Chapter 801: Chapter 731: Resurrection of the Ancient Demon

Once the Artifact Spirit was Devoured, Tu Xiao’an found himself back in the magnificent hall. All the surrounding anomalies had vanished.

The floor was littered with Rank Four corpses, and a unique Crystal Coffin lay horizontally across the room.

In excellent spirits, Tu Xiao’an carefully examined the Ancient Demon’s corpse once more. This time, his mindset was entirely different. He had finally turned the tables and become the master.

He had to admit, the Ancient Demon must have been utterly terrifying when it was alive. Even lying dead in a coffin, the residual aura of its body was enough to make Tu Xiao’an tremble with fear. He felt that if the true Ancient Demon were alive, a single glance could kill him. It was just like how no matter how powerful the Artifact Spirit was, it couldn’t resist his System Power.

Small, lowly, nothing but dust.

Just how powerful beings from Ancient Times truly were was far beyond the imagination of modern humans. That was a true era of survival of the fittest, an age where the strong vied for supremacy.

Tu Xiao’an continued to stare at the Ancient Demon, feeling increasingly uneasy. Looking at it for too long seemed to affect his state of mind, making him feel lower than an ant.

Tearing his gaze away, Tu Xiao’an hatched a wicked idea. Every inch of the Ancient Demon’s corpse was probably a priceless treasure, not to mention the floor full of Rank Four corpses. If he fed them to his Battle Companions, every single one of them would likely experience a massive surge in strength. But... wouldn’t doing that be a little too immoral? It would be quite an ugly look for him.

Besides, this ruin was bound to hold plenty of other good things. He would just force the Artifact Spirit to cough them all up later.

"Artifact Spirit, come out," Tu Xiao’an demanded.

He then plopped down right on the corner of the Crystal Coffin and willed it with his mind.

WHOOSH.

The Artifact Spirit appeared. However, it didn’t take the form of the bewitching man, but rather a glowing sphere radiating a peculiar light. As a supernatural lifeform, it never possessed a true physical body to begin with; everything was merely an illusion.

Yet, the sphere soon morphed back into the bewitching man. Only this time, its features were entirely contorted in pure distress as it looked at Tu Xiao’an. Feeling wronged, infinitely wronged, the Artifact Spirit shed tears.

It knew it was doomed. A master-servant bond had been irrevocably branded into its soul. Now, just looking at the other party filled it with an innate sense of dread. It was an indescribable, inexplicable fear, but it was undeniably real.

"Artifact Spirit, how did my ultimate move taste?" Tu Xiao’an asked with a teasing smirk.

The Artifact Spirit remained silent, screaming a string of expletives internally, unsure if it should voice them out loud. Even now, it couldn’t comprehend what had just happened. It was like a waking nightmare—even though it had never been capable of dreaming.

Suddenly, the Artifact Spirit’s sluggish expression shifted to sheer terror, which then rapidly transformed into ecstatic joy. "Master! Master!" it shouted excitedly, calling out from the very bottom of its heart.

To Tu Xiao’an, the sound was music to his ears. This Artifact Spirit, which had treated any creature invading the ruin as a mere plaything, was now calling him "Master." And it was shouting it with such utter sincerity. He had to admit, the System’s methods remained as overwhelmingly powerful as ever. It dominated everything.

Tu Xiao’an felt absolutely fantastic. The Artifact Spirit had previously played him like a fiddle, but now, it was his turn to have the entity wrapped around his finger. Earlier, Luo Ziyun had even prepared herself for the two of them to die together. How could she have ever expected that Tu Xiao’an would subjugate this twisted Artifact Spirit so effortlessly, casually resolving every single crisis?

Tu Xiao’an was already looking forward to seeing Luo Ziyun’s adoring, starstruck gaze once she found out what happened. Gloating internally, he stared at the Artifact Spirit, reveling in his triumph.

Suddenly, Tu Xiao’an’s eyelid twitched. Something felt wrong.

