"Are you afraid of me? Is this better?"

As the words were spoken, the monster wriggled, then appeared before her as a child of utmost innocence and cuteness.

Meanwhile, the memories in her mind finally integrated.

Shu Jingchu’s eyes widened, "You... are the Lord of Light?"

"Lord of Light?" The child tilted its head, "It seems that’s what they call me!"

Then the child became excited, "Since you can see me, and even communicate with me, from now on we’ll be good friends. I can give you power, and everything you want, provided you accompany me!"

Shu Jingchu pursed her lips.

She now understood the whole matter clearly.

She had indeed crossed over, and was sent directly by some being.

The condition was to wait for a person and hand the fragment she held to him.

And her identity in this world was exactly the Holy Maiden of the Palace of Light, while the enthusiastic child before her was the Lord of Light who was worshipped by many.

She really wanted to ask, why me?

But when she saw that expectant look in the child’s eyes opposite her, Shu Jingchu, driven by an inexplicable urge, nodded.

"Great, I have a friend again!" The child was very excited.

"Sister, what are you thinking about?" That sentence directly interrupted Shu Jingchu’s memories.

Shu Jingchu snapped back when she heard it, then smiled at the curious little child in front of her who was tilting its head.