The Crystal Coffin actually began to vibrate, and a dark shadow instantly cast over him. He observed the Artifact Spirit’s ecstatic expression and realized that its excitement didn’t seem directed at him. That cry of "Master" just now apparently wasn’t meant for him either. But other than him, who else could possibly make this Artifact Spirit willingly call them "Master"?

Wait...!

Tu Xiao’an gasped sharply as an instinctive sense of mortal danger washed over him.

He turned around stiffly, and what he saw stopped his heart. At some unknown point, the Ancient Demon’s corpse had actually sat up. Its five-meter-tall body radiated a mountain-like pressure, making it feel as if the entire sky were about to collapse. The two flexible antennae on its forehead twitched, reconnecting like antennas receiving a signal from the outside world.

Right then, the Ancient Demon opened its eyes, and its very first glance locked directly onto Tu Xiao’an. After all, he was sitting right on the edge of the Crystal Coffin.

One look—just a single look—was enough to make the surrounding space warp, enveloping Tu Xiao’an in a suffocating grip. That gaze contained an unparalleled, oppressive might.

Retreat!

A split second after making eye contact, Tu Xiao’an violently threw himself backward, retreating far away from the Crystal Coffin, his entire body drenched in cold sweat.

Holy crap, what in the world was going on?

The Ancient Demon had returned from the dead, resurrecting right under his nose. His eyes weren’t playing tricks on him; it had genuinely come back to life. Now Tu Xiao’an also had a string of curses he was desperately holding back.

How was this even possible? An Ancient God that had been dead for countless years was inexplicably alive again?

Was it because he had subjugated its Artifact Spirit, bringing shame upon it, which literally angered it back to life? Or had the Artifact Spirit simply been deceiving him from the very beginning? Perhaps the Ancient Demon had never truly died at all.

"Master! Master! This is wonderful! You’ve finally revived! It’s me, your infinitely loyal servant, Xiaoyang!"

In stark contrast to Tu Xiao’an’s horrified expression, the Artifact Spirit was acting like it had just won the lottery, cheering as joyfully as a child. It clearly hadn’t fully processed the fact that its master was no longer the Ancient Demon, but Tu Xiao’an himself.

Tu Xiao’an was extremely displeased. With a mere thought, the Artifact Spirit’s expression changed drastically, and it was forced to throw itself to its knees before him, trembling in sheer terror. It had absolutely no control over its own body.

"Tell me, what is going on here? You better listen to me carefully, you bastard. I am your master now! Believe it or not, I can turn you to ash with a single thought!" Tu Xiao’an shouted. He was angry—furious, even.

He had already exhausted his ultimate trump card. And after doing so, the Ancient Demon had come back to life? What possible method did he have left to deal with a resurrected Ancient Demon? His only option now was probably to wait for death.

"I... I... I don’t know either!" the Artifact Spirit stammered, staring blankly at Tu Xiao’an. The absolute suppression on its soul left it in agonizing pain.

"How could you possibly not know?! Tell me!" Tu Xiao’an practically roared.

The Ancient Demon, having sat up and opened its eyes, still seemed completely disoriented. It had likely slumbered for far too long, and upon waking, it wore a thoroughly bewildered expression, as if wondering, "Where am I? What am I doing? What is this place?"

This at least gave Tu Xiao’an a brief window to catch his breath.

The Artifact Spirit looked at the Ancient Demon sitting in the Crystal Coffin, then back at Tu Xiao’an. Had it become a traitorous servant with three masters? It suddenly found itself with two masters.

"Back when my old master died, he left behind a single remark," the Artifact Spirit said. "He said that he might one day resurrect, but the odds were as minuscule as one in ten million."

One in ten million?

Tu Xiao’an was utterly dumbfounded. He had actually triggered a probability that absurdly low? Did he have astronomical luck, or was he just spectacularly cursed?

GROAN...!

A deep groan echoed from the Crystal Coffin, causing Tu Xiao’an’s face to drain of color.

Had the Ancient Demon finally regained its senses?
